Sorry but I'm not gonna do that, you would end up counting a dive that earns the team a free kick as an assist, phuck that. And when you take a free kick, it's you against the keeper, nobody's helping you.

Assist: direct pass which gives a teammate a clear scoring opportunity.

That will be the criteria.

just asking is not the free kick a sure scoring opurunity??? If there wasnt a free kick you could not score so i am disagreeing about that.

I mean own goal or not, Figo should get credit for that assist V Ascoli.

Against Milan Maicon gave the ball to Stankovic to shoot for that 2nd goal, maybe it wasnt much but hey - its still an assist.

There are a lot of different criterias on how do you count an assist. It's all shades of grey and there is no black & white.

I think we should just respect Frisko's decision. We should still make suggestions though but it is too far to be insulting him of "not ahve[ing] a clue what football is" just because our criteria of "assist" differs with his.

On a personal note, I consider Maicon to be Stankovic's assist(er) but I don't consider Figo to be the assist(er) of our second goal against Ascoli.

But that's the whole point - Frisko doesn't count own goals as having had assists. Including such information is going to break his arbitrary and personal definition of what constitutes an assist; in effect, he would be establishing his list based on your criterion, and not his own.

Well, I agree with Frisko, that own goals definitely doesn't have assists. But that Stankovic's goal in derby, in my opinion Maicon should get an assist for that. Stankovic got the ball in a situation where he could make that shot. I think Maicon should get the credit for passing the ball at the right moment to the right place. When those circumstances were valid, Stankovic was able to make the shot and score a goal.

Vs. Crespo's goal against Roma, when Zanetti passed the ball to him. There Crespo made that goal all by himself enterin the area and dribbling Mexes. But at the derby, Maicon made a right-timed pass to Stankovic who just turned and shot a goal. The pass happened in a situation where it mattered. Zanetti's pass to Crespo wasn't so decisive.

I said when I started this thread that we should debate when there are doubts about assists and such. I'm happy to make changes if there are valid reasons.

Maicon: I don't think that was an assist as Dejan just found inspiration somewhere and went for an amazing strike. I don't think Maicon's pass put him in a position of particular freedom. Since most of you seem to think the opposite though, I might change that, let's see if others intervene.

Figo: I thought about that, and to me it's simple: bad luck Luis. If the ball got to Crespo, that would have been an assist. But an own goal is an own goal, and hey, we've seen Vieri miss in the past from Crespo's range (sorry, couldn't help that one). I don't think Figo should get the assist, too bad the defender got there first.

I think there should be clear rule that don't create any dobts (like this in Maicon assist) I mean every player that last touched the ball before scorer should get the assist, and that's it. There should be no expections.
