Mancini has done an incredible job, reinventing himself and Italy. These young Azzurri have been brilliant both in defence and attack, both on the ball and off the ball. Its been like this for a while, only the English commentators are surprised by the way Italy are playing.

Loving it so far. Forza Azzurri!

Just had a friend who's a United fan asking about Locatelli and how much he'd cost  Amazing what a good performance at an international tournament will do for a player.

Hahaha yeah PL fanboys are running amok now that they see Italy being tipped as a contender with players from Sassuolo, Lazio and Atalanta having a part

Not to take anything away from Italy, but we suck so bad. Pretty sure Turkey, who have been abysmal themselves, will thrash us as well.

Fantastic to watch the Azzurri like this. You'd almost dare to think they could be the ones to screw France. I have money on Italy this year and it would be even more exciting to see them win it with great performances like these. Mancini really is doing a good job... :datass:

Switzerland is giving me France 2010 vibes in terms of the downfall of a nation that used to perform. Quite suprised by it tbh. What's going on with Shaquiri especially?

Switzerland used to perform?

On another note, Italy last won a major tournament with Palermo guys having a role (Grosso, Toni, Zaccardo). Maybe this time it's Sassuolo's time to get written in history books!

Italy is playing more ''Dutch'' than Holland itself. I really enjoy watching Italy. On the dutch TV the analysts are going wild and are lyrical about Spinnazola. The call him the best LB of the world etc.

Got out of their group in the last 3 major tournaments EUROS 2016 and the WC in 2014 and 2018. Challenged Argentina and only lost in overtime, drew Brazil, drew France in '16.
You knew they would be a tough opponent to play. Yesterday on the other hand they were not able to compete at all.
This is what suprises me.

They are usually a tough side, yes, but that's about it.
Don't think this changed much, people are underestimating Italy's performance in this Euro I think.

But I believe Wales will pose a bigger threat, Italy will probably rotate and we could even see a defensive back 3 starting just to go for a 0-0.

True. Italy have been playing like this for many years. Those fans who are surprised are EPL fanboys who still believe in the ancient stigma spread by the English media some 60 years ago that the Italians play with 11 players defending in the penalty box. No surprise really as most EPL fanboys have this 'if it isn't the EPL, then it's not football'.

What the current generation of non-PL fans doesn't grasp is that PL fanboys existed and were the same back in the early 90s.

In the early 90s....

Even if you watch a mid 2000s game between Arsenal and Chelsea who were the most technical sides at the PLs peak until then, all you'd see was hoof ball... Meanwhile, Serie A and La Liga featured Ballon D'Or and CL winners but it was considered "not as entertaining".

Even to this day, other than a select few clubs, PL playing style is still the same headless chicken pinball-tennis shootout.

Regardless, premier league is still more entertaining than serie a tbh. The fact that premier league is most followed shows that. Out of all the top leagues, serie a is the most boring tbh. You still get to see 30-ish year oldies as the best players of teams in serie a, the league is too tactical making it more boring and heavy reliance on orthodox, defensive football. Win at all cost mentality is the most prevalent in serie a.
If you're a watching a serie a match, then a non-football fan sees it, he will ask you whether this was football from the 20th century, I have encountered this a lot with people around me. I don't know for you guys

Premier league is not more popular because it's seen as more entertaining. It's because of superior TV rights and a near global understanding of the English language.
