Just saw on tv that the winner of group G will have to travel like 5 times as much as the 2nd placed team, to many different cities in Russia while the 2nd team will only have to travel once to one other city in the entire remainder of the tournament. That's a pretty big factor as well, another reason to not want to win.

What FIFA should have done is if 2 teams are fighting for 1 spot, and other teams are unaffected, it should go to penalties. Much better than FIFA fair play.

Belgium did the right thing. At first sight it does look like the other bracket is stacked but in reality, it doesn't make that much of a difference. I would give a prolonged explanation but i doubt it matters. Basically, they're both guarenteed to play two top teams in the semi final and final if they get there. The only difference is Belgium have an easy round of 16 game and England will have an easy quarter final game only if they get past a very strong Colombia side that only lost the opening fixture because they had to play with 10 men the entire game.
