OK i will do now some kind of a report of the 1st week of training under Mazzari , from what i've seen on inter channel. It will probably be a long post :work:
Staff:
This is the first thing u notice when u see a training. Huge staff constantly involved in every aspect of training. There are at least 2 people following every exercise. U can see mazzari only at the start of the training when he gives the general overview of what is going to happen and then all divide into groups and on the respective coaches while mazzari keeps an eye on everything.
This might look like smth common but actually it isn't from what i've seen in the past. With this staff u have the feeling that everything is under control.
Physical Training:
Well this is all people talk about so ofc i don't have to stress the importance given in this aspect.
Every training , both in the morning and the afternoon , start with a running and end of the running. What is important to notice is not the type of exercises (well u can't invent anything new in it) but the intensity of exercises.
I hardly notice any break. There isn't the amount of different exercises seen under Mou , usually they are always the same , but there is a lot of intensity in them. They go from fitness to tactical and then back to fitness without sitting for any moment.
U don't notice players laughing or joking around almost at all ( probably cassano missing is a reason for that
) they all look concentrated.
Tactical Training
Not much to say on this. Inter channel doesn't transmit the parts of tactical trainings . They say that the staff doesn't allow to transmit the tactical work with different groups. So i can't see the movement trainings or the set pieces.
I've seen some of the training matches though. They always do a training match in the middle of the training program both in the morning and the afternoon. Both the teams are lined up with a 3-5-1-1 or smth similiar depending on whether are playing 10vs10 , 11vs11 , 12vs12 etc.
None of the matches has been made on full pitch. Usually it's only half of the field or 3/4 like today so it's not much to see in terms of quality.
The formations have had almost no change at all from day to day except of injurie cases or special training programs.
Formation A:
Carrizo/Castellazi
Ranochia Andreolli Chivu
Longo Kuzmanovic Cambiasso Knudsen Obi/Beloni
Alvarez
Belfodil/Longo
Formation B:
Handanovic
Campagnaro Samuel Juan Jesus
Mbaye Guarin Olsen Kovacic Nagatomo
Palacio
Icardi
Individual/Team Performances
Well since we have played only with 1 of the needed 4 wingers we couldn't have a nice flow of the game so not much to say about the way the team plays. Also the reduced field size doesn't help in understanding the movements.
On the other hand if some players can make a good figure of themselves in these conditions is worth mentioning i think. Campagnaro(Very good especially in anticipations and going forward) , Kuzmanovic , Icardi have been very good so far. Icardi has a great off ball movement. Probably playing against Andreolli (who sucks btw) helps in getting unmarked but i have a good feeling about him.
Other Notes:
1.Nagatomo , Mbaye , Longo , Obi suck badly at crossing. Naga for example is in a very good shape physically , the movement also is very good leading him close to the area but the end product is really poor.
2.The overall quality of the players is average. U can notice this in the pressing exercises where those who have to keep the ball rarely go more then 3-4 passes before losing it.
3.The famous Hamsik role is very far from being covered (as its expected to be after only 1 week) . So far Kovacic and Kuzmanovic who replaced him today, play like Sneijder. They are in advanced position when the attack starts and then they track back to get the ball and deliver it to the strikers. There is 0 vertical/off ball movement that can lead the player of this position to the area. Smth that Alvarez does very well on the other formation though.
Today's match:
Since some of u were asking in today match we played in 3/4 of the field.
Formation A:
Carrizo
Andreoli Ranochia Juan
Jonathan Olsen Cambiasso Nagatamo
Palacio
Icardi
Formation B:
Handanovic
Campagnaro Samuel Donkor
Longo Guarin Kuzmanovic Mbaye
Alvarez
Belfodil
It was a 10vs10 and for the 1st time Belfodil played good and was noticed. He played like an advanced forward , moving outside of the box and creating space for Alvarez to enter the area. (smth like Cavani-Hamsik)
On the other side though Icardi , not only today but always plays as a poacher. He rarely goes out of the area and is always there harrasing the defender and fighting for rebound balls , like the 2 goals he scored today that were both tap-ins but he was in the right position (it needs to be mentioned though , that he plays always in the same team as guarin so he has a lot of rebound balls in his area
).
That's all for this week
