If they had scored from that corner it would have been Mariga's fault. He was nowhere near Jovetic

I think you're wrong on this one. If I remember correctly Mariga was Marking the player that was Lurking just outside the area, while Jovetic managed to lose his marker, and I think it was Santon (or some other player wearing green boots).

But anyway it doesn't really matter. The importand thing is that we won!

Sneijder was great tonight, I haven't seen that kind of passing at Inter since as far as I can remember. He's a real force up front. On the other hand we can see Muntari and Motta in completely different light: they can't pass even the simples of passes right! Muntari had one of his better games today (and that's saying much) but he still manages to lose A LOT of balls in critical situations.
Also I am worried about Maicon. He seems completely absent in defense sometimes, staying up to argue with the linesman while Viola run their counter attack. Also, when Vargas had that chance in the second half, he came from the left and Maicon was nowhere to be found! Zanetti tried to stop him instead but was late - fortunately it ended well for us

We could have done better. Tonights performance wasn't particulary impressive, but we got the job done. I think this will be enough to go past Viola, as I just can't see us losing against them, not with 2 goals, and I'm sure we will score one if we must. This result will keep us aware and alow us to play at counter attacks what is just good for us.

I'm pleased with Santon's performance, as I think he did very well. I would like to mention also Sneijder, who will be sorely missed in the next 2 games, as he was once again our only creator and the main ball player.

It's a pity we didn't see more of Mariga, but he will have plenty of time. I saw also that Ljajic made a debut, and I can tell you that he is talented lad, he is playmaker and almost went to Man Utd, but he is very, very far from a finished product.

I only saw the last 20 mins because my internet connection decided to shit itself a few hrs before the game started. Matrix looked pretty solid from what I saw. Pity that Mariga didn't get more time.

i was wondering if we had a Midfield as strong as our defence line last night.Matrix is our 4th or 5th choice as a CB choice and still is world class.and mariga is one big guy.he can become a nightmare for other players if he trains and develop his skills

COPPA ITALIA: Semi-final first leg. Return is April 14th
Decided as usual by Milito. Beat Fiorentina (1-0).
Mourinho - Balotelli: "He didn't do his duty".

Inter: Goal and Fight
Balotelli inspired the 1-0 and then angered Mourinho.
The Nerazzurri are playing with confident, while Fiorentina are prudent. The return leg is open.

Milan - Inter can definitely complain about the size of victory against Fiorentina. The team of Mou would love to score more to reassure the return in April. But the 1-0 is not as skimpy as it seems nor does it contradict the recent success against AC Milan and Juventus. Indeed, it was extended. Even yesterday they felt a new serenity, a sign of security and personality uprights. The Nerazzurri had taken control of the game, driving safely with the elbow out the window, certainly that their superiority would transformed into goals. In this scenario of serenity we see the new episode of problematic coexistence between Balotelli and Mourinho. In the middle of second half, Mario lost his contact lens in the attack. The Special One waves his arms, inviting him to come back to defense where the team is suffering. Balotelli was replaced shortly after and this time he waves his arms as he was leaving. Even though that Mou saw him assisting Milito for the goal, also to Maicon and Pandev, Pasqual had to save the goal on the line.

  • The special fan: Eto'o returned to Coppa Italia with a troubled foot, attended Inter - Fiorentina a little bit on the bench and a little bit in the tunnel. And applauded.

  • Anger of Mou: On a corner kick for Fiorentina, Mourinho talks to Balotelli because he was distracted and not defending. The player responded and said that he was hurt.

  • The gloves of Balotelli: And a few minutes later, at the 23rd minute in the second half when Mou replaces him. Balotelli throws the gloves down and leave the field muttering. The coach ignores him.

  • The debut of Mariga: At the 46th minute in the second half, Mariga, the latest coup of the market in January, made his debut in the Nerazzurri shirt and Mou gives him the first indications.
Inter forward Seeing the sign of caution for Fiorentina, Mourinho then goes to find the 2-0. Muntari left for the dressing room for Pandev, together to form the 4-2-3-1. It is also thanks to these messages of courage that Inter are growing in esteem and personality. 12th minute in the second half, Frey had to perform a miracle to stop Pandev's shot. Infected by the spriiet of the collegue, at last, Prandelli then brings in Jovetic to be like Inter tactically: 4-2-3-1, he continued with Marchionni and ended with Ljajic. The lift offensively by the Viola can make them proud, it also facilitated the replacement of Balotelli. Fiorentina take home a defeat that leaves minimal expectations.

I actually thought this was his worst performance all year. I guess that shows you how good he is...

I don't know, I thought he did well - he makes those passes with such ease and certainty. I was impressed with that on several occasions last night.

The last match in which they scored against us was our 3-1 victory @ Giuseppe Meazza in 06/07. I think Toni scored for them; Adri, Deki & Ibra for us.

But you're right, we have always, for some reason beat Fiorentina comfortably at the Meazza, though the same can't be said about playing in their stadium.

I'm not happy with this result. Now we have to go to Firenze to play for real. With 2-0 it would have been way much harder match for Viola. Too bad we couldn't score in the end.
Cafe, 1-0 is a very good first leg home-tie result. I don't understand how you can be unhappy about it. :) A 2-0 woulda put one of our foot in the final but a 1-0 is still very good.

You don't understand? It's one extra match in April. Exactly between Viola away and Juventus. I'd prefer to avoid all the useless matches. Coppa Italia is not important, everyone knows it. It just isn't. Let alone if we somehow manage to go through in CL, there will be a rush hour with matches in April.

With Inter I would worry more if we had a 2 goal lead.

1:0 win will keep the guys on their toes in the rematch. That sounds good to me.

That is exactly the reason I don't like this result. We have to really play in that match. With 2-0 we could have just surfed it through.

Javier Zanetti,
We did far too many mistakes against Fiorentina, and our performence was not convincing. We could have scored a couple of more goals if we had taken the chances. Let's just now wait and see what will happen in the return leg come April.
