Okay, this is a very good point. Maybe by having a diamond midfield, they can push to the wings with no problems. Since the AM ( I hope it's Ballack) will push in and be like a CF in a 4-3-3, Ballack is perfect for that.

What I notice now is that when either of them drift, he just waits and hangs to the ball since nobody pushes forward. I saw many potentinal passes and crosses go wasted because there was nobody in the middle.

I guess it will all depend on how the management chooses to go next year.

We didn't win coz our strikers need to improve in finishing...., also our midfield didn't score as usual... We also didn't play our usual game as Veron was out of the game... Our game is never the same without Veron.

Looking at the current situation, it's no need for an overhaul... but this is more tricky..

1. Strikers has to improve, this may mean Adriano stop being a support striker, and deploy Chino or somebody with the characteristic to play alongside him. Or we can sign a box striker, this is funny since we will have only Chino as natural second striker. Another scenario is to deploy cesar to play in that role.

2. We learn to play more often without Veron, otherwise our best formation will require Veron in it. When we play smaller teams we can do this. But this was hard since we played strong opponents in a row..

3. Somebody should stop Nedved's from playing...

Otherwise it is a bleak future without scudettos.

We must send Oba on loan to some other club and when he learns how to shoot and pass and run at the defender (when defender is in front of him, and not vice-versa) ... we can have a re-think bout this partnership.

Regardless of the debate whether Veron is useful or not, one thing is certain: he doesn't run with the ball, he's only spraying passes (excellent passes if he's in form) around the pitch mostly from the position he gets the ball! Just watch, he gets the ball, takes 2 steps and passes!
He doesn't move closer to the defensive line, laying pressure on them, and his style is pretty useless against well organised defenses which close back in a hurry, IF there is no AM or Forward in between him and the strikers.

everyone has their way of thinking and mine is that oba is fenomeno and its silly to loan him
its mancini job to get into players head, to find out what they need to play their best, and from the first day I knew mancini isnt a man for that job
thats the difference between good coach and world class coach

capello cant learn ibra and nedved how o drible, or how to cross and pass, but he is smart and can see and teach players how to play together like a team

That's precisely what I meant! I now logged in to the forum to write what I meant with that sentence, didn't have time to do it in the morning.Now I don't have to, you did it already. Good insight, and right conclusions Zamat!

In my humble opinion this is the single most important thing Mancini has to realize. It's not that much midfielders fault, they can only play to their own capabilities. Veron as a true attacking midifielder is just as realistic idea as Martins as our target man. Seba does well in his role, but it just isn't enough; look at Milan who also plays with deep playmaker, they have a link between midifield and attack in Kaká. Next year with offensively capable fullbacks diamond would be a very good idea. Ballack would fill the hole nicely.

The job to carry the ball further up-front is not done by Veron but by Stankovic, Figo and to a certain extent, Cambiasso.

But yeah, when it got to Figo & Stankovic, it's too wide and if the opposition's flank players closed them down, we wouldn't get the 1-striker-on-1-defender advantage that Mancini is always looking for. If we get a diamond, the fullbacks will play an extremely crucial part of the team and currently, I don't trust our left flank completely so for the moment, and since we're in the midst of a season, sticking with Mancini's flat 4-4-2 seems to be the best idea.
