I am guessing you never watched him at Real Madrid? If you did, then you wouldn't have made this comment...

If you want a more recent example, go watch almost every single Italian Euro Qualifier. He was out wide on the 4-3-3 almost every match.

Yeah Cassano's most effective when he starts wide and cuts inside, being pacy isn't the only requisite for a wide forward. He's not the kind of player to stay on the wing though, he's perfect in our. 4321.

Lol? Is this serious? My goodness. Cassano never played as a winger in Real Madrid. He played his usual, second striker Role. And Cassano played as a Winger at the Euros Q's? No he didn't. Cassano played his second striker role again. He drifts to the wings as it draws players out of position and makes him and his striking partner harder to mark. And he loves to do this, and does it frequently. He also drops to the midfield, and he doesn't focus on one wing, he changes sides as he sees fit, as his role is quite free. Do you think when Cambiasso comes into the box hes playing a centre forward? Intelligent players like Cassano know that occupying various offensive positions on the field causes a multitude of problems for the opposition. Thats why Cuchu can be so beneficial to an attack when people here seem to think hes playing bad or useless. As he like Cassano, often diverts opponents away from their designated positions. That does not make a player who temporarily moves to that position a winger/center forward etc etc. You put Cassano out on the wing, and tell him to stay there like say Valencia or Robben. Well hes gonna fail hard, as he doesn't have the characteristics to play in that role. But he has the characteristics to play his role, very intelligently, and not limit himself to just behind the striker. Theres a big difference between going wide, and operating as a winger.

Vito, dude...i respect you and you are 99% times right, but this time your wrong. Italy started the qualifiers with Pepe an Cassano as wingers and in third game, after drawing with Northern Ireland they changed it to 4-3-1-2 with Cassano as SS and they never looked back. (in those two games, they had hard time beating Estonia. and beat Faroe Islands comfortably (who suck big time)). And Italy was still behind against Estonia, until they changed to 4-3-1-2 in around ~60 minutes.

Theres a big difference between going wide, and operating as a winger.

Yet people think this is the definition of a winger, using that logic one can as well say that Snejder, who ofter likes to start from left side of attacking midfield, is a winger.

And not because he drifts to the wings means he can play as a winger. Milito in countless times goes there ever since he has been deprived of Eto'o, that doesn't mean I would put him there every single match. It's just movement of the player. It's the reason I hated having Zarate because I knew he would be used purely as a winger, when in fact the reason Zarate gained a reputation was because when he played in his first season with Lazio he was used a second striker, and had the freedom of movement.... now he did have a favourite move to drift to the sides of the box cut with his right foot to the outside and shoot in the far corner, but that does not make him a winger.

Exactly. If those two smart-asses CCCP and Neon would actually have played football in their life and not throw some shit that i haven't seen Cassano play, they would know that every attack minded player who is right footed prefers to play on the left side of the pitch and vice versa. But whatever they can play as wingers in my ignore list for now on. How hard is it to understand that if you want maximum out of Cassano, then he should be played as SS. :palm:

When Cassano played in Capello's 4-2-3-1, he was on the wing multiple times. He definitely played SS more than on the wing, but do not sit here and say he did not play on the wing at all, because that is a lie. I remember a handful of games where it was him and Beckham on the wings.

Vito, dude...i respect you and you are 99% times right, but this time your wrong. So then, how am I wrong? You asked for 3 matches where he played as a winger and the first 3 matches of the Euro Qualifiers were Italy in a 4-3-3 with Cassano on the wings. I remembered them using 4-3-3 a bit more, so I was wrong in saying "almost every match".

You two are going on and on like he has never EVER played on the wings and that is just a lie...100% BS lol
