So do we. Roma are just that much better at exposing ours than we are at getting at theirs.

Yeah but it's not like they beat us everytime. Last year we beat them in 3 out of five matches. In one we got outplayed, two we outplayed(outmuscled) them and two were even.

Milan - prolly have the most complete midfield in the world and as long as they have someone to bury their chances and a half fit Nesta they will do fine.

Maybe but if Ronaldo and Kaka will have off nights or get injured they will be in serious shit. But I think they will be our main competitor for the title. And what you don't think we will do fine? Come on, have some faith. We will dominate Serie A. I'm sure of it.

Jube - I dont care for.

Roma- What good does a side weak on counters do us if we are still too slow to expose that danger? We had some decent counters last night but even when it got to the strikers only once was Stan to be found to provide proper support.

IMO we're not. I don't see that at all. I think we are one of the best counter attacking teams in Italy. We were slow yesterday but generally we have excellent counters. Just look at both Viola matches last season, the first Milano derby, Against Ascoli, against Palermo etc. Many times the teams didn't know what hit them.

Yesterday we had two counterattacks. Very little but what do you expect when the midfield are just walking about.

Ibra took down a high ball and flicked it to Stankovic who sent a long ball towards Suazo on the left side of the pitch. Suazo slipped unfortunately and nothing came out of it. The other chance was Ibra who sent a fine through pass to Figo who had made the run.

IMO our flaw isn't in our counter attacks but in our inabilty to break open defences when we hold possesion. We don't really have anyone to give that killer pass. Ibra usually does it but when he's off shits not working. Recoba could do it easily if he'd only stay healthy. Figo's not bad and neither is Stankovic it's just that none of them specialize on it.

I agree w/ you Adam but last night we couldnt even hold onto possession. Not to mention the fact that 2 counters against a team that is supposedly weak on the counter is pathetic.

It worries me that at this time last season we were much more full of fire to come back against Roma, yet this year you could have ended the match right after the PK. Blame it on the game being a week earlier than it was last season but I still dont see one week making that much of a difference.

Well.. about Milan. They may be screwed if Kaka does have a off-night, but the problem is that he doesn't, even if the rest of the team is.

Though I continue to shout two points -

1) Mancini needs to put this team playing vs. Roma.
2) We do lack a midfielder who can open up the game, do tricks, go on fantastic runs, make the killer passes etc. Ibra can do it ofcourse, but he is no midfielder, we need someone who can deliver him the ball and do the tricks with him. Someone that can be like Figo at his best or slightly better than in his first season with us atleast. Quaresma was fabulous in Bwin league opener in Portugal. Stankovic is a great simple player, but we need someone with great technical abilities aswell (we could have a reason to sell Vieira for his outbursts and still could keep JZ in game and play Chivu as left-back if we do that).

Suazo/Crespo - Ibrahimovic
Quaresma
Stankovic
Cambiasso - JZ
Chivu - Materazzi - Samuel/Burdisso/Cordoba - Maicon
JC

I think it looks better than what we've got at the moment. Much more dangerous, versatile and I'd say balanced aswell (at the moment, even if Maicon returns, we look too defensive unless Chivu goes to CB). And what missing Vieira would take away, Chivu would more or less give back at full-back.

And please don't say it has been inspired by this Roma game. That's something I've had in my mind for long time and now it was probably the final push for me. I was so hoping for us to get a true proven attacking midfielder like Nani, Ribery or Quaresma this summer. I like Jimenez a lot and I've wanted him at Inter, but I have to admit we cannot hope on him to give us that amount of creativity that would help us through the attackingless games like we've had vs. Villarreal and Valencia in Champions League away.

A bad match to lose. After being our b!tch for a few years, Roma has certainly became our black beast.

It's not the end of the world yet though. Remember, in 05/06 we won the SuperCoppa against Juve but they ended up winning the Scudetto in that season, while we struggled. (Referees help or not)

I hope the whole club took this defeat as a wake-up call and realize that even though we have the best squad in Serie A, we still need to put in our best effort to beat the other teams.

It must be noted, however, that we should not over-react and do any panic transfer that would have a serious long-term repercussion. Stankovic is still a very able midfield, probably the best in Serie A last season, and our management definitely did not make the wrong choice in trusting him to lead our midfield again.

Be patient, it hurts to lose a match, especially an important one like this, but over-negative thoughts will only lead to worse things. We need to take this mistake like a champion should, by accepting our faults, improving them and avoiding them in the future.

Chivu needs to start playing cb.

Maxwell is way better offensively, not to mention its a complete waste of his talent to let him rot away on the bench.

Yeah, Maxwell could've helped a lot against Roma but his form during the friendlies has me worried about him...

Me neither. One week is nothing really.

I blame Mancini for fielding such a defensive team. When Figo and Stankovic was on the pitch the same time we played a better second half. Doesn't neccesarily mean anything, since that was how we generaly performed all of last season. but two defensive midfielders and a natural wingback is pushing it.

Great post. Seriously, very insightfull. That actually aplies to everything you do. Be it a video game or dating or whatever.

One and only guilty for this is Mancini. With f*ckin 3 defensive midfielder, and Stankovic who is more defensive than offensive, so practical we play in middle with 4 defensive player, and this is a reason why we lose a game.

Cordoba and Burdisso are funny players, good maybe for Rimini, but not for Inter.

Chivu is great.

Its like a hurricane struck over here. quit the over-reacting and just wait till the season starts to judge. However u have to admit, this game and the pre season ones have proved we clearly lack CREATIVITY. Lets hope and pray Jimenez sorts that out, otherwise we could be in for some rough times.

The Suazo - Ibra partnership just needs time, dont worry it will get better and better as time goes on. Otherwise we always have our star player Crespo waiting to come in.

some things i gotta say

(1) moratti is right. no need for new players. we have one of the most complete squads but we need humility. we won last year and now we think we are the shit. we need to play hard.

(2) mancini needs to stop having favorite players and play who is better for the team. clearly, we cannot play with 3 defensive mids and one central/defensive mid and expect creativity. we do not need any new players. just need to tweak our formation.

(3) maxwell needs to start. he has proven he is good enough and offensively, he is waaaaaaay better than chivu.

(4) i'm glad adriano didn't get selected because then everybody would've blamed him. what did mancini say? he didn't get selected for tactical reasons? lol

One of the most complete teams?

Our team is heavily unbalanced. We have way to much strengh and power and absolutely no speed or creativity.

A complete team would be a team that pretty much evenly balanced offensively and defensively, we arent that at all.

Since when does Henry a striker w/ 25+ goals in three of his last full seasons and Eto'o w/ 24 and 26 goals in his last two full seasons not count as having a finisher?? Just because both these player can also create goals does not make them any less lethal in front of the net than Crespo.

Sorry to break it to you bud. Our CL play has been on the slide in the past few years (despite garbage opponents) and our phenomenal league play of last year is highly unlikely to repeat itself.

The title may not be won in August but a solid start is the best foundation for a campaign w/ little headaches wondering how you are going to catch up to the leaders. Last night may have been meaningless in your eyes but to me it showed that we are still unprepared to embark upon a title winning season.

Um Gerarrd, enough said.

I dont know about you but a week does not sound like "more than enough time" to get your act together in terms of physical shape.

80% of those converted PKs were won by him. He is still in the ascendancy and w/ his still mediocre pace he was able to win us several FKs in dangerous positions. We dominate in the air so all we need is someone to deliver that killer ball and we can expect to get more than a few goals from set piece positions.

Waleed are you taking some of those Uncle Fester happy pills?? Side effects are confusing players and there positions. Like Kaka as a striker.;) Gerrard is no playmaker he is a great 2 way midfielder but isn't and has never been a playmaker. Hence LFC didn't play with no playmaker.

Chelsea were poor in the communtiy shield but have won 3 league games in a row. While Man utd were better in the community shield but haven't won 1 epl game yet. Hence those performance in the warm game meant nothing same could happen with Inter.

In the cl we went out on away goals. You need some luck in the cl to progress had we had that luck anything could have happened. We haven't been knocked by our opponents in the cl in last 2 season we just haven't scored the goals in the right stadium.;)
