I saw the first 10 minutes or so of this game and was under the impression we would win big. Strongly changed my mind after those first 10 minutes. Team was rotated, fair enough, but a couple of bits and pieces stick out for me that got us only 1 point at home. The first one is obviously the use of Guarin with Icardi. It has been done before two or three games I think, and it never works. Guarin is only useful when playing with two up front, be it Icardi/Osvaldo or Icardi/Palacio. St. Etienne parks the bus and it was the wrong approach playing Icardi with a false amc like Guarin. I understand the risk of starting Palacio/Icardi and Guarin, even for "rotation's" sake, but I'd prefered Bonazzoli with Icardi and Guarin taking the place of either Kuz or M'Villa. The second bit that was quite obvious, it's Kovacic's horrible game. Probably very tired, and understandable, but WM should've judged the situation before and not start him, maybe even not played him at all (Insert Guarin here). Of course taking out Kovacic would mean no creativity, but all he did today was loose the ball. WM should've 'predicted' his performance, for lack of a better word, or at the very least should've taken him out quickly.
The wings, or whatever you want to call Dodo & M'Baye... also were neutralized easily. Dodo managed to do smth here and there, but was very well dealt with in general. M'Baye on the other hand has no place at Inter at the moment and I think it was a mistake he wasn't loaned out. Him on the pitch is playing with 10. Kid needs to be sent out in January because needs much, much work. Doesn't deserve rotation status. Doesn't belong in Europa League either.
The introduction of Khrin was dubious too. I don't know whether WM was forced or not, to send in Hernanes when M'Vila got injured; Hernanes being an attacking midfielder that suggested a 'go for the win' move. I don't know whether he sent him to fit formation... especially after the latter sub when Guarin got out for Palacio. But I do know that introducing Bonazzoli, instead of Khrin, could have been that little push for the goal we were missing. WM chose to play it safe and we got what we deserved.
And for a team that's not particularly known for goals, St. Etienne tested Carrizo multiple times quite seriously. So hats off to him for doing an excellent job.
One could 'blame' the lack of a win on many things like physical fatigue, wrong approach, injuries, back three, back four, fuck mazzarri etc etc, but if WM truly wanted three obvious points at home, he'd have risked more, considering that Cesena is next and you wouldn't need a 100% on-form artillery to approach them. He made choices in players I dissagreed with, but hopefully playing safe this to get 3 points in the league will justify it. If another draw, or god forbid a fucking disaster happens in Cesena, then I'll start quoting Moratti too.
