I like Benatia, but the signing isn't that fantastic. He's had one phenomenal season, but for the most part he's been either injured or decent most years. And he is 29

hes decent but nothing to get excited about... great take ons but many many mistakes in positioning, at least at bayern... maybe the idea of having steady possession and building from the back was not his preferance

I think he's had some very good seasons at Udinese too. I liked him then and hoped we'd sign him.

Bayern wasn't the best place for him, especially under Pep, Serie A was a much better fit. I'm surprised Ancelotti is willing to sell him before getting a chance to work with him though. I guess no chance he benches Boateng - Hummels though.

I feel like Juve, i.e. Conte, Chiellini and Buffon, squeezed everything there was to squeeze out of Barzagli and Bonucci, i.e. they utilized every bit of their potential, that a proper talent like Benatia will do wonders with those guys around him regardless of age, espec. Chiellini and Buffon. Provided he remains healthy.

hell of a replacement for Barzagli. I think he's a fantastic player. Juve just keep getting stronger and stronger. fs.

It's likely they don't even care about Serie A anymore, all of their activity in the mercato is aimed at CL success.

He was really good during his second to last season at Udinese which made Barcelona interested in him, but his last season at Udinese was pretty average. Not to mention he is one of these players who tends to have constant muscular problems, and Juve has a terrible record of injuries under Allegri. I believe they had 64 different injuries last season. Worst in the league.

his last season at udinese was riddled with injuries. he's 29 and injury prone, but i don't think that proves it isn't a top quality signing. you could say the same things about walter samuel in '07. when fit, benatia is an amazing centerback. for 18 mill it's daylight robbery. we can't praise miranda for 15, murillo for 8, and then say benatia for 18 is just "decent". no doubt it made it even clearer that juve has the best defensive lineup in europe right now.

i don't see how we can build a better team than juve unless we sign simeone. even then i'm doubtful with our current technical staff. it's always possible but improbable considering how well coached and managed they are.

Where did I say he wasn't a good signing? I just mentioned he was injury prone, and that his year at Roma was far and away his best season. I believe 18m is a steal if he is fit, but if his injury problems persist Juve could have another Caceres on their hands.

As for Juve they still need to replace Morata adequately. Mandzukic is a workhorse and has his strengths, but he also kills counterattacks and struggles to play anything other than simple passes. Zaza isn't anything special either. Whereas Morata was a gem for them especially in Europe. He also was able to fill in as a SS. Right now they're pretty much reliant on Dybala continuing to be a freak

Like I said before, they're only adding more quality to an already quality team. A combination of quality overall team, coach and management. Sadly we only have the first one. I think they're already done with Serie A and seriously need to step up their poor CL trophies. Kinda reminds me of us before the treble.

Yeah, you want to know why that is? Because they could win Serie A with their eyes closed.

i agree with you if you regard the context of defensive stability, but regarding overall impact to the game, bayern are far ahead with boateng, hummels and martinez. but yes, it is out of question that juve is among the best in europe (it hurts to write it) when it comes to defence

Well they dont have to buy him out. It is an option to buy. With 20+ games it becomes obligatory.
