I think the message was that it was just prize money - there's probably additional sponsorship money as well

Atalanta will 100% take 2nd place. Sarri was like a bathtub toy for Gasperini on sunday.

Lets just win vs Spal and finish the CL qualification job on our part.

If we finish 2nd, then there's a strong chance we would be in CL pot 2 next season. This also depends on Atalanta's run in the CL. But being in pot 2 is probably the best chance we have of going through to round 2.

the teams who win one of the 8 best leagues are automatically in pot 1, but other than that case your spot in the standings doesn't give points for the international competitions: in that regard, 2nd or 4th doesn't make any difference.

yeah exactly. It's driven by historic european performance (via the last 5 years coefficients last time I checked). Thats why I've been saying it takes a few years to build a squad to compete for the CL - your chances to win are presumably MUCH higher if you're in Pot 1 than pot 4. We need a couple of good runs to get to Pot 1 or Pot 2, so that we stop drawing two really good teams every year.

Okay.

Even then pot 3 is a certainty. Atalanta and Inter will be among the pot 2 and 3 contenders. Lazio is definitely going to be in pot 4.

as of right now we're substantially behind lazio:

They are 36th, we are 51st. Because of 15/16 and 17/18 seasons. Atalanta are slightly ahead of us because of their CL this year I guess.

if we had 5 years of CL where we'd been knocked out in the group stages like the last two yearsa, we'd be 20th with Benfica, ahead of Ajax, Zenit, Leverkusen, Valencia, Leipzig for example, but still behind clubs like Porto, Lyon, Shaktar, Roma, Napoli, Chelsea, Spurs, etc.

Could be worse - AC Milan are 81st.

We are only 8 points away from juve. If we hadn't dropped stupid points vs bologna, Sassuolo and verona, we'd be 1 point behind. The team HAS to take encouragement from that. For such a poor second half of the season weve had. That's the biggest frustration, this league was winnable this season.

I was thinking the same last night. And the most infuriating thing isn't that we dropped points against them. It's the way we did it. We conceded when games were under our control. This shows weak mentality and lack of concentration.

if its any consolation, juve probably wouldnt have dropped as many points if we were neck and neck with them.

I get that but everything around the club is so negative at the moment. I guess from that is we have had a bad season and with what, 6 games we are 8 points behind and in second. Like, that's definite improvement and a few more players we could get there. As Il Drago says, we totally threw those games away. It's not like our winning stretches under Mancini where we were getting really lucky wins. We've just been too inconsistent since Christmas.

Napoli apparently paying up to €80m for this Osimhen dipshit? Sounds like fucking insanity to me, especially in this current market.

The last two highly-rated clowns who made big moves from Lille were Pepe and Leao, and both of them turned out to be shitters.. or at the very best, underwhelming..

No, they are paying 50m and offering Adam Ounas for 31m who is worth around 10m maximum, another inflated deal, an omen of COVID market.

That said, they are also paying around 22m for Gabriel which means that Koulibaly gets sold 100%. Lille management are magicians.

Lille sporting director is Luis Campos, the guy who basically built the Monaco side that won Ligue 1 and reached CL semifinals and now he's doing an excellent job at Lille as well.

Hopefully we don't fuck things up with Getafe and advance to the final at least. Then we should be in the 30-40 spots I reckon.
