maybe I would change it in height, like having the goal be 5 cm higher, but that's about it

he makes a compelling argument

Gianluigi Buffon has proposed the idea of increasing the Size of goals.

Gigi Buffon : "I was talking about this with my relatives and my wife the other day. When I started in 1998, I was among the top five tallest players in Serie A but last year, when I was with Parma in Serie B, I was always among the five tallest... but of the twenty-two on the pitch!"

"We could start thinking about it... the size of the goalposts were determined in 1875. They were probably too big for the anthropometric values of that time. It was probably right back then but now, seeing some athletes and goalkeepers, one might think..."

"Even in volleyball, they discuss the height of the net. I have sisters who play volleyball, so I’m aware of the issue."

"Of course, it's not up to me to decide. There are bodies in charge who will certainly be asking questions. Goalkeepers have become bigger, that’s true. But outfield players have also become faster, unpredictable, and they hit harder. You can see the effect of the goalkeeper's height on long shots."

"30 years ago, there were 10 goals for every 50 shots. Today, 3 out of 50 is a lot! From afar it's much more difficult to score with a two-metre goalkeeper."
Very convenient to say this after retiring.

I'm all for 18 teams just to get a few useless fixtures off a cluttered schedule, but not sure how you get the smaller teams to vote for it

Lol stfu Buffon. 1.8m was tall for a goalkeeper back in the day. Now smaller guys, who would have been considered tall not that long ago, have to work extra hard on the their fundamentals and reading of the game. Take Sommer for example. We shouldn’t penalize players like this by moving the goalposts (literally).

Yes, let’s just keep changing the game until every goalkeeper needs to be Trubin-sized.

Fiorentina pressed a lot in the first half, maybe their downfall as they start to tire...let's see.

This is good for reducing four fixtures a year, but promoted teams will still be fresh from Serie B, so not sure if this will do anything for the quality of the league.

Players play less games => quality will probably go up. The fight for the relegation becomes more fierce since the mid-table shrinks.

But they need to figure out the money streams, probably give something more for Serie B, maybe some kind of parachute money type of shit like they do in EPL-Championship.

Yeah I was thinking the same thing. You will only get the smaller clubs on board if you give them something. I think the disadvantage is that those clubs will no longer look at their youth academy at all. (I don't know if it can be even less than this moment) but more money in football means more bad buys. You may be able to ''force'' clubs to invest part of the money in their youth training. With which you can kill 2 birds with 1 stone, we will play fewer matches/competition will become more exciting and the youth will receive a better education.

I am still convinced that just more money to the clubs will not always have a positive effect on the general level of the competitions.

Got a feeling that Osimhen is not a mentally stable guy.

If I was Napoli I'd sell him asap while his price is high. Chelsea always is around to splash money anyway

Aside quality improvement, more talents would be available in cheaper deals and TV money would be bigger for each team, I can see why they push for it.

Reducing the numbers is probably a good thing especially with the tight schedule' all the tournaments for the top clubs. Still feel sorry for the smaller clubs, making it to Serie A is probably good for them economically and great for their fans.
