How on Earth does more posession mean Australia "owned" Italy. This way every fuckin team on the planet owns Italy, cuz it's their tactics to lay back and counter. It's been their tactics for decades.

Aussies were one man up for 40 minutes and couldn't come up with a decent shot on goal. Owned...

It was nice that they got this far, but don't go crazy on some stupid stats when Italy had the chances to go 3-0 by half-time, only Gila and Toni screwed those.

blah blah blah blah

next time try watching the game

Unlucky, Aussies.

Didn't get to see the game thanks to the fucks at work making me stay 3 extra hours!

Glad we went through but at least the Aussies can say they fought to the end, they've done fkin well to get this far as it is.. And had a pretty nice run of performances to boot..

It's so good to see australia out, not cause of croatia, but I enjoyed that penalty...and enjoyed in sad australian faces!!! YEAH!!!!!

Loser!!!! shut up, you got fucked by Aussies, and you are saying "not cause of croatia" its so obvious you are pissed off cause Australia went through and croatia got knocked out by AUSSIES.

That definitely was not a Red Card for Matrix, he wasn't the last man, it wasn't two footed, it wasn't a goal scoring oppurtunity. Why he was sent off I don't know, I think its because of the remarks he and Cahill exchanged, something he did must have enraged the Referee.
.

you are right its not straight red, I think matrix must have done something to the ref during "Cahill exchange"

And then people seem to forget that Australia didn't even create a single chance in the first half, and they hardly created anything in the second half as well even though they had a man more on the pitch. so please tell me why they where robbed. In case you haven't heard it but you don't deserve to go through if you are not able to create chances and that was the case in this game.

heheehehe didnt you get embarrassed when you were under pressure for the whole 40mins with a man down, italia were defending with 10 man there were always at the back, scared of a team which is ranked 42 in the world!!! if italy is all that good why didnt they win from the start? even with a man down they should have won  "Italy is too good for australia"

A moment of disbelief when I read this comment, which is very biased towards the Australia National team IMO. How could you get embarassed if it's absolutely imperative to defend because you only have 10 players? Who would go all out for attack with only 10 men? It's suicidal, any coach with a brain would know absorbing pressures would be more ideal than putting pressures on the opponent, as that would save the players' energy. I just don't understand why should we feel embarassed, especially when Italy defended VERY successfully. Not to mention, defending doesn't mean scared of the Aussies, it has always been the way to go for the Italians, and will always be.

I'm not saying Italy was all too superior to the Australians, but some of the comments were really intolerable, it's like as if you didn't even watch the game. :wth:

However, I do agree we shouldn't speak so offensively to the Aussies supporters in the forum. ;)

Some very biased comments there from some Aussie fans.

Italia certainly did better than Australia in the first half. Australia may have had more of the possession, but they could do nothing with it. Italia on the other hand were sending in deadly long balls to their strikers when they had the ball, and the Australian defenders couldn't do anything about it. The only thing lacking was the finishing.

In the second half, Italia was unlucky to go a man down. Materazzi's challenge didn't deserve a red card. If you watched it first time, maybe it did, but I watched the replay a few times, and it was just a very mistimed challenge. No malicious intent whatsoever.

Australia then managed to dominate the second half with Italia down to ten men. It was only logical to defend when you're a man down, regardless of the opposition. Moreover, Australia is not a weak side. They have good players in Viduka, Bresciano and Cahill. Italia had no choice but to defend. And if you watched the whole game, Italia didn't defend any differently after they went a man down as they did before. The only difference was there was only Iaquinta upfront, and they were having trouble initiating counter attacks.

Australia did have their chances, but they didn't take it. Much like Italia in the first half.

The penalty decision was controversial surely. But in my opinion, it was a somewhat justified one. Neill went diving in too early, and although he didn't touch Grosso, he blocked Grosso's path when he had already pushed the ball past Neill. Grosso was blocked by Neill's body and tripped over it. That's from my point-of-view.

Some of the Aussie fans may not agree, and it is understandable. Just like how Australia feels that the red card given to Materazzi was justified, while the Italian fans feel otherwise.

And please, to all the Aussie fans out there, stop using "Italia got owned by a country 20 places below it in ranking" or "Italia is scared of a team which is ranked 42 in the world". FYI, The Czechs are ranked second, Netherlands third, Mexico and USA sixth, Nigeria 12th. The list goes on, and my point is that the FIFA rankings does not accurately judge the quality of the national football teams. Just look at the facts, Netherlands, USA, Nigeria and the Czechs have all gone out of the WC even though their rankings are all higher than both Italia and Australia. So please, stop using the FIFA rankings in justifying your need to spite the Italian fians.

Hehehe Ammar calm down man its called spur of the moment.

Australia 'owned' Italy because they played for 40 minutes with a man advantage, didn't get one good shot no target and were wreckless enough to let a player into their box with 5 seconds to go.

I was supporting you before in the World Cup to go as far as possible and accept getting knocked out, but it seems possession stats mean you should have gone through.

Shabaz you're contribution to these forums is about the same as what I add to the toilet bowl every morning so pipe down you silly boy.

Matrix is a goof and that's all that really needs to be said. He will continue to make mistakes for his country (if Nesta doesn't come back) and club (hopefully not Inter) will pay for them. Why people here continue to defend one of the most error-prone CD's in Italy, (Europe? Earth?) is beyond my comprehension.

Anyway, respect to the Aussies.
