Aside from Zanetti being a great player, he is actually better than most of the defenders and midfielders on that list, aside from that, he is a player who can cover 3 (RB, LB, DM) positions if at any point in the match a coach wants to make any tactical choices..he doesnt have to bring on any players in these positions, just rotate zanetti...fuck maradonna, big time, but javier will get his deserved rest anyways....

I frankly think its probably a personal thing (with a player/s or someone in the Argie federation)...or as I once remember an Argie fan posting something to the effect he is bad luck since they never won with him & Inter not winning @ the time...I know those sound like bad reasons but why else would he be ommitted:rollani:

Also Maradonas comments regarding Inter/Barca didnt help...he may have included Milito but I think he wont make the 23 man squad either...

If someone, Zanetti would have deserved the call-up to the WC, after this magnificent spring he's having. Not calling Cambiasso can be understood at some extent that if Maradona doesn't intend to play game where Cambiasso is good. But not calling Zanetti is unacceptable. He would have still been a starter in that team, despite being 37 years old.

I'm ultra pissed and also sad on behalf of Zanetti. Now he's missed straight two WCs because of incompetent coaches his NT has had. Having rest in the summer is a little consolation since probably it wouldn't have affected Zanetti one bit.

Really sad, sad shit. Normally I've rooted for Argentina but now I'm just disgusted of Maradona's ridiclous call-ups. Now I'm only hoping for Samuel (and hopefully Milito too) to do well. Probably Milito will be dropped too to make room for Martin "I missed 3 penalties in one match" Palermo.
