Very good game from him. 2 great finishes aside, he looked deadly and most importantly, focused, deliberate and purposeful.

One of my biggest issues with Lautaro is that he's often too instinctive, especially when shooting. His nickname Toro is fitting because like a bull, he sees red and just charges without much thought. This tendency often leads him to lash out at the ball, resulting in poor finishing and striking technique, or make poor decisions in general.

Today though, his finishes were extremely cool and he played with poise and certainty - like he knew what he wanted to do at every moment. A very mature performance and hopefully a blueprint for him moving forward.

.....and yet he still didn't last 90 minutes :palm:

7 goals in the last 6 matches. Prior to matches, 12 matches in which he only scored against Salernitana. If he were consistent he would a top 5 striker in Europe. Even at his current pace, he has the chance of cracking the top 10 Inter goalscorers of all time next season, assuming he'll still be here of course.

I think that in hindsight this will be a really important season for his development. Last year Lukaku was the guy, Lautaro had his moments but overall we all knew who the Batman was in that tandem. This year Lautaro had to adjust to being the focal point of the attack and to be fair that took some time. However I think what you’re seeing now is a player that came out on the other side of a really dark moment and is better off for it.

I think in his own way he even needed to prove to himself that he could be the guy, and when things didn’t go well he took it extremely hard. He never stopped fighting though and he got himself out of it. The mental maturity he will take away from that will serve him well in the future. As Universe said, he is starting to look more polished, the finishing is less rushed and more assured, and he is focusing his efforts in ways that hurt the opposition.

We need to keep Lautaro. Full stop. Play him as a CF the way City did Aguero or Inter did Milito. Give him the support he needs and he will be a problem next year both in Serie A and Europe imo.

Both Inter and Lautaro numbers look good but they don't tell the whole story. When Lautaro is in good form he's someone you can count on in attack. The problem with Lautaro is he's inconsistent and he has dry periods every season. That's when you need another forward to step up and share the burden in attack. Sadly we had none to do it in second round and that's when Scudetto was lost.

Sassuolo: 0 goals
Genoa: 0 goals
Torino: 1 goal
Fiorentina: 1 goal
Bologna: 1 goal

These were the matches where Scudetto was lost. No one stepped up in second round. Dzeko stats may look decent but since January he scored in just 4 matches. Correa hasn't scored since the doppietta against Udinese in October. Sanchez had just 3 goals since January. Defenders and midfielders contributed a bit here and there but none of them scored consistent enough.

It may sound ridiculous when we have the best attack of the league but we lost scudetto from attack. That's where we need to focus in the summer.
True. Base on the shots we made this season our attackers should have been higher on the score list. Despite scoring the most goals in the league our attackers were very wasteful and non efficient on numerous occasions, which cost us dearly.

When we get that 70m€ offer in the summer, let's hope that won't be a sad day.

What player do you think Suning will spend that money on? They will most likely bring back Joel Obi and pocket the 70 million.

Becareful what you hope for.

Might be unpopular opinion but I’m blaming him as the reason for us not winning the league.

Its kind of funny, its hard to look past him + Dzeko for really costing us the title in the middle of the seasons, but at the same time, Lautaro is the only reason we're still in it right now.

I think we can call Lautaro overall neutral if not positive on that basis, but I'm really disappointed in Dzeko after he started so well and then failed to show up in the second half of the season. I really hope he leaves this summer. 6 goals in 27 league rounds is just not acceptable.

Yeah Dzeko was a big disappointment in the latter part, but maybe it was just that he gave us too big expectations because of the first half. It might have been big overachieving and it returned to the mean. There's a difference between Dzeko and Lukaku after all, even though Dzeko was maybe our top3 players in the first part and there the difference wasn't seen.

Irrespective of whether he returned to his average, etc, for a starting striker at a club like Inter, it simply wasnt good enough. Same is true for a player on the wages he's on.

He was a thorn in Cagliari's defence and his finishings for both goals were untypically cool methodic shot instead of wild one. It would be nice if he can consistently display such performance all season long. One of our main obstacles to seal early Scudetto is our incompetence to finish our chances. Lautaro played passenger and fired blank at January-February which really costs us a bagful of points. That is very disapppointing for a main forward of a team which vie for championship. If only he showed up in some of those matches, we would already be celebrating our second stars today.

One player can't shown up in every match. You need team mates to back you up when you struggle. We didn't have those players backing up Lautaro when he struggled. He has scored 25 goals this season, 21 in the league. Can't really blame him if we don't win.

Lautoro is still the same player, an off the ball striker with predatory instincts. But he can't dribble or create anything for himself. He will never be the guy to shoulder the expectation that comes with the iconic number #10. And that's ok. But it means we will need to invest heavily on a strike partner who is ready and equipped to be that guy.
you know that Dybala is coming, right? :p

The real problem is you need one more active forward to support him.

Argentina NT = Messi , everyone cover Messi.
Inter 2020/2021 = Lukaku, everyone cover Lukaku.

The real Lautaro is when Lautaro play with Messi / Lukaku not Dzeko.

LAUTARO MARTINEZ’S GOALS VS. CAGLIARI SAW HIM EQUAL RONALDO, ICARDI RECORD

Lautaro Martinez became only the sixth player in Inter‘s history to score 20 goals in a single season before the age of 25.

The Argentina forward scored twice to take the Nerazzurri’s title challenge into the final day of the campaign and in doing so passed the 20-goal mark for the season.

The last Inter player to score 20 goals in a season before turning 25 was Mauro Icardi, who did it twice. In 2014-15, at 22, he hit 27 and two years later he scored 26.

Before Icardi, it was Brazil legend Ronaldo who was 21 when he joined in 1997 on the back of two world-record fees and Ballon d’Or. He kicked off his Inter career with 34 in all competitions but only reached double figures in one more season before leaving for Real Madrid in 2002.

You have to go back almost 40 years for the last time prior to Ronaldo when Antonio Angelillo, star of the Grande Inter team of the the 1950 and 1960s, scored 38 times in the 1958-59 season when he was 22 years old.

Earlier still, Hungary forward Stefano Nyers scored 26 times in his debut campaign with Inter in 1948-49, the season he turned 25. The legendary Giuseppe Meazza, born in 1910, hit at least 20 goals for 10 straight seasons at Inter from when he turned 18 in 1928 until 1937-38.
Keeper IMO but Suning might have a different POV.

So,he scored 74 goals for Inter in 180 games (0.41 per game). Adriano is also on 74 (177 games,0.42 per game).

One more and he will be on level with Facchetti,J.Cruz (197 games,0.38 per game) and Milito (171 games,0.44 per game) with 75.

Some interesting numbers here cause this is the first season where he is a leading striker for Inter.

Also,he needs 12 more to enter top 10 on this list and 22 to get past Mario Corso who is number 9 on that list. This is all more than achievable next season.

I've been an absolutely massive critic of him but I'd like to keep him next year. He plays best with Correa so I think a combo of him and Dybala would be unreal. That is if we sign Dybala of course. Regardless if that 70m offer comes I think Zhang is driving him to the airport immediately.

Dzeko is 36 years old, he never should've been the starter. And he was kind of expected to deteriorate, just maybe not this rapidly.
Lautaro on the other hand was/is supposed to be the star striker entering his prime. I get your point, it's just unfair to place the burden of failure on Dzeko. It's clear to everyone that his body can't do it anymore. But Inzaghi calls the shots and it is what it is.

It almost upsets me that we won the supercoppa/coppa because it protects Inzaghi from much deserved objective criticism.

Don't be upset. Some are waiting for Inter to lose the title so they start blaming Inzaghi for it and claim "iT WouLd hAve nEvEr haPpEnEd uNder CoNtE"!

I love conte as a manager, but he didn't have the balls to take this team.

If I was offered a chance of winning the league on the final day, winning the supercup and coppa the day after we sold Rom, as well as going out round of 16 after beating Liverpool at anfield if have taken your hand off.

But seeing where we were at the Derby in February it really stings. Losing that game was the turning point.
