I don't think we are keeping Zarate specially if we get Lucas

If we get Lucas and let Zarate go then we will still need to sign another striker. Replacing Zarate with Lucas will leave us no better off than we are right now. Worse off actually, as I doubt Lucas is going to come over here and be any better than Zarate right away.

Ronaldo, Recoba
Recoba came from a weaker league for a fee close to 20m euro (today would be equivilent to 25m). We know how good Recoba turned out, and imagine how much better he could have been had he not suffered so many injuries !

And the characteristics of both El Chino and Lucas are very similar. Both small players with excellant skill and a great shot !

So why would'nt it work out ?

Recoba was dominating in Nacional at age of 17 with 17 goals in 33 games and certainly a couple assists even if I cant find the number now. After that he was bought. Hardly the same comparison. Lucas (19) has done what for Sao Paolo to warrant a 25 million? 12 goals and 6 assists in 49 appearances. I'm sorry but your "they are very similar so he will turn out good" doesn't convince me. 25 million for me is a price for a proven player even in today's market or somebody that is a real protagonist in South American league.

Well man point me to a player that was sold from Brazil for a large sum in the last 5-6 years and backed it up by equally impressive performance? Maybe Robinho, Ramirez? I think you get my point. Italians had a phenomenal generation not long ago but you wont pay a large sum for someone like Govinco just because his Italian?

Brazil lacks quality at the moment and that's a fact. Ronaldo, Kaka, Ronaldhino, Rivaldo, R. Carlos ....etc are non existent in the current generation and all had a much bigger impact in there homeland before they were brought here in Europe for a lot less.

I dont think we are getting Lucas and Giovinco would be a miracle tbh. I think we are going to end up with Zarate (If he performs well). I know this isnt a rumor or anything, but what do yall think about Barca's Adriano? He is always a sub, but he seems to have an impact almost every time he comes in the game. We get rid of Stankovic and offer a bid for Adriano which wouldnt cost much imo. Napoli should give us Lavezzi

they bought him for 9 mil and now they have fabregas, thiago, affelay, sanchez to sub. I think he will have no more playing time soon enough. If we offered maybe 7 Mil they will sell him. He's still at good age (27) and Brazilian (Inter seems to be in awe of argetines and brazilian):awwwyeah:

I was'nt comparing them regarding their respective club results, and if you do note i mentioned that Recoba came from a weaker league !!!!!!

Characteristics are similar, both short, zippy players that are skillfull with a great shot. I'm sure Lucas would stand out in a weaker league !!!!!

Convince you? No, he's already convinced our scouts and managerment, last summer, we made a 25m bid for him but Sao Paulo rejected.

Same. Giovinco has become a class player.

As for Lucas, it should be made aware, if you're not already, that the Brazilian league ends in December. So it'd have to be in the January mercato if MM really wants him. Sao Paulo would slap an even-more extravagant fee on him if we went after him in the summer and the middle of their season.

If we get Lucas, we are getting him in Jan, so we would still have Zarate. In the summer when Zarate leaves then we can evaluate Lucas if he can be a regular starter or not. Also, we could get rid of Milito and bring someone in his place.

So, don't worry, we don't need Lucas to come over here and be better than Zarate right away!

He is an investment!

Why?!

Brazilian league finishes in Dec, Jan is the perfect time to buy Lucas. We tried to sign him in summer but Sao Paolo refused and asked us to come back in Jan the league ends

If Sao Paulo wants 35 millions it would be tough to negotiate this deal in january. (and our budget for this winter market should be used for a couple of midfielders first and probably a defender) I see more this kind of talks from the next june when Sneijder will probably leave and we'll have enough money to splash on Lucas.
