Mourinho would have been crucified if we got eliminated from the Champions League groups and his salary was 2/3 of Conte's. - Doubt it. We got eliminated from the CL in his first season with a more performant side pretty atrociously (more performant because it was league winners several years in a row)
Mourinho got eliminated in the round of 16 from Manchester United due to two early half goals by headers while our shots grazed the bar.
What on earth are you talking about? And how is that relevant? You give Mourinho last season and there's no way he loses the qualification to Dortmund via a Barcelona B loss. No way.
Mourinho would have been crucified for losing the Europa League final. - I dont think so. I think fans are upset, and rightly so, that we didnt win it, but its always 50/50. Crucified is a ridiculous thing to say tbh. Knocked out in the 16th stage of the EL, yeah, crucified. Losing the final to the all time most winning EL side? Different story.
If he lost it the way we did, he would, regardless of opposition.
Mourinho would have been crucified if he lost twice to Juventus, playing as if he was managing Siena. - No, dont think so. We're a less capable and talented team than Juve at the moment. Opening up lodas of spaces might have resulted in getting rammed. Mourinho is hardly the 'expressive, expansive' football manager.
So Spalletti with 1/3 of Conte's budget competed far better against a better Juventus side and didn't win due to refs fucking us over, yet Conte with record breaking signings and a Juventus in turmoil is managing a "less capable and talented" side... Sure...
Mourinho would have been crucified if he insisted to spend 80m on a player that did not warrant it, from a team he wanted out of whilst the feeling was mutual. - This is just stupid. Lukaku had a good season, its your own opinion that he does not 'warrant' it. Man Utd dont really get beholden to losing players at discounted rates, as far as I recall. Once they want them out, they're out (Sanchez for example), but Man Utd didnt want Lukaku out, he wanted out from Man Utd. I dont follow them closely, but when was the last time a player wanted out from them (rather than vice versa)? Even Pogba cant fucking leave atm
Who cares what season he had? He messed our entire transfer preparation and it was a huge risk, still is as the cost is ongoing and not just for a question of one season. And no top manager is stubborn enough to whine at his club for not spending a shitload of money on a guy that has been considered a flop for his team. You like economics, this is a real life example of
opportunity cost.
Mourinho would have been crucified if he wanted Skriniar out. - I actually dont buy that for a second. The fans did put up with Mourinho making decisions that were 'against' some fan favourites - Materazzi and Cordoba played much less, Cruz went, I dont remember any crucifying.
Materazzi was benched for Samuel, something that was common long before Mourinho came here apart from the seasons were Samuel was injured, whilst Cordoba was slowly being phased out anyway. And they both got a lot of playing time under Mourinho. And these guys had been at Inter for years and were in their 30s, they weren't players for the next 10 years.
In fact, season 2007-8 the central defenders with most minutes were Chivu and Burdisso, while Cordoba was just behind Nicolas, while Materazzi had slightly more minutes than injured Samuel.
Mourinho's 2008-9, Cordoba was in fact the center back with most minutes, so he got upgraded. Materazzi was 34 and was relegated to a bench role with Samuel being slightly more fit and Chivu still was a top CB but also injured so they were essentially rotated. Cordoba was the main center back with the next in line being Chivu, Burdisso and Samuel in that order, with Materazzi fifth. And he wasn't shown the door, he accepted that he wasn't good enough anymore.
But this is yet another irrelevant deviation from the point with a silly counter-example of a current situation to paint a completely different picture.
Mourinho would have been crucified if he failed to respond in games tactically. - Well, yes, but to be honest, this is Mourinho's raison d'etre as a tactician. If he didnt do this, he would literally have nothing. The whole 'Special One' stuff was because of his ability to tinker with his team tactically and adapt to the next opponent. I'm pointing that out because he was LITERALLY CALLED THE SPECIAL ONE for doing that.
He was called "the special one" because of his first press conference as a Chelsea manager, because he wasn't able to understand the difference between articles "the" and "a" in the English language and the English media was stupid enough to not realize that and played along with it.
And no, it wasn't a tinkering thing. What's Conte's thing then if not tactical rigidness?
Point in fact, Mourinho is a class apart from our current manager in the core essence of coaching.
Mourinho would have been crucified if he didn't win a trophy in his first season. - This comment here, tbh, is why I had the confusion between Mourinho of 2010 and this hypothetical scenario of Mourinho 2020. Only a fucking idiot would crucify Mourinho hypothetically managing this team on last season with the same results Conte had. Taking over a side that hasnt been competitive in almost a decade and pulling the season we had off, deserves praise. Whoever the manager is.
You should really just stick to the accounting aspects of football.
