Nandez didn't come because Dumfries took his spot and then no midfielder was going to leave. I guess we could have LOANED Vecino to Napoli but it's the last year of his contract so that wasn't gonna happen.

I think this is a pretty good squad.

Attack might be a bit of an issue if Sanchez's fitness is concern. But that's still better than year ago when we had LuLa + Sanchez with his injuries. At least now we've added that 3rd striker to push Sanchez to 4th with his injuries.

Midfield is quite stacked to be honest, we have depth now as Vecino and Gagliardini are basically 6th and 7th options.

Defence is the same but surely injuries might ruin stuff there.

So basically we didnt improve a bit from last year. Might have more diversity, but the team is not better by any means.

We lost our two most important players - Lukaku and Hakimi. I have no idea how good Dumfries is but he is deffo not better than Hakimi. We got Dzeko, who was supposed to be Lukakus backup, not first choice forward. We got Calhanoglu instead of Eriksen, and thats it. And Correa who is inconsistent as fuck.

All in all, Hakimi, Lukaku, Eriksen > Dzeko, Correa, Dumfries, Calhanoglu.

But, its not that bad, AND it depends on how well Inzgahi settles with these guys.

We didn't improve but made tons of money to fix the finances a bit.

Conte -> Inzaghi downgrade
Lukaku -> Dzeko downgrade
Hakimi -> Dumfries downgrade
Pinamonti -> Correa upgrade
Eriksen -> Calhanoglu upgrade (yes)
Young -> Dimarco upgrade

Then we have fit Vecino, fit Sensi (so far), fit Vidal (so far). That's better depth than what we had for example last spring.

About Eriksen -> Calhanoglu. I'd say that's an upgrade because Eriksen was used in very restricted role and Conte was using only half of his abilities. Now Inzaghi will use Hakan in a role which gives him liberty to use his abilities more freely. What that means to our defence is something we need to see, but this is an upgrade in my books per se (because we never got to see Eriksen with Inzaghi so there isn't such comparison to be made).

Agree with Cafe. And while Inzaghi may be a downgrade to Conte, it should also lead to something better than a one-dimensional attack. Last season, everything started and stopped with Lukaku for us. That should not be the case now, and it's an upgrade too.

I think we only downgrade a little in attack.

Last year we only had Lukaku Lautaro and Sanchez. Pinamonti was useless and Perisic was played as 2nd striker at times.

This year we will have 4 serviceable strikers with diverse skillsets. In the long run, having Dzeko - Sanchez for some odd matches will be much better than having to count on Sanchez - Pinamonti.

Hakimi will be a huge loss, but hopefully, Dimarco Perisic and Inzaghi shifting the focus to the middle can somewhat make up for this loss.

All in all, this season will be very unpredictable. If Inzaghi and Lautaro manage to take the step up, we will notice little change in quality. But they can fail miserably just as likely too.

The coaching change is by no means a downgrade.

Missing Pintus from the staff on the other hand may be visible in spring.

The season will be wild and long, probably unlike last year where more than half the teams didn't even get a proper preseason.

Target is to challenge for the Scudetto, possibly go for the cup and also go as far as possible in the Champions League, hopefully QFs at least.
And it's doable as long as the defensive trio is healthy and the setup doesn't hurt them like it did in the 2020 autumn with Conte going YOLO with Zeman shit.

If Cunte played without Lukaku and Hakimi we would draw against Genoa. Finally we are playing some football under Inzaghi.

Yeah, that last sentence is indeed a key for success. We need to have good balance in attacking and defending, AS A TEAM. Conte concentrated on the team defence, everyone had to do their own part all the time. And for the most of the players that was dropping quite deep. That obviously hurt the attacking. It gave us that steel defence though.

I didn't see Genoa match but I heard there was quite a lot of space for the opponent when they were attacking. And it was Genoa. So it's a slight concern at this point but the sample size is so small we can't draw any conclusions.

It's time for Vidal to give back imo.

Marotta has doubled down on the fact that our mercato is finished.

Not impressed to be honest. A 4th striker, even Keita Balde, would have left me a lot more reassured about the upcoming season.
