^ unless the player gives an outright story of it, like Ibrahimovic did in his autobiography, we actually don't know who is actually responsible for any transfer. All we can do is speculate. We like to give credit to who we like and vilify whoever we dislike when it comes to transfers but in reality, we don't know.

Squad for 2013/14

Since we've already made some early moves, I'm going to look at what our squad could look like next season and where should the focus be. The formation template assumed here is a 433/4231

GK - we're set here, maybe another backup could be needed

CB - Rano, Juan, Campagnaro, Andreolli, Chivu, Samuel, Silvestre
We're quite nicely set for centerbacks, with some talent and experience. Chivu could stay but the other two would mostly leave.

Fullbacks - JZ, Nagatomo, Pereira, Jonathan
We need one good fullback and there would be rumours about Jung or others. Considering that JZ would still mostly play, I won't mind having M'Baye or another as backup.

Midfield - Kovacic, Guarin, Gargano, Kuzmanovic, Obi, Cambiasso, Stankovic, Mudingayi
The midfield looks very thin. We need at least one experienced signing here, and another will depend on the expectations and readiness of Benassi, Duncan.

Attackers - Icardi, Palacio, Cassano, Schelotto, Laxalt, Milito, Longo, Livaja, Alvarez
If Milito stays, then we don't need another striker. Him+Icardi+Livaja/Longo should be good enough. We would need another winger/AM which could be Bellomo/Quintero or someone.

So our priorities now would be a fullback, 1-2 midfielders, an AM/winger and no coach :awyeah:

I'd like to see MBaye go out on loan

I'd be tempted almost to loan Obi, there's not much space for him in this current team, especially with people like Kovacic, Kuzmanovic, and potentially yet another CM coming in.

Livaja will definitely be at Atalanta next season, already confirmed. Longo should have another season at a club to try and establish himself - I dont want anyone who isnt already a first team starter for their loan club.

Would also loan out Duncan or Benassi, keeping one I dont mind but IMHO for their development it'd actually be better for both to loan

I doubt Silvestre and Gargano and Mudingayi will stay. They're all loanees. Expect them to be gone by the end of this season...

I'd take gargano for under 5. He is good option, often can be used to close down and stuff. Great rotational player.

Man I don't get the hate around this guy. If we can surround him with the right midfielders, then Gargano is an asset in the first 11. I'd say with Kovacic, and Kuzmanovic beside, Gargano would look a lot better.

Can we get someone who would look better without the need of good players‘ help around him?

Or is that too costly for us?

I still hope we keep Mudingayi on the cheap, assuming he can stay fit. A very competent player at the very worst

Six months ago he was Gatusso with some Pirlo deep lying characteristics. Now he is good rotational option. With this progress you will in the summer see the truth. Player is below average and not worth of milions.

Players like that are usualy available on free transfer: Behrami, Gatusso, Flamini, Cana .... Just find one and take for free this summer.

Who compared him with Gatusso or Pirlo, or even said he is DLP?

I still think he is definitely above average, good player IF used right. The fact he isn't what some (including me) expected is not changing much.

Yea, put Messi in midfield.

It's really sad that we can only choose between Gargano and Messi, hopefully our scouts will be better than you.

The fact is that there is only a limited improvement that can be brought upon by 1 player. Put Xavi in our midfield and he will suck. He can't keep the ball all by himself, and he won't find anyone to make passes to since the others are so static and technically inept.

The previous game showed how much our midfield improved just by adding Kuzmanovic. Now we have options like Kuzman, Kovacic and Guarin who are all between Gargano and Messi. This can certainly improve the play, what's needed now is some tactical nous and getting these players to work together so they can pass the ball amongst themselves.

Actually, I don't disagree with you, it's just that your argument is a bit flawed and contradicting.

First you said 1 player won't be a massive improvement:

Then you say:

So one Xavi wouldn't improve our squad, but a Kuzmanovic was able to do that? What does that mean? Kuzmanovic > Xavi?

Anyway, we definitely need someone with Gargano's characteristics, with high stamina and work rate to compensate for the lack of that with Kuzmanovic. Obviously, I would want one with a better on-ball skills, but I guess with our limited budget we can't have everything in our way.

And why do we need to waste two a slot in midfield for a player that compensates another ones flaw when we can release Gargano and acquire a player with the same aggressiveness and stamina but with better passing range and with better physicality? Gargano isn't unique by any means.

That's why I asked if there's someone else.

The thing with Gargano is, he's currently on loan here, Napoli don't need him there. We probably negotiated a buy-out price, and even if we didn't, he probably wouldn't cost much.

That, is certainly a plus.

It sounds contradicting, and maybe I didn't put it properly. 1 player can definitely improve our midfield a lot, but there is only a limit to it. We looked much better with Kuzman, but that doesn't take the midfield to the level of Juve/Barca.

Consider that we started the season with Zanetti-Gargano-Cambiasso-Guarin, we can end the season with Guarin-Gargano-Kovacic-Kuzmanovic. This is a lot of improvement technically, but still to make them play better we need a lot of coaching and tactics.

We will surely make at least 1-2 more. Guarin, Gargano, Kovacic, Kuzmanovic, Cambiasso, Benassi, Duncan, Obi aren't enough especially considering 1-2 of them will not be here and 1-2 are forever injured.
