This is a brilliant thread, I have an idea though, just because rest of the forum is like me and to give a proper structure to this thread, why dont we start discussing each transfer window for a week or so. Like this week we should discuss and vote 2003/4 summer window and next week the winter window of that season....

We can then bash/praise Branca and see the growth we have acheived in our transfer dealings.

Moratti and coaches more or less directly handled the transfer. Only since Fachetti era (as a prez) our staff was given enough power to control some of the transfers, as well as funding the youth. However, Moratti still seems to handle any transfer out of Inter's budget.

Thanks VLE! This only goes to show that you can't give a businessman all the power when it comes to sporting issues.

@Suneet
If we're going to do that wouldn't it be easier to start some subthreads for each transfer window? Or would this be too much?

Or...how about you just go look at the other 2 or 3 threads I have created on this exact same topic over the years. It clearly shows how people have evolved their bitching over the years and forget to show any compliments. Just like showing Hamed a timeline of his adolescent years.

Missed that one, but to my deffense, I was in US back then, and I had limited internet time :D

Very good opening post Hal. I see we're been on the same foot with this from the start. Glad to hear.

That is probably why you changed your mind. Anyways at least you admit that you were on the other side, unless many others who won't.

The problem with "new fans" is the same as the problem with JuBe fans who started to support JuBe in their "glorious" days. For them the succesfull era was like the starting point, and anything better than this is good, and anything worse than this is bad.

Same with us. New fans take the current situation as normal, while Branca & Co and their job is mostly appriciated by fans who remember the "dark ages" I think.

I'm not what you would call a new fan but I really don't know what the dark ages were... Is that the time when signing guys like Favalli and Wome were deemed an improvement to the squad? Or did it get worse than that. My Inter transfer knowledge from 2000-2003 is kinda limited to solely major transfers.

It's not a swing at the "new" fans or anything Nyall, but I think it's reasonable to think what I've said.

It's simply hard for a new fans to know how lucky we are at the moment for example, because they weren't fans in the days where it was very hard for us, and even if they know about our history, the image of it will never take place of reality and living through it. IMO.

It's same when for example my parrents tell us how it was hard for them, and how it is easy for the youth right now, that we have everything etc. etc. and still complaining ;) It's kinda similar I think.

The dark ages were the days when a 30< players in the squad was a great accomplishment, and a days where we bought tons of players in hope some of them will turn out to be good. Days where Moratti spent tons of money for sometimes useless players, without even thinking if we need them, or if the coach needs them, or the other way around. Buying some crap simply because he blindly believe in Lippi.

Gresko/Georgatos times, I think people know what I'm talking about ;)

I thought 2004 was pretty bad though..., Inter sold Cannavaro and got Carini back

Cannavaro performed very well in Juve and returned back to his top form. But Carini....? Did anyone remember how did he played in Inter?

I think it was a logical move. With Canna, you're never gonna any scudetto or Trophies. He's right in the center of our defense, but his heart is always with Juventus.
I was personally really happy when he's out.
To me, he is a bigger traitor than Ronaldo.

Georgatos was good I thought, just unlucky with injuries. BUt he was really impressive the first few months. I remember at the time we really need a left footed, left wingback. Back then the squad was quite good, just lacking in some areas. I mean we had Di Diagio as the medotista in front of the defence, Paulo Sousa as our creative midfielder, Moriero on the wings, Blanc at the back, Vieri up front... Peruzzi in goal  Anyone remember Cauet coming off the bench  Hell, Mutu too. Fucking great team when you think about it... just injuries and then Lippi was a stubborn twat. And Juve were too dominant then. There was a lot of world class players spread around serie a back then (Thuram, Veron, Nataka, Batistuta, Cafu, etc). The quality of the football wasn't of the highest caliber as nowadays but anything could happen back then...

You're right Luka about new fans not realizing how good they have it, or how "spoilt" they are... I remember we used to lose to the likes of Atalanta and even Bari... sometimes AT HOME!! Good times :)

this thread reminds me when Inter had a squad that contain Ferrari, Cirillo, Gresko, Helveg, Farinos, Vampeta, Okan, Hakan Sukur, Robbie Keane

who's responsible for buying them ? Moratti or the coach ? that's the worst squad in Inter's history

I guess we, as a team, needed to build the structure of rescruitment and all.
During Gigi Simoni, and Lippi.. perhaps.. The coach had more to say, and we didn't have someone like branca.
Under Cuper, he had to work with players Lippi had bought.. And Cuper's buys were strange too..

Cuper didn't like to buy creative players.. He liked players like Gresko, Giorgatos, and Kily Gonzalez was the most creative players under his reign.
I guess Moratti was fed up.. that missed out many interesting and creative players.

To make it worse, italian league was dominated by players on by GEA, a sporting agency lead by Moggi's son...
So, it was very difficult for us to sign descent italian players, if we do.. that man might be under Moggi's influence. After a while, I think Inter came to realize that..
We kicked out traitors, and keep players like Matrix and Toldo... Grosso was descent as well..

We are named 'internazionale', but I guess recently.. we become very selective on italian players to play with us.. First because few are actually good enough.. And we have to make sure.. they are Moggi free..

Inter's recent dark ages:
1992-1996

1999-2004

I doubt many in here endured the first (recent) dark spell

I don't think Cuper's buys were strange, it's just that he liked to play 2 defensive midfielders with tenacity, and wingers plus wing backs to cross into the box.

And Georgatos had his good moments with the club during his first stint with us, good enough for us to buy him twice.

Can't say the same about Gresko and Brechet though. :howler:

I beg to differ with that. Now seeing Lucio for half a season, I would have taken Carvalho if he had cost as much (he didn't).

And I beg to differ with you. Except a couple of matches Lucio has been pretty good for us.

Lucio is a risk for us, he goes way too forward for me for a CB.
