Same here... When Lavezzi doesnt play, Cavani sucks. He needs someone who can open space for him, as every striker.

He proved me wrong though, i thought he will be flop in Napoli. But i guess that tactics suits him well.

How do you draw that conclusion when Lavezzi has played every single time Cavani has played? The only time Lavezzi did not play is when Cavani played 32 minutes against Chievo. In fact Cavani scored against Man City back in September AFTER Lavezzi was subbed off.

I understand you guys have opinions, but if you are going to make outrageous claims, at least check to make sure you can support them lol

I dont think Pajo was making outrageous claims!! I think mostly he was stating the obvious in terms of strategy and movement of forwards!! Not every striker need space tho.And Cavani is one of them! But of course having Lavezzi to support him is a plus, but not a must, obviosly in this case!

The statement "Cavani plays better with Lavezzi on the field" or "Cavani is shit without Lavezzi of the field" cannot be made just yet because this has never happened.

Could this statement be true? Of course...but until we at least see Cavani play without Lavezzi on the pitch how the hell do we know how good or bad he is by himself??

We dont know.thats why i said Pajo probably was just stating the obvious in terms of forward movements.i havent folowed Napoli enough to come to a conclusion either way for myself.Just out of curiosity, when Cavani scored a hatrick vs Milan, was Lavezzi on the pitch?? Either way it wouldnt prove anything,im just curious to know.

In general, he does. Last year Cavani sucked pretty much every game where Lavezz/Hamsik didnt play. He needs someone else to open space for him, and in Napoli, he has at least 3-4 players to do that for him.

Not saying he is bad or something, just that Hamsik and Lavezzi, hell, even Maggio, are more important to the team, than Cavani is..

I think you guys are not being fair to Cavani at all.

The fact remains that Maggio, Hamsik, and Lavezzi were all @ Napoli before. Yet before Cavani arrived, they were a midtable team. Quagliarella, Denis, Zalayeta e.t.c were all on the squad and at MOST, could score 10-12 goals. Cavani came and scored 26 and now they're in the CL, in the HARDEST GROUP, and still have a very good chance to qualify. On top of that, Lavezzi/Hamsik still retained their same stats like all previous seasons without Cavani.

So to me, I would actually say, Cavani is most important to this Napoli machine. Without a forward like him (mobile, work-rate, AND finishing), the machine does not work.
All the players play their part and are very important as well, but Cavani has simply been excellent ON HIS OWN MERIT.

---------- Post added at 22:04 ---------- Previous post was at 22:01 ----------

And on top of that, most of Cavani's goals are not tap ins or even headers. Most of his goals are from 1/2 chances in all honesty.

True that.. everyine has their part, that is why football is TEAM sport. Not everyone can succeed everywhere as well, no matter the quality.

The overall changes, looking forward to a brighter future..

Now that it's official that we are out of the Scudetto race, I think it would be nice to have a thread where we could talk about what needs to be done to be ready for the next season.

Personally I think that there are several points that needs to be fixed:

1. We need a new coach, one that has a brain and can use the players in their possitions.

2. We need to clean up the squad, let go of the players that are the past (Hello Chivu, Stankovic, Milito etc)

3. We need to boost our midfield creativity and attack (I'm thinking a player like Ibra or Balotelli)

4. I don't know who to take out, but there is something wrong in our defence. Maybe it's because there is a lot more pressure on it since we suck overall I don't know..

P.s. I'm hoping that Napoli will win the scudetto, since I would hate to see Milan or Juve winning..

We became Milan of 07/08, and the sad part is, it was obvious what would happen, and preventable. And not only did management act like there is no looming problem, they acted like there is no problem even AFTER it became completely obvious (like after the Schalke humiliation). Complete denial. At the start of the summer I was convinced we would spend at least $60m, and bring in world class midfielders and CBs. Instead, we got Forlan, Zarate on loan (meaning mgmt knew he wasn't a solution), Poli on loan, and the only signings who have shown potential, Alvarez and Castaignos.

Where's the CB, the worldclass CM? The new LB? Resigned Lucio, Stankovic, Chivu and brought Nagatomo in permanently instead!

i'm not saying they won't turn out to be first team material, but with the signings probably being Juan Jesus and Kucka essentially we're signing 2 backup/bench players to solve our problem of having a first team made up of too many backup/bench players :chan:
