From Goal:
The 16-year-old, better known simply as 'Coutinho', signs on at the San Siro for a fee said to be in the region of €10m.

The attacking midfielder is one of the most-discussed youngsters in Brazilian footballing circles, and despite having made just a handful of first team appearances he was previously tracked by Real Madrid.

Club president Roberto Dinamita told Radio Bandeirantes today, however, that the Spanish side's interest was moot after Inter paid 10 million Brazilian reals for Coutinho's services.

However as part of the deal the youngster will remain at Vasco until the end of the 2008-09 season at least in order to home his skills.

I dunno about you guys, but like I said in the other topic, I like this kid. 10 million is very very steep but at least we are waking up and looking into youth players, and looking into offensive midfielders! Normally we would sign some conservative midfielder for 30 million for three mediocre seasons as they end their career. Hopefully Coutinho and some of our other youth players can blossom in the next few years (Bolzoni, Pele, Balotelli), and we can have a strong, somewhat home grown team.

Inter secure Coutinho coup
Tuesday 22 July, 2008
Inter have snapped up Brazilian teenage prodigy Philippe Coutinho from Vasco da Gama and sold Sebastian Ribas to Dijon.

Vasco da Gama have announced that they struck a £3m deal to hand the 16-year-old attacking midfielder to the Nerazzurri.

However, due to the Italian laws on younger players, he will not be able to play in Serie A until he turns 18, so he'll remain in Brazil on loan at his current club until the end of 2009.

It is quite a coup for Inter, as Coutinho had also been courted by the likes of Real Madrid and Barcelona.

In fact, Vasco had reported Real to FIFA for what they claimed were “very tempting but illegal offers” to the player's family in February.

In other news, they have reduced their youth contingent by selling 20-year-old Uruguayan Sebastian Cesar Helios Ribas to French club Dijon.

He first caught their eye in the Viareggio youth tournament in 2006 and in his first season with the Primavera side scored 17 goals in 23 games.

Ribas spent half of last term in Serie B on loan at Spezia and made one Serie A appearance for Inter.

That's goal.com bs for you, C4 is more reliable, 10million euro is way 2 much for a 16 year old. Don't start believing the hype because in Brazil & Argentina, everyone is the next 'something' and they end up being Saviola, I hope this is not the case.

The mistake was by Goal, once again. Look at the first sentence. The symbol next to the 10 is a euro symbol:

signs on at the San Siro for a fee said to be in the region of €10m.

They go on to later explain it's in Brazilian currency, but that's a slip on their part, big time.

Strange how there is no hype around this and people aren't labeling him as the next Kaka or Pato.

If he really has potential, the last thing he needs is to be compared to Kaka as it mounts the pressure on him, so it's positive. Pato hasn't done anything yet so I don't why they call players "the new Pato". It's like calling players "the new Balotelli".
