This doesn't make sense to me. He'll be a free agent in the summer of 2023. Why should Inter pay anything for a free agent then?
Because otherwise Atalanta won't release him on 18 free loan. And only for 6 months ( end of this season), it won't be easy to assess his physical condition. It's something like insurance. If everything is ok with him, they have secured at least 22 mln., which is not bad.

teams will often ask the player, as a pre-condition of a dry loan, to sign a one-year extension to ensure there's no funny business

Because we agree with Atalanta that we pay them for Gosens. It's just a masked permanent transfer. We just postpone when the payment occurs and when he gets into our books as an asset.

And yeah, probably there is one year extension to his deal with Atalanta for that odd scenario the option doesn't get triggered to obligation (I assume the trigger is Inter getting to CL).

Been away for 4 days in the mountains and look at this pleasant surprise!

GOSENS TO INTER A DONE DEAL: DATE OF HIS MEDICAL REVEALED

Inter have finalised the signing of Robin Gosens from Atalanta and according to La Gazzetta dello Sport, the Germany international will undergo his medical with the Serie A champions by tomorrow.

Gosens is set to join Inter on loan with an obligation to buy for €25-27m, including add-ons.

The 27-year-old has rejected an offer from Newcastle United to move to San Siro. The Premier League strugglers had reportedly offered a €3.5m-a-year deal, but Gosens opted to sign Inter’s €3m-a-year contract instead. Yesterday’s meeting in Milan between Inter’s chiefs and Atalanta CEO Luca Percassi unlocked the deal and Gosens is now ready to join Inter.

The Germany international is currently out of action with a thigh injury. He played his last Serie A match on September 25 and has only collected eight appearances across all competitions this season.

Gosens joined Atalanta from Heracles Almelo for just €1m in 2017 and the 27-year-old has gone on to score 29 goals and deliver 21 assists in 157 games with La Dea.

Thanks for not letting him join Newcastle! PIF needs to buy the club if they want to have Gosens LOL.

This is great news guys, we`re getting the best man in the leage on that position, in his prime.

Was expecting they go cheap for Kostic but he`s not Serie A schooled (yet). Having Gosens that can instantly impact is a bonus that justifies creating such a deal.

Gosens` current market value is €35M and we are getting him on a massive discount + we don`t have to pay until what, 2023?

Grande Ausilio & Marotta!

It seems that the transfer figure is not final yet.

Romano just posted that "Inter will have a final meeting to sign Robin Gosens for €22m plus bonuses."

It's something around 30m disguised as 22m. Typical Italian deal :D Bonuses are rarely disclosed.

So it's an obligation not option.
