I think Veron has been playing well enough, the problem is the he slows down all our counterattacks to a crawl sometimes

I don't get it, what did Toldo do wrong last night? He was faultless on every goal! Yes he punched the ball away a couple of times, but why not, better that than going to hold it and fail!

I just don't get it...

If Cordoba is to blame for the 1st goal, that would be 30% of the blame. 70% goes to Ze Maria who just stood there watching Montella... All the Eurosport commentators agree with me.

It seems everybody has missed that we should have had 2 pens. Ferrari also handled a header from burdisso and tripped oba. No justice in this world.

well i think we playeda a good game, but we should blame the ref on anything,we were up 3-1 and we should have scored more or defended better, refrees are always going to count against for no reason,so we just have to play better defensivly becasue in attack we are excellent(touches wood)

The handball was no penalty at all, because the player had his arms completely at his body. The arms are a party of someones body and they can´t be removed, so these rules has some flaws. And in this particular case, the defender did exactly what he has to do; keeping his arm next to his body.

Toldo looks generally insecure, and the episode where Burdisso covers the ball and Toldo refuses to run out and get it, is worrying. That´s the episode where I guess most people think of, Frisko.

Ze Maria is at 100% fault for the first goal, because he completely fails with the zonal defence. Those who know what zonal defence consists of realises this.

I still don´t agree that Dellas was offside.

roma third goal was offside on dallas wo made the pass to de rossi
Those pics shows it pretty clearly that Dellas wasn´t offside when Totti? made that cross. Dellas foot is in level with our defensive line. It doesn´t matter if he´s (Dellas in this case) upper body is in offside.

That´s what i think...

I don´t agree with that either.

Don´t get my wrong here, Ze Maria is to blame for that goal, but not at 100%. J. Zanetti is as responsible because he completely failed to cover Mancini who made that cross to Montella.

Anywayz, just noticed that e have conceeded 3rd most goals in Serie A ->

Juventus 10-1 and us 11-10. :scared:

Can we resolve our huge defensive problems before it´s too late?

if u look closely to the photos u would notice dellas is on offside position look to his right leg it obvious man

the only nigative thing in these photos is that they don't show the ball clearly ( which may raise the question did totti played the foul or not in the second photo )

if u compared totti positivism (the way he stand ) in both photos ( after zoom it of course ) u would noticed that he crossed the ball

We've conceded 10 while Juve have only conceded 1

Our defence is in shambles

I knew it was but I didn't think it was this bad and Juve's was that good. The defense is definately a HUGE problem and Mancini really needs to get it fixed. Nice football is nice but risking it so much that we are bleeding goals as such due to lack of defensive cover from the mid and defence just isn't making it worthwhile...

In all fairness one has to look at the fact that Inter has also scored the second most goals so far. ;) And hence saying our defence is horrible is ignoring the mistakes Mancini did tactically in his lineup by playing with no real winger and Recoba out of position. This made us look worse than we really were.

With this said our sole problem so far has been the the ten goals let in. Again one has to take further two factors into consideration: This was only our ninth official match under Mancini and we´ve had to face tricky teams so far such as Roma and Chievo away, Parma and Palermo at home...

I think guys our defense should do one thing, please let in goals but as long as u make sure we have scored the same number plus one.

I dont care if we won the rest of our games with 5-4 or 7-6 as long as we win them. I think still the problem with us is finding specific mechanism for the mid to cover the defense.

by teh way guys yesterday I downloaded this game, their tie wasnt an offside, I moved the curser back and forth and when the ball left the feet of Totti or whomever Dallas wasnt offside, but for sure it was a Penalty for Martins and Panealty for roma with COmbiasso tackling their guy at the box left corner,

watching the 3rd goal, I dont know why Capitano stand still watching the game and he could have covered left but Burdisso felt down and things went out of control and we have Capitano and i think Veron also in our box taking pictures of Del Rossi scoring.

That tackle by Ferrari on Martins was a clear penalty. The tv replays showed Martins switching the ball to his other foot, and then Ferrari kicked him in the foot and he fell. The linesman wasn't that far, and if the referee was awake he would've caught it.

The Cambiasso incident wasn't rightfully a penalty, Mancini took a dive when Cambiasso actually was trying to tackle him. If I am not mistaken, Mancini took a booking for diving.

I also agree that the ref was a bit pro-romanista. He was giving them all the 50/50 situations and was allowing his darling Totti to leave the pitch, get treatment and come back to take a free kick. I guess everyone is afraid of the romanisa fans' retaliation, I think our fans are more than capable to play that game too!!!

I missed the Sherif outburst!!! I hope someone has it and could PM it to me.

To all the members who read my post:

I am sorry if I offended anyone here, i still dont know how did i manage to write all this. Since i joined this forum, i never said such stuff to anyone and thats why i dont know why did it happen all of a sudden.
Since i am moderating and adminstrating a couple of football forums, i know how to keep my temper and thats why it is funny here because i am the one who crossed the limits!

I thank Han for editing my post, and both Johnny and Cool Emre for their efforts trying to calm me down.
I dont know what else i can say but thinking about it today, i really couldnt believe i wrote such things. It is much better to come here 2 days after the match then directly after it.

Tommi asked me for the reason behind all this, i really dont know what was it, i was just frustrated from lots of things, but im glad its all over now.

Hamed and IluvInter, i am glad you guys missed it :)

Keep the faith, Forza Inter.

Just a few short notes on the game. Although I’m sure most of you have covered them already.

To me the Roma - Inter 1st half was the worst 45min I have witnessed in a long long time. Looked like 3rd division football from England. No harmony, no balance, no proper game plan (at least it didn’t work) and no width. These accusations are related to BOTH teams. Anyhow, I was shocked to witness such lackluster and thoughtless display from both teams!

To my understanding the only good thing which came out of Martins injury was the fact that we went back to a 4-4-2 formation. Hence a better game of football was soon evident.
Mancini did state after the game that Chinito was suppose to track back and obviously help out our midfield. But as we all know Chino is not the right man for this kind of game plan. I sincerely hope that we don’t start with that formation again.

Some people are not happy with Javier's performance. Well, fair enough. But as we all know playing out of position when you already lack a bit of form isn’t the easiest tasks in the world. Especially as you are faced with Roma in their own backyard. Yet considering these issues I believe his performance was ok.
I was not impressed with Ze Maria's performance. The guy is more suitable in the midfield as he is way to attack mined. Not only he wasn’t covering Montella when he scored, but he also didn’t do much when he managed to track back. His challenge on Montella (If you can call it a challenge that is) was of a typical mild challenge coming from a midfielder.

Just like myself I think that even Mancini is not too sure about our CD. Something needs to be done and that, pretty soon. Our defence is as shaky as Gobbi’s defence last year, if not even worse. Which makes you wonder how thing would have been like if Adani had still been with us!

9. Inter 5 1 4 0 11-10 7 (Is not good enough)

I must disagree. Totti was advancing with the ball alone hence Capitano HAD to forget Mancini and try to challenge Totti. As clever player Totti of course passed the ball for Mancini who was free (and it became 3 vs 2 attack for Roma). If Capitano had kept marking Mancini Totti would have came to the box and scored himself.

Like Jimmy said, it was Ze Maria who screwed up the zonal defense. Burdisso and Cordoba defended their zones properly but Ze Maria's zone was incomprehensibly empty it costed a gol for us.

Apart from Ze Maria, I would also like ask why the hell Totti was advancing alone in our defensive third. I think one of midfielders (Cambiasso?) should have been challenging Totti.

Don´t you dare to disagree with me! :finger:

Totti sure had to kept covered by someone, but i think Burdisso should´ve done that instead of Zanetti since they were quite center of the goal. That´s why i don´t agree that Ze Maria is 100% fault for that goal.

It wasn't offside! But yeah, De Rossi should have got yellow at least for that tackle and you should have got penalty for Ferrari's tackle...

First goal
After watching the replay again, I decided to review my comments on the first goal that we conceded (In case you don't know, I think I blamed Burdisso, Cordoba and JZ). Actually, I wouldn't wanna point the players for their mistakes since finger-pointing them will not solve the problem. The whole team's defensive manouver was wrong and it ultimately resulted in Inter conceding the goal. But anyway, I think the guilty parties are (In order of sequence):
  • 1) Cambiasso. You can see that he was the closest to Totti before JZ closed in on Totti. But he failed to mark the Roma captain properly, causing JZ to get out of his zone and mark Totti.

    2) Javier Zanetti. He failed to stop Totti from passing it to Mancini. Another thing, he shouldn't have left his zone to challenge Totti since Burdisso, the player assigned to that zone, should be the one who challange Totti. Furthermore, Totti had no player in front of him (Directly) and thus Burdisso can afford to leave his zone.

    3) Cordoba. I am sure with a more proper timing and jumping, he would have been able to clear the ball.

    4) Ze Maria. Perhaps the biggest culprit. He was too advanced and leave Montella alone in his zone. Allowed Montella to get in front of him and thus ZM couldn't intercept the cross or block Montella's shot.
Third goal
The footage that I have, couldn't tell whether Dellas was offside or not. But I think what Tommi said was true. According to the new rule, you have to see the players' limbs, not body. And Dellas' foot/leg was clearly on the same line as Cordoba's. 2T: What was decisive was not Dellas' right but it was his left foot, which stays in line with Cordoba's feet. Thus the goal should have stood. The guilty players are (Again, in order of sequnce):
  • 1) Mancini (Our coach). This, I am not too sure. But if he asked the team to do a man-marking for set-pieces and assigned Cordoba to mark Dellas, it was very wrong. Burdisso should have marked Dellas and Cordoba should have marked Mido, due to their respective physical sizes.

    2) Cordoba. Mismatch or not, he should have prevented Dellas from heading the ball down.

    3) Burdisso. For not being able to intercept Dellas' headed pass and leaving his target, Mido, alone.

    3) J.Zanetti/Stankovic. It is kinda vague who was supposed to mark De Rossi. Both players stood close to De Rossi but in the end, it was Stankovic who marked him.
All in all, the whole team and coach should be blamed for last night defensive disaster. It is too risky to play with just Cambiasso as the defensive player in the middle and the defence were just not tight enough and there were lapse of concentrations.

Penalties
Martins' claim was definitely legitimate and I felt the referee was very harsh in ignoring it. I forget the ref's and linesman's position so I can't say they missed it or not. Mancini's (Roma's player) claim is legit as well. Although it was just over the penalty box line, Mancini was in the area and Cambiasso caught his foot, not the ball. It was a penalty. I guess that makes it even.

Overview of defence
What should Mancini do to prevent such disaster again? I believe that he should never field start an offensive line-up again. It is OK to use all Recoba, Adriano and Martins again but only when one of them enters as a substitute when the game is still in a deadlock or if we are losing. Start with just the 2 of them. Another thing, I would recommend that Mancini should stop rotating the defence until we start getting clean-sheets again. We need to give them time, continuity and consistency first. I believe that:

Favalli - Materazzi - Cordoba - Javier Zanetti *From left to right

is our current best back-line and we should stick with them unless they are very tired or unavaliable. I have no idea of Coco's condition but he would replace Favalli as soon as he has a full-match fitness under his belt. I didn't put Ze Maria as the right back because even though he is very good at over-lapping and crossing, Javier Zanetti offers more security at that spot. There is no reason why this backline can't be successful. I think they just need more time and less tinkering.

Sherif
It's all right dude. All of us has their own moment of madness. The shambolic defensive performance must have acted as a catalyst for your outburst as well. You have been a fantastic member to have and I know that that was just a one-off situation. ;)
