Han are you sure you wouldn't rather Burdisso-Matrix? Cordoba just doesn't seem in form at the moment. I know Burdisso Matrix aren't too fast, but can we afford any more mistakes? And is it more likely Cafe would make them, or Burdisso?

Of course. On current form, Burdisso is much better than Cordoba. But the defence that I prefer is the best one potentially (At a short term). Cordoba and Matrix got us 15 clean sheets in 01/02 I believe and that is quite a good record. They complement each other and thus I think we should give them time.

Of course the 2 of them, plus Javier Zanetti, has been playing together for so long with Inter but we have to remember that they need to adjust back to the 4-men-defence after playing 3-men-defence under Zac last season. What's more, they haven't adjust to the midfield and the new attack-till-you-die tactic. Look at the Juve defence of this season for example, they did not change their defence at all for Serie A matches this season (Zambro - Canna - Thuram - Zebina).

Off-topicly though, I would actually prefer a 2 complete central defenders rather than a classic stopper and sweeper in our team. Someone like Carvalho & Terry or Maldini & Nesta. If only we bought Mexes and Carvalho. :(

So right now you'd play Burdisso-Matrix?

Of course I'm not saying Burdisso is better than Cafe, he has to prove himself yet. Just that at the moment I'd try Matrix Burdisso.

I wouldn't pick the most in-form player at the moment. This may sound strange. But it's even more strange to leave Cordoba on the bench. :D Right now, I'd settle in giving the 4 players that I have chosen the stability first. Burdisso is still inexperienced and his time can come later when the defence has stabilized. Right now there are so many uncertainties that I would tried with the proven ones and let them settle first rather than trying the inexperienced Burdisso.

Logically Burdisso and Materazzi should start and Cordoba should be benched. But people keep forgetting what Handoyo just pointed out. They complimented each other so well in the past. What´s strange to me is why Mancini is changing so much. The pecking order shouldn´t be so undecided IMO. But I guess the Boss is trying to find out who is the best partnership.

I´m a little dissapointed not to see Matrix play more than Cordoba. Because it seems to me he rates the later highest.

But we have to be patient. Soon enough our coach will have decided his two preferred central defenders and then we won´t concede as many goals and start collecting clean sheets. Also speed isn´t everything for a central defender. Look at Gamarra who said it´s about being positioned well and getting to the ball first. He always performed well for us...

What is this? Cordoba benched? We need one fast central defender and Cordoba is clearly much faster than Burdisso (without speaking Matrix). But Cordoba-Materazzi pair sounds reasonable. Like Han said, they've been playing Inter for some time so they're used to each other. The problem is the midfield which doesn't support enough our defence. (yeah, it's not just that, defence hasn't been itself, Cafe-Matrix...).

We've conceded 10 while Juve have only conceded 1

Our defence is in shambles

I knew it was but I didn't think it was this bad and Juve's was that good. The defense is definately a HUGE problem and Mancini really needs to get it fixed. Nice football is nice but risking it so much that we are bleeding goals as such due to lack of defensive cover from the mid and defence just isn't making it worthwhile...

well, the difference between us and juve is only '0'.. :dielaugh: :dielaugh:

as for Sherif, you love inter and that made u mad..
so it's a sin that we all have :))
I believe I speak for most of the people here that they can understand and forgive you..

We cannot compare the cuper team with this mancini outfit. Back then we were playing with 2 grafters in midfield CZ and Di Biagio. Which offered much cover at the back. And also Cuper's style also contributed to the defensive success. Even back then i dont rate Cordoba and Materazzi highly due to the fact that they failed to stopped the big teams ala Juve and Milan.

I agree with han we should pick our best defence and stick with them I just disagree that burdisso isn't part of that team I would go for:

JZ-Cordoba-Burdisso-Favalli-Coco

or

JZ-Burdisso-Matrix-Cordoba

We have to pick 1 defense and stick with them we need continuety at the back.

Most of the goals we conceded so far were because of individual mistakes (Mihajlovic, Cordoba, Materazzi, Favalli, Ze Maria, Capitano, Pasquale, they all got their share of the blame).

This can only improve. We can hardly blame Mancio for that as well.

Apart for the Roma game, and the Vieri problem, Mancio is doing brilliant. I never see Inter playing this good in 15 years, and he's only been around a couple of months. :star:

I wasnt Inter fan since 15 years but I can tell you that I tried my best not to miss a single match since 4 years till now and I cant agree more on what you are saying,

Cannavaro said it the otehr day that inter cant succeed with so much changes and I agree we need to settle down for at least 2 seasons so we will see the best results coming, I think what made us so impatient that we see great performance and cause of episodes we are not capitalizing on that performance, I agree Mancini did a great job and its only a matter of time before this group of players becomes a letghal team.

Forza Inter..

I sorta disagree Frisko. Yeah some goals have been down to some individual mistakes. But the team as a whole isn't defending well, especially with such an offensive minded midfield. The midfield is lacking in helping out the defense and the wingbacks are sometimes to offensive and on counters especially the team ends up paying for it.

Frisko u practically mentioned the whole inter defence in that line lol.

Lets not forget Toldo, before you all get offensive. Let me say why.

Yes he only made a couple of mistakes. And probably 95 percent of the goals werent his fault. But this is the problem. What makes the likes of Kahn, Buffon (even tho i dont rate him) so good? Its not maknig least mistakes, the best thing is being able to make saves on some of the hardest ones ever.

I cant remember the last time i said, wow if toldo didnt save that it was a definet goal. (against Palermo he pushed it on the crossbar, but thats cause he was out in no mans land).

E.g. Lets say the juve defence screwed up and gave the ball away and it was a 1-1 situation with the striker and Buffon. If the ball goes in we say, that was the defences fault, right? But lets say he saves it its a different story. Thats what im sayin, the goals wont be blamed on him but his not made a fantastic save on any ofthem, some he didnt even attempt.

What im sayin is, he makes a few msitakes, all goal keepers are entitled to it, but the problem is he doesnt make upfor it. The goals were NOT his fault, but im sure if he was how he use to be he would of stopped at least some and we would of been admiring him and complemnting his saves... remember Valencia in champions league?

This is what makes a good keeper, being able to stop somethings that look impossible. And Toldo just doesnt have that, too me his an average keeper atm.

BDragon2k2, I know what you're saying, but really, if you look at the goals, they actually came after one of our guys' mistakes... always different players!

The defensive aspect of our midfield will improve with time. I guess it's harder to improve that compared to improving your attacking game. You need to be very confident and aware about movement without the ball to improve your defensive game.

About Toldo, I still trust our hero keeper. Not a good start of the season, but hey, even Capitano started kinda bad, so you see why I'm not worrying too much? ;)

I agree with a lot of what you're saying Frisko, but how many goals are scored without a player making a mistake. Surely if nobody made mistakes then there would be no goals. Every goal scored comes due to a mistake, no matter how small.

Basically our defensive unit isn't the best, but on paper it should be doing a lot better than it is. I think Mancini will sort this out. The defence just needs support from the midfield and needs to iron out a few communication errors.

I don't think it's up to Mancio to do a lot Giorgio. We're not talking minor mistakes here, but real bummers! Usually the ability of a striker has the better of the defender. But if you look at many goals we conceded, we could have avoided them easily.

That's not up to Mancio to fix, only the players can.

Yes Veron took the shot but it clearly went right off of Adriano!
