I think he did the right thing on that one-on-one chance, tried to put the ball underneath the keeper. He had defenders closing in from both sides, not much time and space to bend it or round the keeper.
Own goal was avoidable if he had more awareness.

Honestly, very disappointed with him today.

He started the best way possible and that usually gives him a huge confidence boost. He got his man marker on a booking after a minute, converted the PK... and then nothing. He fell apart.

There was no movement as usual.
There was no urgency to attack his man and get him on a second card [which should have happened with that handball, Lukaku scores a brace with a PK, they play with 10 men and possibly scores another and everyone here rides his cock lol]

The own goal is just a moment of tough luck, if you see a ball there you have no clue where the goal is and where the ball is headed at so your instict says to clear it. But Lukaku's right foot shouldn't be used for touching a football.

The chance he missed is a typical one for him, we're getting used to it, but this one may haunt him exactly because the Cup losing own goal followed. Season starts soon after this so perhaps he won't have too much time to get disappointed for this and lose confidence. But ideally, we promote this season he's had and find someone to offload him and his fat contract to but no one can really offer us 60+ for this guy. Maybe Arsenal. He's not going to have better production in the future so if there's a player to sell to have funds, it's this guy. Especially if Conte leaves. I cannot believe that many will have the same patience with him.

We obviously don't have a great midfield apart form Nicolo of course but with Gagliardini- Brozovic or Xavi-Iniesta behind him, he should be way more effective in 1vs1 , too often this season he failed to beat the goalkeeper.

There are moments where you need to be freaking clutch regardless of the team, the stadium, the coach. Be the guy that people can rely on in specific occasions. I don't think he has that in him.

Is it really bad luck though? He almost ALWAYS shoots right where the goalie is, its one thing to miss a one on one when the goalie makes a nice save, its another when you feed the ball directly to the goalie.

I am not taking specifically about that shot, im taking about him in this match in general and the whole scenario, he scored a lot harder goals yet in a game like this doesnt go his way.

Not even a lucky deflection or it rebounds to him or whatever and then the goal the other team scores is going out yet his touch pushes it towards his own goal. Some teams and players do get that lucky bounce or shot in general.
