Eto'o WAS half our side last year.

But you're right, we will see 31 August.

But you guys should take a different stance, a different attitude to Inter situation. You gotta understand we have to balance the books so getting rid of Eto'o's contract is a big boost in that aspect. You gotta understand the quality of this team is going to get lower. That's the premise, that's the undeniable fact which is going to happen in this summer. After these facts are acknowledged and understood, it's much easier to continue forward.

True, without Eto'o we are going to save money, but some of you fail to realize that he was the reason we came second and even made it so far in the UCL.. Someone or a group of players have to fill the void.. Exactly, what is the point of such a drastic cut, with so little time for replacement and adjustment? Will it do us any good to be FFP ready but 7th in the league with a squad full of average players? I will never ever give Branca or Moratti credit for this sale. It does the club no good in the long run or short

What is the point? The point is we save over 80m€ over three years time. That is the point. We aren't making enough money to sustain our current wage structure. How many times this has to be go through in Inter financial situation thread/in this thread? :D And don't answer with "we should get rid of Pandev, Mariga, Muntari, Rivas" because we've tried and so far we've able to get rid of Mariga. And even those all combined do not match Eto'o's salary or his transfer fee.

We will not be saving over 80 million euros.. Eto'o will have a replacement. Not to mention the fact that we will be losing 37 goals and 13 assists.. Eto'o was worth so much more than we are saving or in fact being paid, if we are to compare him to the rest of the squad.. There's so much more that this guy brought to the squad that we will be losing..

It's not like the management doesn't know that, what do you think? They're doing the best thing possible to be done, as early as possible. As great as Eto'o is, we will never get 30 million for him next year. We're trying to make the best possible deal out of him. I just hope someone good will come, cause he can never be replaced.

According to this source eto'o has decided to not take the payment of august from inter in order to make the transfer easier . This means that inter has saved 884k euros just by this.

WTF just think it this way . We fucking payed all the transfer of castaignos with approximately the amount of money you give to eto'o for the 3 summer months when we don't even play

Hey All,

Am new to this fourm......Am An Interista to the core and would like to give you my opinion on the Etoo situation.

To me Etoo is a true champion......I have followed his career from the beginning when he was a young prospect at Real Madrid (who did not see his worth)......To Mallorca where he was the shinning light in a mediocre team....To Barcelona where he scored over 100+ goals in 5 seasons winning pretty much everything there was to offer and scoring in most of the decisive games. Being an Inter Fan who has a love for the round ball game in gereral, I wished that one day someone like him would come to Inter.....And It happened......

Yes we were getting rid of our main gaol threat in Ibra, a player who carried our attack when he was with us......But I knew we were getting the better end of the deal with Etoo. I was excited because Etoo has qualities about him that Ibra could never understand (no disrespect to him at all)..I am talking about his mentality, attitude, passion and drive to win as well as undoubted skill and killer instinct for goals....

He played as a winger under Mourinho and found himself sometimes as a left back due to the responsibility of tracking back....For those who say that is not a sacrifice for the team coming from someone who is used to being the main striker.... I dont know what is. Yeah he did not score as many goals as he and we would have liked but the one that stuck in my mind most was his winner at Stamford bridge which won us the tie against Chelsea and broke the hodoo of Inter crashing out in the second round of the CL. The foundation of belief was formed right there and we had a historic season winning the trebble. Last season we all know what happened - Injuries, bad coaching decisions etc and he carried the team with 37 goals in all competitions helping us win the World club cup, Coppa Italia and almost a famous comeback in the league. Yes we did not win the Scudetto but or back to back CL but he was the shinning light for Inter last season where so many others did not live up to expectations.

If it is indeed true that Etoo is leaving for Russia like the reports say then I say it is a sad day for me and Inter. You can't replace someone like Etoo. Even though he has only been here for the shortest time he has given his all in every aspect on and off the pitch. I hoped that he would stay at Inter until he retired because I know he can play on for at least 3 more years and still be the same old Etoo.

Having said all of this I also understand the financial situation that we currently find oursleves in. I dont want to go into it but if it necessary for us to sell Etoo to survive then so be it. I just wish there was some other way to do it.......

I salute you Etoo and thank you for everything you have done for my beloved Inter......Good luck in the future and to me you will always be remered as an Inter great......

Peace.

Eto'o could be scoring 100 goals and providing 50 asssist, but it doesn't do us much good if we finish second because the rest of our team isn't as good. When u have a 30yr old player like Eto'o you have 2 options.

• take advantage of his talents, spend big and build a team around him and go for the CL. A player like Eto'o can win you everything with the right team (and coach) around him.
• if you are unable to do that, you sell the 30yr for a big price and free up his wages.

We weren't going to build a team that could stand up to Barca & co. anytime soon, so not much use when all that Eto'o can win u is 2nd place.

You can't say unless you know what the bonus conditions actually are. Plus an assumption is made by the buying and selling parties that there's s good chance the player won't perform another 37 goal, 13 assist season. I'm not even going to go into the impact that wages play.

Even if what You say proves to be true and our quality will drop this summer, it doesn't mean that things should be this way.
I understand Your opinion, but please stop telling other people what to do, or how to think.

I'm a fan and balancing the books is the least of my problems.
Giving up on quality should be IMO the LAST thing in this world a club like ours should do.

I want to see my Inter on the top of the world ,competing with Barcelona and United.
If MM can't or doesn't want to support this club so much anymore, than I expect him to be honest and look for alternative solutions.
I hope he still loves Inter that much, as he has proven so many times in the past through his enormous sacrifices ,that he will not accept for this club to become a big team only on paper.

We shall see where we stand on the first of September.

Its still the biggest fee any 30+ year old has ever come for. So calling it crap is really unfair imho. Might be less then we would wish for but its hardly crap.

Put the necessary pieces around Eto'o to go for 1st, the second choice should not even be an option! We are Inter, a supposedly elite team, not Genoa or even Napoli -- where such actions would be tolerable.

If we sell Eto'o, Moratti better shut his mouth about us being any sort of champions or us being any sort of contenders for the UCL, for Serie A will be a mission without Eto'o, much less the UCL..

Ibrahimovic is 7 months younger than Samu.. and had a crappier season and joined for a similar fee +/- 5 million euros..

That's exactly where you go wrong. "We are Inter, a supposedly elite team, not Genoa or even Napoli" Yes, we are bigger than those, but we are making losses every year. And we can't do that anymore, or we become like Genoa and Napoli.

Raul Duke made an excellent point that we need to take the option 2 because we don't have a choice. We can't build a great squad around Eto'o, because we are broke. Hell, we are so broke that we have to sell Eto'o and not build a squad around him. That's how broke we are.

But I'm not happy with the conditions of the deal. Too low transfer fee.

Economically speaking, because we are selling him for money problems i dont think a 5 million differance will matter that much, because his salary alone puts us 10 million less every year so you sell him for 25 and you save the cost of his salary which could be saved to pay our existing salaries, offcourse 25 million is bullshit considering players like Falcao are being sold for 40 but you have to factor in Age as well.

If were are to avoid making money mistakes like this in the future, we have to buy players after really thinking if that player will benefit us at all, squad has to me no more than 20-22 players with 3-5 players from our youth and salaraies should never exceed 3-4 million for any player. If we sell Eto'o and dont improve upong those things then we sold him for nothing, we would have been better off being more competitive with him and losing money.

Edit: I think this is the problem as well, If we sell Pandev, Muntari, Santon, Chivu, Rivas we could have easily kept Eto'o, you could afford to keep a player like him if surplus players are sold.

Here's the thing though, if the numbers are to be believed, selling Eto'o doesn't even put us anywhere near breaking even.. But it leaves us even worse off as a squad.. Plus a replacement for Eto'o still needs to be found.. We're taking such a big hit in quality, for what? A few extra million which Eto'o could possibly bring us through UCL bonuses..
