10 years of FIFMessi has certainly lost speed. Still has the quick burst but players are catching back up quickly. Very different to watching Neymar, who is lighting quick but also is leaving players totally behind.

10 years of FIFAguero's case is really something. Here's a player who 2 years ago was clearly one of the best strikers in the world. Clearly.
Now on his club team, he's getting benched for a brazilian kid who hasn't done shit and benched on Argentina NT for a Boca player. I don't know what the f happened.

FIF Special OnesIt makes no sense. He still looks good when he plays IMO.
Pep is weird about strikers, he's had problems with Eto'o, Ibra, and now doesn't favor Aguero so that's one thing. Higauin and Icardi being preferred to him is one thing, even though I thought he was a better striker than Higauin when he was in top form. However, both Bauza and now Sampaoli have benched him for scrubs. Why even call him?

10 years of FIFUgh Messi - Argentina can't seem to click with him out there even though they were miserable without him so far in qualifying. Although in the last world cup they made it to the final, it had little to do with Messi - di maria and mascherano were the studs in that tournament - which is tough for me to say because I love the argentina NT but don't like either of those 2 players much.
No coach has been able to get him to really play team ball in the national team and argentina have always had too many attackers with similar physiques and traits (messi, aguero, tevez, lavezzi) and not enough creativity from their midfield. Imagine a young aimar, d'alessandro or riquelme in the mid feeding the attackers.
I'd play a 4-3-3 with mascherano as DM, pastore and banega or gaitan (for now) as CMs with messi and dybala out wide and icardi in the striker position. Or if you want to lockdown opponents then have mascherano, biglia and one of pastore, gaitan or banega. I dont like mascherano as a CB - keep otamendi and garay there.

10 years of FIFWhile I agree that the current Argentina set-up with Messi trying to do everything isn't working, I think your recollection is misleading. Messi scored winners against Bosnia and Iran, scored twice against Nigeria, provided the assist for the winner against Switzerland, and was Argentina's best attacker against Belgium. Admittedly he didn't do much against Netherlands and Germany, but it was hardly him having nothing to do with Argentina's run.

Aguero is a shooting star while Gabriel is a rising star.
I don't consider Aguero a reserve just yet but he's been unconvincing for most of the time and he hasn't been able to play others in like he used to while Gabriel can do that, so I guess that's why Guardiola is picking him. He's betting he'll form a team for the long-term.
I'm glad Milan spent as much as they did on strikers because I think Aguero will be available within 1 or 2 years. He's not too old, so it's possible he can still turn things around.
