I thought he nailed this thing from a tactical standpoint early on in the match, and then waited too long to pull the plug when things went sour in the second half. We looked toothless for about 35 minutes in the second half and he didn't do much to fix it.

Left Brozovic on way too long, and I didn't really understand subbing Candreva for Eder. Would have rather put Eder on the left and taken D'Ambrosio off. Murillo was far too involved in the attack, which I contribute to a lack of involvement by Candreva and Brozovic on the right.

Will be interested to see how he approaches the Empoli game with Perisic suspended. I'm guessing a switch to the back four with Eder for Perisic.

Another crappie performance from Pioli. Ruined this game for playing Candreva&Perisic against Lazio, both were useless today.

Also, three at the back sucked, Dambro shouldn't play. Looks like he started to show his limitations.

Pioli did his best today. He had the fucking balls to change the formation because he knowed that Juve would dominate us. Juve was confused sawing Inters new formation.

I think he did fine. The big issues were Candreva being too deep, or not being adventurous because of the early yellow.

When you're playing Juve, you have to take your chances and Inter didn't.

It's common sense; take off the defender for the striker, not the winger, when you're trailing by a goal.

Use your brain

PIOLI: "ALL OUR FOCUS ON EMPOLI"
The boss looks ahead to Sunday's match at the Meazza: "We'll take the performance from last week and move on. Inter must get back to winning ways"

APPIANO GENTILE – Stefano Pioli was keen to stress that Inter are thinking about nothing but Empoli and a return to winning ways on Sunday when he sat down to preview the game at a press conference today.

"We've been focusing solely on our football and the jobs we have to do," he told the gathered journalists at Suning Training Centre. "We've moved on from last Sunday, from the result and from the talking points. We matched a very good team. Our work is paying off but of course small details can determine whether a match is won or lost.

"Our performance should give us the incentive to get going again. Inter must get back to winning ways.

"We need to stay focused at all times because every ball could be decisive. We're going to need to pick up lots and lots of points in the second half of the season so we can't afford to get anything wrong.

“I've seen plenty of desire and determination and those are big positives we must build on. There's no problem on a mental level but it's up to us to prove that on Sunday.

"The lads have cut themselves off from everything that's gone on this week. It's not the first time we've seen something like this when big clubs are involved. I said what I had to say on the matter after the game. Since Monday we've been focused on Empoli."

The Nerazzurri will be missing some key players this weekend but Pioli is adamant that Inter have the strength in depth to make up for any absences

"Icardi is an important player for us, as are Perisic and Brozovic, but now we have a chance to show our quality as a squad.

“It's not true that we don't have a replacement for Icardi: with Pinamonti, Eder, Palacio and Barbosa I have plenty of options. We know what each of them can do. We can play with a traditional centre forward or with a more mobile player. Eder and Palacio both have great movement, for example. It depends on the game and how our opponents set up."

Pioli went on to underline the importance of Sunday's fixture and reiterate that Inter's destiny lies in their own hands.

"This game against Empoli is really important. We must be fired up for it and switched on if we want to start winning again and go on another run.

"We can decide our own fate: there are 15 matches left to play and we must win as many of them as possible. There's not much difference between us and the sides at the very top.

“Defeats hurt but it's precisely when you lose a game that you need to show your togetherness. I expect to see a reaction tomorrow."

I dont know whether this is real or fake but, apparently Pioli put a motivational paper in the wall of the gym of the training centre saying: "13 more wins and we are in the Champions League"

Yeah but it's 13 out of 15 with Roma and Napoli games. So he better have one in his office and maybe just maybe he won't start putting in Palacio in games we need to score.

Pioli to Sky: “We played as a team despite important absences – winning 12 of 14, should get us to Champions League”

Inter coach Stefano Pioli spoke with Sky after the victory against Empoli:

“We played as a team despite important absences. It is important to have the basic concepts and right attitude. The league is at the highest level, we will try to win all matches. We did the numbers, winning 12 of 14, should get us to Champions League. We know it is not going to be easy, but nothing is impossible and we will try it.”

The reaction of Palacio? “Do not bother to ask me, he’s a professional guy. Right now everyone wants to improve, he believed that he could have done better, it was a tense match. He has not been disrespectful to anyone, he’s always thinking of the team, and that Rodrigo did. He wanted to convert more, but we will have time to work. The anger of Palacio comes because this week we covered the mistakes made against Juventus and we repeated them today. There is rage, we are men and we work to get the results. We have the ideal characteristics to score more goals.”

“Since my arrival I was wrong a couple of times. This week we just thought of work, we focused on each situation. There is belief that the work done will take us far. We had a very good performance tonight. I’m happy for the growth of Kondogbia, he has improved on the psycho-physical condition. There is still room for improvement on some situations, for instance today he picked up a yellow card. We knew that the Empoli defended in a strange way and we focused on certain areas to attack. Crossing for us are important situations, in Turin we did not get in the box for the cross.”

12/14  that's 85% win rate, and we'd even have a chance for scudetto if that happens.

But yet people still want a manager change to start anew  Forza Pioli! I have total faith that he will get us back to CL and lead us to glory in the coming years IF given the opportunity to continue the work he is doing!

No we don't, there's no way Rube makes any less than 85 points, they'll probably get 90.

If we win all remaining games we'll get 87 points, that's the only chance at Scudetto.

that's because, as some other users have pointed out, the gap between the best teams and low-table teams has dramatically increased.

I think the assumption is that with over 80 points we make CL. 12 Wins out of the next 14 would give us 36 points which would have us finishing the season with 81.
