. What's the point of counter attack if the remaining of the team were dead tired..?
Which is the reason why we sat back and absorbed pressure, because we simply couldn't keep up the constant pressing for the remainder of the game. A fast player would be able to bring the ball away from our half and reduce pressure on our final third while increasing the awareness required for the opposition defence. Counter attacking, or scoring from counter is only part of he job.
His presence is enough to generate a reaction from the opposition. Whether it worked or not is another question, but it is a valid strategy and is common throughout football.
