meh...Sensi has enough innate elusive skill. With more playing experience and proper coaching, he should learn to utilize it smarter and better when playing against aggresive opposition.

Not worried at all tbh.

A lot of 50/50 calls went against him in the Derby I thought he played fine and if the calls were a little bit more fair he wouldnt have looked like he lost the ball as much..... as far as the suso chance that corner routine was a disaster..... brozo kept the ball too long and both brozo and barellla made forward runs they left too much space that if sensi lost the ball it would be bad for us.

To support this, there are countless players small in stature who have made a mess of physically larger players. Fitting how Sensi likens himself to Xavi.

Looked completely toothless in attack without Sensi tbh, especially the ability to combine is way worse.

To be fair, that was also because of Brozovic having a shite game. We have 3 decent midfielders now, two of them young / inexperienced at this level. Marotta needs to dip into the January market, we need a top midfielder, a Lukaku back up and perhaps a quality RWB (though that can wait till the summer). Our bench strength is woeful, and even these level of performances cannot be sustained.

I think we should see if Lazaro is actually a flop before we run out and go buy another RWB. Candreva is serviceable against the right teams and D’Ambrosio seems to step up in the bigger games. Hopefully we can get Lazaro up to speed quickly. Him missing all of preseason really hurt.

Everything in his post screams panic buys, and we are in September.

If Barella is satisfied being benched, I am all for a new midfielder.

Well, we do need a top midfielder if we want to be relevant again. Our current roster can go far with luck and good form, just like last season. But we lack difference makers and top quality.
Godin's addition is super valuable for the mental aspect of our locker room, plus Sanchez being here, but it's not enough.

We also need a backup striker as we don't really have one. But no need to splurge here, this guy won't play more than 10 games worth of minutes. That's why I said last season I'd even take a Borriello. That's the type of player we need here, just a physical body to throw in at desperate times or against weak defenses in easy games.

After Milan and Lazio matches, Barella should be the first name to be drawn to the starting lineup, minus resting days (still young, can't cope this pace of games I suspect).

As for Sensi, he's freaking good. Would be fantastic to have one extra midfielder so when Barella-Sensi-Brozo are playing, we would still have a good one subbed in if one of those three doesn't have a good day. And vice-versa we could have one of those in the bench like we had in Lazio match. Problem was Vecino was starting (although he wasn't as bad as general consensus blamed?)

Having 4 great midfielders for 3 positions, with 2 backups is great. 4 for 3 will rotate a lot, especially if they are different types, and can be used in different situations.

He was exactly as bad as most people thought. Completely invisible except for when he passed the ball directly out of bounds a few times. Actually one of his worst matches in an Inter shirt IMO. The only reason it wasn’t worse was because it only lasted for an hour and not the full 90 minutes.

Brehme is right though, we lack a backup forward who can do what Llorente is doing at Napoli right now. I’m honestly not even against Ranocchia performing that role in emergency :awyeah:

As for midfield though, as impressive and improved as we’ve been with the addition of the new boys, there’s too large a drop in quality without our full starting trio. Valero is literally a sponge who helps us keep possession but does little else. Gagliardini is a mediocre two-way, box to box type. Joao Mario might've been alright if he wasn't a complete pussy.

Perhaps Pajo is right in saying that our backup midfielders are different types, but they simply aren't good enough at what they do - regardless of their type.

Personally, I’d like to see a “specialist” or two as backups. That is to say, I’d love a pure DM and someone capable of playing as AM in the mix. Vecino played a great game in that 2-3 derby last season as a hybrid AM, but I’m not convinced he’s a reliable solution in that position. Someone like Ljajic would be great - a technical guy who can play in AM and SS if needed. And for the DM role, a Felipe Melo type :einstein:

Having backups / rotation players who are outright AM’s or DM’s (as opposed to just having 20 CM's) would be really useful in allowing us to play in more ways. Right now, if we don’t have one of Sensi, Brozovic or Barella, we just play the same game, but with worse personnel - a crippled version of our standard gameplan.

Gimme that Tomas Locatelli & Olivier Dacourt :slick:

In case our starting midfielders need to get a rest or pick up injuries I hope Conte won’t be completely reluctant to shift Asamoah towards the center, his original position is CM after all. Biraghi is an ok back up for the left flank and I don't see how Asa would be any worse than the other options on our roster. Vecino isn’t any better than him, apart from being taller but he’s not an beast in the air either. Valero is beyond finished at this point. Gags is just very very meh.

If it's not going to be real quality like Eriksen I doubt it would do any difference getting a
midfielder in the winter. What's going on with that french kid we bought this summer? Does he play in primavera?

There were some rumurs for Matic. I wouldn't mind him for the right price.

Yes, he does, but as a 17-year I think it is highly doubtful that we will feature him in anyway, especially considering Conte's record with playing very young players (at least as far as I know). At best, he could see the bench when someone else is injured IMO.

As I said in midfield rumors thread, I think it would be a highly sensible signing. Matic was very good under Conte, Chelsea as a whole was better when he still was there; while there are some who dispute whether Conte wanted him to stay or not (I read his remarks and overall situation as a clear sign he DID want him but we can ignore that now) his performance were simply good. Considering he can leave for free in the summer, I would put my bets on him joining us in winter. Profile wise, he could take some weight of the role Brozovic is playing.
