This guy had a game just last year where he saved 19 Bayern shots on net...that he's a good shot stopper should come as a surprise to nobody. It's some of the other stuff that is a little more potentially problematic - I will never trust the ball at his feet - but not the shot stopping part of the game.

how many goals he caused due to a bad pass then ? i'm speaking about obvious blunders directly or indirectly

Well, there was this one from post-2020 COVID restart...

(You'll have to watch it on YouTube but the link is good.)

On the other hand, given all the fuckery that happens when we play Bologna as it is, I'm just waiting for Sommer/Zirkzee part due:

First goal tonight was a howler. Let’s call a spade a spade. I was very disappointed to see that mistake from him. It really reopened the match. It’s tough to say what happens if we don’t give up that easy goal and have to go chase a goal again.

Yeah, I can't believe he didn't at least parry it away. Horrible.

That was bad but for whatever reason the lowest point of his performance for me was near the end of the match with a few minutes left on the clock, he decided to play the ball up towards the middle of pitch a la Onana and to attempt a long ball, only to overshoot all our players by 20 meters easily.
His performances in general have been exactly what I expected from whatever GK we were going to sign but some things are still a bit too much.

On the other hand, to his defense, he did play with 5 different centerbacks last night, each with their own positional quirks.

Please, when a defender gives you the ball, stop waiting 30 seconds for the pressing to organize then give back the ball to the opponents via long balls :(

Exactly, nice that someone brings this up. We were a bit lazy there in defence to allow that shot in the first place, but it was Sommer's goal.

As for the Salernitana match, did someone else saw that Salernitana goal (offside by VAR) was a bit weak by Sommer again? Like how do you come off the goal to that ball? Shouldn't do it like that.

that's why I was a bit worried when the news linking us with Sommer were popping up. He has solid periods but a howler is no rarirty for him

I noticed that as well. I’m certainly not blown away by him so far. It’s obvious he is a stop gap for a year before we go find a long term replacement. The question is who will that be? We don’t exactly have money to spend big on the goalkeeper position. The guy from Brazil we made a bid for last window seemed interesting.

Pretty sure most people already acknowledged that it was his mistake in the match thread...

Not sure about that offsides goal though seeing it live i though coming off the line was the right decision, then somehow the strker scored and i had to re asses..
Watching it again after the game it looks a lot like our defenders stopped playing cause offsides and thats the only reason the salernitana player was at the ball before sommer....

I could be wrong though just my two cents.

Like what were you guys expecting? This is Sommer he s a very good keeper but just not worldclass and he ll never reach the hights of a JC/samir/Toldo in their prime. Like he s playing pretty much how i expected him to play.

Also side note just from his interviews it sounds a lot like he s gonna be our number 1 for more than just this season.

Did we say we expected otherwise? We are commenting on what we’re seeing in the matches…you know the point of a forum. If he had positively surprised me I would have noted that.

Didn't realize at first, but our first goal actually came from a good long ball from him towards Thuram/Lautaro. Generally some of his long passing has been poor, when he either kicks it out of play or the opposing team just wins the ball back. Glad to see that we got the goal from one of his long passes. I guess he also knows Thuram's movements well as they played together for quite a few years.

I don't read match threads.

Re offside goal: I agree coming off the line was the correct, the way he came off the line was a bit questionable as opponent just nudged the ball under him to goal. Typically those being handled by the GK is that the ground level is blocked and if the attacker then is able to chip the ball over the GK, then so be it. For the attacker, chipping is harder and thus the easier route is choice for the goalie to try to block (low shot).

I assume he's going to be our 1st keeper for next season as well. We'll maybe go for the Brazilian guy to be the 2nd keeper and hopefully our future keeper but most probably no one's going to come and push Sommer out of of the 1st GK spot in the summer.

That save he pulled today after the throw in hiccup... my oh my, should be the save of the week for sure
I don't want to take anything away from Sommer but Onana did many of such saves last season. Still Onana isn't getting any credit for that, only hate
