Nagatomo: "The Coppa Italia is a dream"

ROME – For Yuto Nagatomo this Coppa Italia represents the first trophy he has won at Inter. The Japanese player smiles, he is proud of it: "Many things happened during this year, now - going through this time of great joy - it seems almost incredible, after the tears for the elimination from the World Cup in South Africa. Now it seems like I'm living a dream. I want to continue going forward to improve. These six months at Inter have helped me a lot; one year in this team is like ten in another club. My personal goal for next season? To become the best full-back in the world."
I'm sure that if he continues to play the way he has done, he can quickly become one of the world great fullbacks, either playing as a LB or a RB
Well not so quickly . In order to reach those levels he must learn to cross in the correct sense of the word and not just put high balls in the area and having seen some great prospect full backs in my country it is not such an easy thing to learn.
Would be happy if he turns out to be half good as Zambrotta who played for Gobbi.Just like Zambrotta once was, right footed, great with both feet, playing great either on the left, or on the right...![]()

The English translation here isn't very precise -- I mean, one simply doesn't say something like that when you have Maicon as a senior teammate.
The best translation I can make of a Japanese transcript (whose precision I cannot vouch for either) is as follows: His goal for next season is to "get closer to my dream of becoming the best sideback in the world".
This "dream" has been a recurring theme for Nagatomo, heard before the World Cup even. Perhaps a personal philosophy of sorts, as he goes as far to mention on another occasion that "even becoming the world champion with my team wouldn't guarantee [that I attain my personal dream]. It's an utter unknown, and that's why it's worth the challenge".
With this Coppa Italia, Yuto has won 2 trophies in 2011. It is more than anyone else in Inter.
