Football is kill

If nothing happens now, in 10 years the Premier league will be the super league anyway. I'm sure real Madrid etc can see this coming and this is why. Their revenues already kill every other league and it will only get bigger whilst interest in the other leagues dwindle.

I'm not for the ESL, but something has to be done in creating a level playing field around Europe

this, spanish and italian clubs have to do something

im worried that there is only 3 form italy and spain, with 6 from italy with roma, lazio and napoli i would be content

its not my dream format, but thats the way it is

i would prefer portugal-spanish-italian league to fight with epl for money.

Romano - After Borussia Dortmund statement, also RB Leipzig sources confirmed that they’ve no intention to join #SuperLeague in the next weeks, as SkyDE confirmed.

BVB CEO Watzke also stated that “FC Bayern and B. Dortmund have 100% compatible views”, both against the #SuperLeague.

Lol, even Red Bull said no.

the way UEFA/FIFA are running their competitions is terrible. World Cup in Qatar in winter, Euro between many countries in covid-era, the new Conference League which most of the clubs want to omit, FFP which is valid only for few clubs (like Inter, but PSG ignores it), National League which is shit. The new idea is to invite even more teams to Champions League and have even more matches like APOEL - Legia. The clubs are in financial disaster due to lack of fans at the stadiums and it doesn't surprise me that they want changes. Most of the revenue are generated by clubs invited to the Super League (+ Bayern, PSG and BVB) and most of the money is taken by UEFA and other proxies.

I like the idea of omitting UEFA/FIFA in the process which is corrupted organization and having top clubs facing each other once in a week is great idea. The only problem are domestic competitions, but the rules could be easily improved in the future, so every team could qualify to Super League after having great season in their domestic league (etc. Napoli, Atalanta, Leicester City).

Both UEFA and ESL sides are crap. But ESL is even more crap.

UEFA pretty much caused this. The EPL was the pre-conception and the fact that it was allowed to operate the way it did with all the money laundering under the umbrella of "investments" just makes this a lot more ironic.

Fans of those teams in particular, as well as the gobbi, have no right to complain about this.
They were supporting the path to this for years claiming how amazing they were, yet essentially supporting a dead sport whilst killing off any potential opposition.

Now that they're invited at the funeral they're whining

I don't mind against the idea of Super League, but I don't like that the teams will be the same every season. There should be a rule last in the table to get relegated or at least to have some playoffs. Why not both of them actually.

Don't have one.

Let's see how moral they really are if this shit kicks off and money starts pouring to super league clubs. No doubt in my mind they will join it after a couple of years of heroic struggle against evil super league clubs.

PSG also rejected it but psg and qatar government are deep in bed with uefa, so it was expected. As soon as uefa loses relevance and world cup in qatar is finished they are joining as well.

I don’t get what was wrong with the current CL format that we have? I actually enjoyed that and saw no reason for it to change. You should earn your right to compete in that tournament for that season, and if you cant do so then tough shit.

juve keep getting knocked out too early. Not joking. That's one of the drivers (remember Agnelli is the chair of all this mess)

My first reaction was disgust. Having thought about it though, what are we actually doing? We're being described as a 'break-out'-group, who seek to revitalize continental competion. Which organizations are we breaking with? FIFA and UEFA. Two of the most corrupt organizations in sports.

Sure, right now it sounds ridiculous with 12 teams playing againts each other year round, but cutting out UEFA and FIFA is something I'm a big fan of. If any of this hurts UEFA and FIFA without hurting the football-ecosystem too much, I'm all in. Besides, there is room for developing the format of the tournament to make it more inclusive. Who knows, perhaps we will see something like the CL / EL but being run by clubs instead of a corrupt organization.

Agnelli being the head of it is cause for concern though.

Those WC stadia in Qatar will be put to good use once ESL starts. Derby della madonnina in Qatar. Great!

Why would they care for the local supporters who create atmosphere in the stadium?? Football has become 'bigger'. The whole world is watching now, people from China, Middle-East, Africa, USA will all replace the local supporters.
Lack of atmosphere? No problem, just enhance crowd noises through television or create a fake atmosphere for the viewer to experience. We've seen and heard it before. :)

The whole idea of ESL is that the founding members can't get relegated. It's the whole issue basically. They want to guarantee the revenues. UEFA couldn't do that because they wanted to have the actual SPORTING aspect in their system. That you get to the tournament by merit and not by signed contract.

UEFA is executing a new format for CL. They are increasing the number of teams from 32 to 36, playing in a mini-league format with 8 tops proceeding to the knockout round, the next 16 teams play playoffs for the rest 8 places for ko.

Purpose? Ofc to pour more money into their (UEFA) pockets. They nearly double the amount of matches (from 125 to 225). Big clubs will play more AND earn less, as the prize money will be shared for 36 teams instead of 32.

That is the main reason behind big clubs decision to push for their own league. Basically showing middle fingers to the greediness of UEFA.

Any league which does not have relegation is going to be shite in the long term. We have seen that with IPL in cricket, there is no relegation and the teams finishing last don't need to improve - the games may be fun to watch, but the competition is not really. This Amercanisation of football is going to fuck it all up. I am totally against the idea, and I still hope this is just a "threat" by the big 12 to make UEFA accept their demands for the "improvement" of the CL. I never thought I would say this ever in my life, but if this Super League actually takes off, I might start thinking of my support/love for Inter in the past tense.

Don't kill the golden goose, you fucks.

Im ok with it (barely) if it replaces the CL. But only if we remain in Serie A. You can not just break an ancient tradition like that. Fans will revolt.

That said it will be nice when those guys who created ffp shit their pants in frustration. This is the direct result of bad policy and corruption

Any sport or just football ? Because the NBA is a closed league and is as healthy as ever.

I think that it's been one of the inspiration of the ESL, as stated by La Gazzetta.

The only reason as mentioned is more money so this means in 10 years time they will come up with another form of competition to earn more money. Maybe these f*ckin clubs should think twice about their spending. Maybe they should realize paying someone 300.000 a week is not normal yet sustainable. Paying 200M for a player is not normal etc etc. During a worldwide pandemic where people are dying, companies are dying or shut, they had the privilege to keep working. Fans kept paying their season tickets even though they knew they wouldn't be able to see the games in the stadiums and this is how the clubs thank their fans. This will be the death of football as we know it. It will become a travelling circus who whore them self out for the highest bidder, it's really pathetic.
