Ogbonna doesn't have the leadership nor positioning to play as the central defender in 3 men defense imo.

If we want to play with a back 3 (which I think is a good idea from time to time), then one of Samuel or Cambiasso has to be in the middle. Preferably Cuchu for me, as he gives that ball-retention ability which I think 3-5-2s should be used for.

Yeah i totally agree, for me, this should be the strategy next season.

I'd like to see the team looking something like this.

-----------Frog-----Chucu-----JJ--------------
Schelotto--------------------------------Naga

If those two question mark spots are filled with the right players, I could see this killing it in Serie A. We'd keep possession really well, have a threat down the wings, big goal threat in midfield, and dangerous attackers, I have no clue why you're dismissing it other than because "back 3=bad"

Cuchu is no defender. He can fill in for a few games but cannot have a permanent role there.
Schelotto as RWB is a disaster. Can't assist, can't defend.
Naga as LWB isn't good either. He can focus on either attack or defending but he can't play the part in this formation.
There is no midfielder who can stop attacks there. Unless the ?? is Nainggolan/Gargano, we will be totally overrun.

Cuchu's positional sense+his leadership ability+great tackling suggest to me that he would be a great defender. He's never looked out of place when playing there, and in my opinion, this is the only position where he can be consistently great at this stage of his career.

As for Schelotto, he is a bit of a weak link, I'll give you that. My opinion of him is higher, but we could do with an upgrade there.

Naga is one of our main outlets, and playing at LWB just unleashes him, I think he'd be a force in this formation.

The midfielder: you're right, if it's not a ball-winner, we'd be overrun. That's why I'm assuming the plan is for that player to be a dedicated ball-winner.

Both of these guys are too old. This isn't FIFA where somehow Ronaldo is 38 and still the fastest bastard in the game

Yeah, they're old and painfully slow, they're also gods with their positioning though and that counts for a lot. As long as the other 2 CBs are quick, then I'm happy.

So get rid of Rano and Juan. All 2010 players need the boot. We need a young Europa league team to build from the ground up. We aren't title contenders for a good. 2-3 seasons unless we spend crazy money which we don't have and rather spend it on a stadium.

I'd keep Zanetti (you're already gonna flip out here, that's okay), one of Cambiasso or Samuel, and Milito if he cuts his wage.
I also want Deki to stay, but that's for personal reasons (my enjoyment)

Oh shit, I didn't even notice that part. I can't even begin to counter-troll that comment.

It was sarcasm. People want desperately for our 2010 players to play that they don't notice we have better guys available. I also meant Rano and Juan are not fast.

1: Juan is pretty damn fast, Rano, not so much, but Juan is.
2: So, who among our young superstars can play this role? Holding a back 3 together, organizing the team in front of him, and recycling possession under moderate pressure, Rano can't do it and Juan sure as hell can't. The role is only for Cambiasso.
It's another argument altogether if you don't think the system works, but my point is that a lot of these 2010 players have roles to play at least through next season.

Bench roles where 2-3 of them together make more money than the starting 11... Doesn't seem worth it. Chivu and stank are useless. Milito, Cambi, Samuel aren't going to get 1/3 of the game time and should be given huge
Pay cuts if they wish to retire here. Juan at 500k and Chivu on 2.5 million pisses me off. Chivu almost makes more than Juan+Rano+Naga combined

I agree, they need pay cuts, but that doesn't mean they should leave, it just means they need pay cuts to reflect the fact that they're not gonna play as much.

You think all these guys will accept 1/4 of their current wages or less?

Cambiasso has pretty much come out and said he'll sign any contract Inter offers him. The others, I'm 50/50 on, and Zanetti shouldn't get a pay cut.

Neto stating he's an Inter supporter... Fuck.

He went to Zenit for like 10M, and he's a great, classy CB/RB, I loved him at Siena. I even said it somewhere here before he transferred to Spallettis team.

Dude is awesome, pretty fast, very good technique for a CB, 23-24 years old, tifoso, and he's great at the back.
