If we want to play with a back 3 (which I think is a good idea from time to time), then one of Samuel or Cambiasso has to be in the middle. Preferably Cuchu for me, as he gives that ball-retention ability which I think 3-5-2s should be used for.

If those two question mark spots are filled with the right players, I could see this killing it in Serie A. We'd keep possession really well, have a threat down the wings, big goal threat in midfield, and dangerous attackers, I have no clue why you're dismissing it other than because "back 3=bad"Lol, look at us losing every game 3-0 with that.

Cuchu's positional sense+his leadership ability+great tackling suggest to me that he would be a great defender. He's never looked out of place when playing there, and in my opinion, this is the only position where he can be consistently great at this stage of his career.Cuchu is no defender. He can fill in for a few games but cannot have a permanent role there.
Schelotto as RWB is a disaster. Can't assist, can't defend.
Naga as LWB isn't good either. He can focus on either attack or defending but he can't play the part in this formation.
There is no midfielder who can stop attacks there. Unless the ?? is Nainggolan/Gargano, we will be totally overrun.

Both of these guys are too old. This isn't FIFA where somehow Ronaldo is 38 and still the fastest bastard in the game
Yeah, they're old and painfully slow, they're also gods with their positioning though and that counts for a lot. As long as the other 2 CBs are quick, then I'm happy.
I'd keep Zanetti (you're already gonna flip out here, that's okay), one of Cambiasso or Samuel, and Milito if he cuts his wage.So get rid of Rano and Juan. All 2010 players need the boot. We need a young Europa league team to build from the ground up. We aren't title contenders for a good. 2-3 seasons unless we spend crazy money which we don't have and rather spend it on a stadium.
Oh shit, I didn't even notice that part. I can't even begin to counter-troll that comment.wat?
why sell rano and juan?
what

1: Juan is pretty damn fast, Rano, not so much, but Juan is.
2: So, who among our young superstars can play this role? Holding a back 3 together, organizing the team in front of him, and recycling possession under moderate pressure, Rano can't do it and Juan sure as hell can't. The role is only for Cambiasso.
It's another argument altogether if you don't think the system works, but my point is that a lot of these 2010 players have roles to play at least through next season.
I agree, they need pay cuts, but that doesn't mean they should leave, it just means they need pay cuts to reflect the fact that they're not gonna play as much.
