Nicolo Schira of GdS:

Christian #Eriksen will NOT leave in January. His agent (Martin Schoots) is working for summer as a free agent. Talks ongoing with #Inter, #PSG and #RealMadrid. He has rejected a #Tottenham’s bid for renewing his contract (wages of €9M a year+bonuses). #transfers #THFC

If those clubs are three names you guys think Eriksen would choose us?
Let me be honest here. If Eriksen wants to have sure starting spot he would choose P$G. If he wants the next step in his career and playing with superstars around, Real is his choice. Modric is retiring at exactly the same time.

Whatever we can offer in salary, those two can offer double.

It’s like you are an average looking guy and start mentioning marriage when Scarlett Johansson meets you on the street and smiling at you :( You are giving yourself false hope.Sorry but truth is bitter.

Theres no way we are ahead of Real . PSG with Leo and their oil money can fuck off, bunch of wannabes collecting level1 Ligue1 titles and thinking they are a name in football.

It will be hard to get even Vidal who is on the wrong end of his career, let alone prime 27yr old WC player Eriksen.

I said earlier it doesn't make sense for Eriksen to do a transfer now.

i dont necessarily agree - if he wants silverware its unlikely he'll pick anything up with tottenham this year...

There is no way we land Eriksen after CL elimination.

I believe the main threat, and where Eriksen will probably end up, is PSG. It looks like Eriksen wants Real more than Real want Eriksen as their top target is Pogba. If it's true PSG have offered him 12m/season then i don't think we stand a chance even if Eriksen prefers Inter as his destination. I can't see us offering as much.

Tbh I already had my hopes up because getting Eriksen would have been so fucking huge. Apparently reality checks in again so we get back to our real signings like Vidal and new Mudingayi...

As long as we sign at least one of the two, I'll be ecstatic. Please, please, please do not repeat the same mistakes as summer 2018.

Why silverware right now in this season would play a significant part in his decision making? It's obviously the looming free agency in the summer. He gets to pick his team, he gets a massive signing bonus, his agent gets a good commission.

the money he's gonna get isnt gonna change that much, and at the end of the day, when you're making 10-15-20mil a season already, the bonus is arguably less important. He's had a career of little silverware so far despite being a world class midfielder - we'll never know for sure, obviously, but I bet he'd pass up some of that signing bonus if it meant he had a good chance to win a League or CL this season.

After all, one of the reasons he's leaving Tottenham is because of lack of silverware and desire to move to a bigger club...

With Eriksen, I feel like a virgin 15-year-old girl with brackets - glasses and a ugly smile, in love with the guy 4 years older, with the wishful thinking that he will ask me out, so naive that i believe it.

What if he picks PSG because he wants to play with Icardi?

However good it will be to get someone like Eriksen now or in the summer, for this season the club's priority should be Vidal. I think he will have a bigger impact on the team this season, can't think of a midfielder who is more "Conte-ready". This is where Marotta's style starts to get a bit frustrating. If the reports are true that Inter have offered 12m while Barca are holding on for 20m, that 8m is not worth dragging this shit on for weeks. I would much rather have Vidal to pay 3-4 games more, as the next few games may define our objectives this season.

Ditto with Alonso, if the media reports of Inter offering 20m and Chelsea wanting 30m are true. Get it fucking done already. These two are quality players who will have a significant impact on the quality of our starting XI. Its not like throwing away 10-25m on the likes of Dalbert, Lazaro, Biraghi, Ansaldi, etc hoping some of that shit will stick.

So he would rather leave money on the table and sign for Inter to get more silverware? Inter, a club which hasn't had silverware for a decade?

Only thing I'm betting is he'd leave immediately for Real and might leave some money on the table but other than that, it would be simply insane. He's probably not desperate to PSG or Inter. PSG guarantees silverware in short-term but Inter does not. Not by any means.

Eriksen is going to make 10-15m€ net. Some 15m€ signing bonus is a huge addition to that. It's money immediately paid to your hand, you can invest it immediately. That's year salary to your hand right off the bat. It's sure as fuck an important thing.

So as expected, there's no difference in wages and the only difference in signing him now or in June is the €20m transfer fee.

The key word is "if", but if the difference between securing Eriksen now and potentially missing out on him in January, is just €20m, we'd be stupid not to pay it.

Imagine we miss out on him because we tried to save money and sign him for free in June instead of paying €20m in January. There'd be a riot here.

There's also the small matter of that, if we get him now, he helps us in a Scudetto push for this season that, as of right now, we have reason to believe in, where-as who the hell knows how next season is going to play out.

I have no clue whether this phrase exists elsewhere, but in North America there's a saying about "flags fly forever". When a team in one of the major North American sports wins a championship, there's a banner hung in their stadium/arena (among other banners of less significance). It's also still common to refer to winning a league championship* in MLB as "winning the pennant". And the same idea is in play here. Eriksen for 20M Euro to help us this year for the second-half of the season when we're level on points with Euro, and where the other costs are negligible between now and June (and competition will be tougher to get his signature), then it's a no-brainer to go for it now. Those 20M Euro are well worth it if we win the Scudetto.

*I'll stress that this doesn't mean winning the World Series, but rather winning the championship of either the American or National League

Eriksen would have to leave that signing on fee on the table because we won't offer 20m€ PLUS big signing on fee. In the summer he's going to get that big signing on fee from whoever signs him.

I agree... but on top the fact that Spurs stand to gain 20M they can put towards a replacement, I don't think they would want a player who's wanted out of the club for months around in the dressing room for another 6 months. For sure it will cause problems with their players, with the manager and even the fans. If I was Spurs management I would do my out most to get rid of Eriksen this winter. Then again Eriksen hasn't caused any problems and has put in decent performances coming off the bench this season.

I didnt say anything about him going to Inter as a preference. I dont think he'll sign for us.

If you were in his shoes:

You're a top class player who has been a big fish in a small-ish pond for a few years. You were let down by Real Madrid not signing you last summer when you were expecting them to, and it's not even clear right now he's a first choice for them (publicly and openly with a preference for Pogba).

As far as I understand, too, those sort of signing bonuses are not so present in football anymore. There were big signing bonuses for Bosmans a few years ago, like Pogba and Sol Campbell, but I think the landscape of football has changed a bit now with loyalty bonuses? I'm not an expert in this area as it isn't so publicly discussed.

Anyway, from Eriksen's perspective, his career has been about making money so far. If he wants to cement his name in history in any substantial way, he needs to win silverware.

He's wanted to leave quite publicly for 18 months tbh - the problem for Tottenham has been a lack of offers at the price they wanted. If they wanted to shift him 6 months ago, they could have at a discounted price. I dont know if they were hanging on to the idea of him signing an extension, but from my (second hand) view it seems like it's been established he's not staying for a while now.
