Wouldn't eriksen's agent be inclined to sell him for a transfer fee instead of waiting 6 months for free? Surely there is already a fixed bonus regardless...

the agent can probably get more money if he moves on a free because of the lack of a fee, to be honest - but it depends a lot who the agent is. If it was Raiola, he'd definitely be playing for the move on a free card I suspect. Most agents probably not too fussed as they might make a bit more money off moving him on a free rather than a cut of the transfer fees/etc, but they want the best for the player which would be to move into a new team and start to get his career happy again

aside from all the circumstances, this doesnt really feel like a signing we're in a position to compete for yet. Between salary and status, I dont think we're in the same league as Eriksen yet. I dont think we're going to sign him, but that's not a prediction/sweeping statement, it just feels unlikely. That being all said, we know Marotta is epic to date, and it wouldnt surprise me from his perspective if he could pull this off.

I suspect what we have in our favour is that, probably, us and PSG and maybe Man Utd are the top competition? I've seen in the newspapers a few times, and it makes logical sense to me, that Real Madrid have kind of burned some of their bridges with him - dont know how true it is but it kind of makes sense.

The other angle is how often do you really see bosmans like this come up? Rabiot arguably isn't the same tier, so not very often..

Eriksen would have to leave that signing on fee on the table because we won't offer 20m€ PLUS big signing on fee. In the summer he's going to get that big signing on fee from whoever signs him.

True. But there are other things to consider as well. Since he has talked about his intention to leave, his life at Spurs has been a living hell. The fans have turned against him, he has become largely a bench player and also the club has started performing shite. For one of the top players in the game at the peak of his career, 6 months of hell is not nothing. Specially if it means sitting on the bench being hated by the fans.

Leaving in January means that he will become a key player for a top team again, 6 months earlier. Yes, he may lose some of that "sign on bonus", but he will at least triple his salary for 6 more months. And this is clearly not a money move just motivated my money. Eriksen could have got a big new deal with Spurs 6-12 months ago. Hence I think he will be open to the idea of a January move.

Either way, whether its a January move or a summer move, I suspect it will be done in the next few weeks. Its between Real, PSG, Juve, Man Utd and us. Both Juve and Real seem more distracted by Pogba. I am not sure Man Utd is the ideal change in scenery that Eriksen is yearning for. If we move fast on this, we have a chance. But it does seem like we are distracted with Vidal, who Conte seems to want more desperately.

It's not a linear thing.

Agents and anyone involved usually do get a pre-agreed % on the deal. Sometimes a player/agent has that % mentioned on their contract. That's the most traditional way.

But most money nowadays is with the loyalties. And the image rights. In "obscure" leagues and other sports where there could also be a high taxation, that's where the money is hidden. You sign a normal contract of 100-200k and then you get like a couple of millions hidden in several tax-free bonuses. In the big leagues, they do something similar but for various reasons. In Spain and Italy for example they probably used to do it a lot for the taxation as well.

As for where the money honey is, it depends on each deal separately. And the skill of the mediators involved. If it's Raiola, it doesn't matter if his player is sold or moves on a free if we believe the figures that come out after his high profile deals take place.
What changes is how much the club receives or saves (there are cases where the departing player has to relinquish a significant amount of bonus money upon termination of the contract) and how much the player makes immediately or not. Usually it's not a great difference but they do prefer to get a higher salary, sometimes because they don't receive the pending bonuses unless they are part of a sale aggreement.

It's a very complicated structure and most contracts are different to eachother except for the basic one that everyone receives. There is still a sign-on bonus if you transfer from one club to the other, but it usually involves part of the remaining bonus you had relinquished. Or if you're important enough, it's still extra money.

But if you are a free agent sure as hell the player will receive several millions, sometimes 10m€ or even more as a signing bonus. Rabiot got 10m€, Ramsey probably around the same. Godin probably not but wouldn't be shocked if it was at least 5m€. Eriksen could easily command 10-15m€ if a bidding war occurs. He's probably the biggest free agent in recent times? (given the age)

With Eriksen, I feel like a virgin 15-year-old girl with brackets - glasses and a ugly smile, in love with the guy 4 years older, with the wishful thinking that he will ask me out, so naive that i believe it.

with sunings money, in 3 years, when puberty hits, we iwll be that 19 year old dime on some ugly betty shit

It's not underwhelming for Eriksen to sign for Inter, don't fall for that crap invented by people who have no clue about shit.

True.

People treating this as some unrealistic target need to get on board with reality. We're not the favorites, but we definitely are contenders for his signature.

I mean, on the rumoured contract, he'd be our most expensive player. On Tottenham's previous valuation for him, he'd be our most expensive transfer. On reputation, he's EASILY the most reputable player at Inter. On competition side, Tottenham are CL finalists and have consistently been in the CL the last few years, whereas we've been knocked out at the group stages two out of two.

He'd be taking a little bit of a step down to come to Inter - a step that has the potential to go quite far, no doubt, especially with Conte and some good investment at the helm, but let's not kid ourselves here. I would rank this as high as Ronaldo signing for Juve as a 'surprise' transfer (note there were non-footballing reasons for that one to go ahead)

And in terms of 'best Bosmans in history', this one would probably go down as 2nd place to Pogba off the top of my head? Potentially even ahead of that, as it took time for Pogba to develop?

https://www.mediareferee.com/2019/08/21/the-five-best-bosman-transfers-of-all-time/

This list reckons the top 5 are Sol Campbell, Pirlo, Lewandowski, Pogba and Friedel. It's clearly a very UK-centric list - Campbell was pretty damn good but I'd have expected to at least see Cambiasso there, tbh.

Consider our window too - we signed two great younger prospects in Italy, an off-peak striker, and an over-the-hill CB (among others). We're not exactly in the top tier of clubs -

I agree we're definitely contenders, and we deserve credit for that, but lets not kid ourselves about where we are.

There are a couple of small points to consider too:

1. Inter have won 3 Champions Leagues, Spurs have won 0.
2. I am willing to bet that when we win our 4th Champions League, Spurs will still be at 0.

Pedigree and ambition make a difference too. There is a reason why Inter have won 18 league titles, while Spurs have won only 2 (and none in the last 50 years). We are a big club, an European Heavyweight and always will be. Spurs, not so much.

Tottenham also made the CL final last season, we've only just even gotten back into competing for the CL. You're probably right that we'd get to 4 before they get to 1 - will be interesting to see in 2043 - but at the same time if you want to showcase your talent, you're probably gonna be playing at a higher level at Tottenham for the next year or two than you would at Inter, tbh.

A realistic 'We did really well' for us next season is quarter finals.

You are right, a realistic 'we did very well' for us next season is CL quarter finals AND competing for the Scudetto till the end. 'We did really well' for Spurs next season is CL qualification. Thats exactly the difference I am talking about.

When Eriksen talks to his grandkids, what do you think he will tell them. If he stays at Spurs, it probably will be like "I played for Ajax". Or it could be "I played for Internazionale fucking Milano and won myself a Scudetto or two".

Spurs are just not at Inter's level in pedigree or in ambition, despite the flukey CL finals last season or being financially a similar size. I suspect this is one of the reasons why Eriksen wants to leave, he wants a legacy.

I dont think much of what you've said is in dispute with what I've said - I'm not for a second suggesting that staying at Spurs is an option right here. That's clearly long been broken. I dont think going to Inter is as much of a step up in his eyes as most of us think it is - or at least even if it is, there are some fairly more substantial step ups he could make.

His decision of whether he wants to join Inter has a lot to do with his emotional pain threshold.

There have been several high profile Bosman deals. Pogba ain't one of them, he was just a kid that barely a few people knew about regardless of his quality and how he panned out.

Robert Lewandowski from Dortmund to Bayern possibly takes the cake being by far the most significant. He left for a division rival whom they faced in the CL final a season before (or a few months before agreeing on the move) and this was a player in his prime.

The one I think was the most high profile one and I wanted Inter to conclude the deal back then was Michael Ballack back in 2006. This was a player still in his prime that wanted a new challenge. Moratti shied away his wallet by that point and we probably didn't want to do any deals due to the expectations of Calciopoli. At the end of the day, we got Vieira (who I wasn't much in favour of back then) from the Gobbi. Still feel that with Ballack in the team we could have gotten further in the Champions League and possibly win it.

Andrea Pirlo was the highest profile Bosman but he wasn't considered a "great deal", but mostly a "marketing trick" for the new stadium of Juventus. Little did they know. I remember wanting us to sign him back then but everyone around me were like "he's finished, why would Milan let him go?"... Anyhow, it ended up being a great transfer.

Not sure if Pirlo's transfer is the best Bosman in Italian football history since a very similar story was with Cafu who joined Milan at the age of 33 when everyone thought he was going to retire after a couple of seasons.

And obviously for us Interisti the best ever has to be Esteban Cambiasso. And once again, he wasn't some Real Madrid reject that rotted on their bench. He was an integral part of their midfield in 2002-03 and he has faced some injuries and tactical decisions (they wanted to play with 6-7 attacking players for some reason) in 2003-04 when they got Beckham and lost Makelele. Everyone who saw him knew he was a gem with great tactical awareness, but he was a balding unattractive Argentine (which matters as he wasn't a Castilla graduate) so Perez deemed him a non-tourist attraction that he didn't care about. Lucky us.
This is objectively the greatest Bosman deal of all time.

Bologna signing Baggio was also a great deal but he only played there one season before joining us.

Another high profile one was once more for Juventus, this time Edwin Van der Sar of that great Ajax team.
Ajax had also lost Edgar Davids to Milan who started his journey to play for all big 3 of Italy. Big one, but not as big as Van der Sar's deal.

Whilst Sol Campbell's deal was the most controversial (he was Tottenham's captain iirc, played there for like 10 seasons and then moved to their hated rivals) in English football, the highest profile one is someone leaving for Real Madrid from Liverpool. Steve McManamanan.

And honestly, us capturing Diego Godin on a free should be considered yet another high profile coup. The fact that we no longer employ a tactical system that helps him shouldn't make this a lesser transfer.

The top 5, in terms of how they ended up, in my view are:
1) Cambiasso to Inter
2) Lewandowski to Bayern
3) Pirlo to Juventus
4) Cafu to Milan
5) Cocu to Barcelona

Ballack to Chelsea marginally out.

The reason why there isn't a great deal of these is because teams want to cash in. Dejan Stankovic's name could have been here but instead we paid something like 4m and ended up with him in January. Alexis Sanchez also could have been there but both his club and himself opted for the money.

We'll see if Eriksen's name comes here. The closest thing to him moving on a free would be Ballack. Same age, similar stature in the game and pretty much same position.

But our advantage is he wants out of Tottenham. :)

Also, Inter is going up, Spurs is going down. They don't sign enough players, they don't change their squad enough. It's too stagnant. CL final is their peak. They're not gonna win EPL with this spending (and nothing implies the spending changes).

At Inter you're challenging for the title. CL is a bit far yes, but I'd bet next one of these making the CL final is Inter. Eriksen's favourites are surely Real and Barcelona but they are not loving back. Real (Zidane) wants Pogba and Barcelona needs to make money, not spend it, to accommodate the return of Neymar.

In my eyes our biggest competitors are PSG and Juve.

I dont think anyone has at any point suggested that Tottenham are competition for us in signing Eriksen - anyone who has remotely followed the saga will know that Eriksen and Tottenham are done and dead.

My point was that, RIGHT NOW, Inter is almost a bit of a step down from Tottenham. It's kind of a shame we didnt have Conte do his magic last season, because it'd be an interesting potential step up - if Conte keeps up his season so far then it'd be quite an interesting opportunity for Eriksen.

I'm not saying we won't get him - we're clearly a club trending up - but if we'd challenged for the scudetto in the previous season and were doing so again this season, I think we'd be a much more attractiv eoption
