Have you seen him play lately? He's really not that good and his value will likely start to depreciate. Schuurs is younger and will appreciate in value.

If Schuurs is as good as people say then he should definitely be preferred over Pavard. Then we can go for either Pavard or Djalo for free next season.

35m for Schuurs means he would be cheaper than Pavard too as his wages would be lower.

At least against Cagliari he played as RCB (checked it). In transfermarkt he was placed as RCB in the Coppa Italia match aswell in this season.

Again if he’s what people describe him e.g. big strong fast aggressive… he will be able to fill all the defensive requirements of the RCB role. It’s not ideal since he’s certainly not as good as Pavard on the ball, probably not as good as Darmian either (I know nothing abt him). But if you’re willing to look past this season, then hopefully we will have an easier time next season when we need to phase out Acerbi and Pavard/Djalo will be free for the RCB role.

Bayern are clearly waiting to be 100% sure that a new defender comes. Should he be announced Pavard is released right after. Otherwise they are rich enough to afford...one season of failure is worth more than 30m.

We are only setting a deadline for ourselves. After that date we will carry on the talks for the (obviously much worse) replacement. Probably Tanganga or Toloi

Question: why Schuurs went from Ajax to Torino?

Schuurs arrived at a young age from Fortuna Sittard. Guiding them to their first promotion, as the youngest captain ever, in 15 years. He was regarded a top prospect and the expectations where huge.

At a very young age he made some errors, which costed points. He wasn’t a guy from the Ajax academy so he didn’t got as many changes as other young players from the supporters (like Timber). The tendency became very negative over him. Besides that he isn’t you typical Ajax defender. He isn’t as good on the ball or isn’t as comfortable with huge space in his back as someone as Timber. So they decided to let him go. Just like they did with Botman for example.

Baschirotto and Schuurs based on the very limited times I watched them, are very good in my books but last generation type of CB like Vidic (not when he is with us) Terry, no ball playing elements whatsoever, so depends on how Inzaghi wants to set it up, if the right side is more defense driven, I think we will be fine.

I’ll be fine with Schuurs talented lad, might end up as good at same age. Has Serie A experience, has played in 3 man defence so is really a no brainier

Take my opinion with a grain of salt since I only have seen little of him, but my impression is that Schuur is not a modern type of defender who is excellent passer and confident and secure with the ball.

People here are aware how important it is that our GK is good with ball on his feet. Remember that same applies to our centrebacks. Pavard over Schuur, no contest.
