He was poor when he came on today, but he has been good in just about all of his other substitute appearances so I wouldn't go that far. With that being said I think Brozovic for Banega was the obvious substitution.

Young players are supposed to be the ones that are inconsistent. Unfortunately we get that from every single player in the squad due to our mental fragility.

He's a young player and he'll have high and lows. He wasn't good today but did well against Roma and especially Bologna. He'll definitely have good and bad games, but I don't have issues with De Boer giving him chances. I just don't think he was needed in this game, Brozovic should have played.

Looked better on the 2nd half. These minutes on the pitch will help him a lot.

He is slow, but good with the ball when being pressured. An essential trait that any midfielder must have (retweet to Kondo).

I really think his best position would be the one Medel plays currently. Maybe lacking a bit of experience for that role at the moment but in the long run I think that's where he can be most effective. Speed really doesn't matter there and he's shown he has a good mind for the game and is a efficient passer.

Exactly my point. He's more unexperienced but has better vision, passing and he keeps the ball much better under pressure than Medel. Medel's positioning is not good enough as well and his advantage over Gnoku is pure destroying but it's working only if we play counter attacking football.

Unfortunately, the guy has wasted 2 years of his career and there are 2 subjects to blame for this: Mancini and the management (to a much lesser extent mazzarri, too). They should have given him more playing time or given him on loan. De boer is the first one who is giving actual, important chances to the kid, and without makng him rot on the bench after one bad.match. But being a young player, as many have pointed out, there will be ups and downs.

In the long run he will most likely be much much better than a talentless guy like medel.

I think Mazzarri has nothing to do with it. He was 18 when Mazzarri was here. He wasted only one year, which is last season.

Not to sound racist but you know those meme pics of a while back where you couldn't see a black person because the background was too black? His 1st half performance reminded me of those, he was invincible.

Almost everyone yesterday was bad in the first half. Actually, until we scored. After that, the fairy of self-esteem did the magic for everyone except Murillo.

Not to sound racist...

Then goes on and sounds like a racist.

BTW, there's a difference between invincible and invisible.

Idk I worry if we play him as a DM because medel has the pace to run back and stop an opposing counter attack while goku looks slow I don't think he would catch up. Then again it medel was in the correct position maybe teams wouldn't counter us so many times.

KId still has a lot of time to find his perfect spot as long as he gets minutes and does decent i m happy with him. It s not like every 20/21 year old has already found his ideal position on the field this goes especially for midfielders.

His vision is lovely. So comfortable on the ball and does a really good job screening the field for all his options. I love watching him play.

Do you remember a certain bald DM we had marshaling our midfield for almost a decade? He was slow as molasses and still probably one of the best DMs in the game at his peak. There are so many examples of slow midfielders especially in that position that we're absolute class.

Agreed, positioning and being able to read the game is a lot more important than pace for a DM in most cases. Pirlo, Xabi Alonso, Motta, and Cambiasso are the first names that come to mind.

Those players are geniuses of the game. Especially Cambiasso he was so smart he didnt need to be quick. Also, he was not per say slow in his prime.

That's the most annoying argument when discussing a youngster.

Those guys were Gods you can't compare him to them. Well they were youngsters as well one time. And I'm not saying Gnoukouri is the next Pirlo, but the kid has talent. And similar to the players listed above, his postioning and ability to read the game is what catches people's eyes.
