New Harry Potter books? :lick: read them all as they were published one by one, except the last one, because the fucking movie came out and though I bought it, made the mistake of watching it first.

It's been quite a long time for me touching print literature sadly. I've been doing audiobooks for a couple of years now, just because I don't have time to read properly and audio at night is convenient.

Since it's being mentioned, read all of Nietzsche's work back in my teens. Enlightening stuff at the time - not so much now.

I've already read Animal Farm, I'm actually a huge fan of George Orwell, I've also read Down and Out in Paris and London, which was a memoir of his experiences with poverty. My favorite book would be 1984, I consider it to be one of the best books I've ever read.

I'll make sure to check out The City & the City and other China Mieville works after I finish Brave New World. Thanks for the recommendation!!

it's nice to know someone here likes orwell because i'm a big fan of him too :). so far i've finished animar farm, 1984, homage to catalonia, and down and out in Paris. i always think 1984 should be in the top ten of greates novel all time. it is stunning in many aspects. story, perpective, writting style, and diction. even Chomsky says that half of his books that analyzes media are inspired by 1984. i myself think it is like a political text book written in novel style. the ending is just fuckin brilliant. you cant ask for more on how to describe the struggle in the real world. those up and down, betrayal, and its bleak result. mirroring perfectly the development of political history.

i currently read Orwell's fifty collected essays. so far it's been great.

imo 1984 is better than brave new world. not because i'm an avid reader of orwell but it actually explains the whole elementary foundation of control. you cant hold authoritarian power without having total control on economic and politics first. culture is usually influenced by political-economy.- a more serious discussion of it would require an exposition of critical social theory mainly on ideology topic. second, is the writting style. you could easily sees how orwell comes up with creativity and innovation in 1984. notice the langauge of propaganda of it is just mind-blowing.

in the end both book is great, anyway.

i would pick printed book than digital version in heart beat. there is this unexplainable joy in opening its pages. looking at your bookshleves. or enjoying the art of the cover. it's like having an old pleasure of owning cassette or CD. digital stuff mostly offer the simplification and time-space compressing. it's boring

Read Elon Musk's biography last week. It was pretty good, very interesting to see how he's gone 5/5 on successful startups.

Now I'm bored and have nothing to read =/

The new book of Ferguson is fucking ridiculous. He even claimed that Kissinger was a freedom fighter in his whole life :trollol: Seriously, how can this guy earn a position at Harvard and Stanford? :yao:

meanwhile the one from Grandin looks like anti-Kissinger, but it's quite mediocre.

Started reading Shantaram yesterday. Enjoyed it so far, then at some point decided to check what are people saying for it on Goodreads. Man, there were some horrible reviews a la the author is a pseudo philosophical self serving prick and the like. I don't know but I think I won't enjoy it that much from now on after reading reviews, so the moral of the story is - don't read reviews if you're already reading the damn book. It's like a bandiera after four wins.

bookfi uses only a part of libgen database. Their main search engine:

http://gen.lib.rus.ec/

For every book that you can search on this site, you'll have 4 options to download. The first one is their main link, the other 3 (including bookfi.org) are just alternative and maybe not working.

The newest books are uploaded on avaxhome, here is their website:

http://avxhome.se/ebooks

The downside about avaxhome is you'll need an nitroflare account to download.

The next source is: http://bookdl.com/ (they were wowebook back then), they focus mostly on computing books.

Those 3 websites are 3 biggest sources of illegal ebooks right now. All other sites (even torrent) took books from them and re-uploaded on their sites.

Also, some legally websites for download ebooks:

http://bookboon.com/ : most of their books are free, in exchange they inserted some ads in their book contents, header and footer only so it doesn't matter much).
http://greenteapress.com/ : some good titles about computer science.
http://www.scribd.com/ : not free, but you can download some titles if you can upload another document in exchange.
http://www.intechopen.com/ : Open access books and journal, mostly about technical fields, you can download all of them for free.
http://freecomputerbooks.com/ : They provide links to free legal books (from publishers or authors). Most of their books are about applied math or computer science.

Here is some tricks, you search the ones you like on amazon, then take some keywords and the author's name and search them on those sites above. Don't use full name of the authors.

Back then I used gigapedia (they changed to library.nu and made it private), too bad they have to close it. Sad news for readers, great news for authors and publishers though.

Mourinho's book is just a collage of pictures with quotes. Nothing earth-shattering in the content at all.

Ben Bernanke new book? Is it this one:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/039324721X

then it's already out here (only epub version atm though), probably tons of BS as typical politician stuffs: http://avxhome.se/ebooks/039324721X.html

Mourinho's new book is not available yet. Usually best-selling stuff will be pirated right after they are released. Springer books are also pirated early, some were leaked even before their release date, because most people request those stuffs.
