This is the key over here.

We played that formation versus the teams who play offensive football, ball possesion football. We also got 4-0 away win against Roma last year, playing that formation.

This is not a formation to break a deffense, unless we're Milan '05 like a person you responded to said. This is a good formation if we want to deffend, and exploit the other team on counter.

But is Chelsea a team that plays possesion typ of football ? Is it a team who will impose themselves at the Meazza ?

I don't think so. This is deffinetly not a formation for us to break the deffense.

No surely Chelsea are not a team like Barça or Arsenal who play possession football but I see them as a side who can impose themselves and dominate the game. I don't think they will come to the San Siro and just defend like they did last year in the first semifinal vs Barça for example and at the same time I don't see us being able to impose ourselves, also remembering our previous showings against big teams in Europe. Anything can happen of course, maybe we'll see Inter playing with the right mentality from the beginning but I think a quite defensive formation is ideal in this game, also 'cause counterattacking is one of the things we do better and we have enough technically gifted players (especially Milito, Pandev and Sneijder) who can pull out a moment of magic out of nothing. Since we're playing the first game at home, the most important thing will be not to concede goals. Should this unfortunately happen, we can change our formation.

I think Stankovic can also do that job if he is in enough good condition.

I wish he recovered on time for the game, he would be ideal in midfield 'cause he does a lot of defensive work but makes himself extremely dangerous in attack too. Let's hope he will be back for the 2nd leg at the Stamford Bridge.

I hope we'll reach our best form ever against Chelsea. They just totally bombed Cardiff even without their John Terry.

Isn't that what you would expect though?

John Terry didn't look good against Everton btw.

Not conceding at home is important, very important, but I think more importing is scoring. Lets look at this that way.

A result 0:0 in the first leg gives who an advantage for a second leg ? Probably not Inter, right ?

Not conciding is important, but it's goals that got you through, not the goals you don't concede, and where it is easier to score them if not at home, having our own audience as our 12th man ?

Playing a deffensive formation like that would have sense to it, if say we got 1:0 win at Meazza, and then go to Chelsea. That would make sense. But playing deffensively, and counting for a counter attack is just wasting the fact we're playing home. You have to take advantage of that.

So summing that up, we have to take advantage of that and try to score goals, but at the same time we have to do everything to make sure we won't concede. That gives us a ballanced formation, neighter offensive (many strikers), or deffensive (not many strikers).

4-4-2 Rombo seems like a perfect choice for the fist leg, with 4-2-3-1 as a second option, if neigher of our quartet Sammy/Wes/Diego/Goran will be left on the bench.

Ya.

I'd like 4-3-1-2 at home, and depending on the result (hopefully positive), a 4-2-3-1 at Stamford.

I'm agreeing with what Cafe said earlier, if we're going to score this time around, it will only be due to more and more bodies forward leaving gaps for their Counters behind and they will score as well.

Chelsea will definitely score, so its up to us to reply in the same manner. I sincerely don't think it will be another Chelsea-Liverpool as we are Inter, we aren't that disciplined in Europe. Our discipline in Europe is infact ridiculous.

They're very poor from Set-Pieces defence-wise. A strong team but our main chance is wesleys deliveries

Fuck. I don't think I've ever seen such fucking idiocy in my life.

SBS Sydney is broadcasting fucking CSKA Moscow - Sevilla instead of Inter - Chelsea.
Oh my God it's too much. My head may actually fucking explode.

Mota, Mariga, Muntari...if Moratti think that he will celebrate CL with this players than he better start play PlayStation. I mean, we are INTER, not some mid-table team. Gerrard, Fabregas, Xavi, Iniesta, Essien even Hamsik. This kind of players Inter need,WORLD CLASS, because Inter are WORLD CLASS team. So better Moratti start saving money for the summer, if he want to reach at least semi final.
Muntari, Mota, Mariga....yeah sure :nono:
About formation vs. Chelsea, i would go with the next one:
Cezar
Maicon Samuel Lucio Santon
Cambiaso
Stankovic Mota
Sneider
Pandev Milito
Im sorry for JC, but i think this is the best for home match, in London we can play Zaneti instead of Mota.

that's the same i'm thinking.. if Deki isn't ready, i pronounce the exit Officially! .. no WC in our MF nowadays.. Motta is good, but nowhere near WC :thumbsdo:

another thing, this shitty old Rombo strategy will get us Nowhere (4-3-1-2)
the best is 4-2-3-1 .

yes, if we don't score in meazza it will be all over, even if we draw, thats why i think we should go 4-2-3-1 in the 1st leg and hopefully we can score early and successfully park the bus for the remainder of two legs

Yeah I was pissed off when I heard that too. I think SBS has some sort of deal with ESPN thats why they won't have it...

Don't talk rubbish mate. Yous lost away to Everton and struggled against Hull only earning a point.

Going to Naples is very tough and they would comfortably beat Hull or Everton, you cannot base a champions league game on how a team does in their respective championship. If that was the case Chelsea would have no chance based on their drubbing by Wigan earlier on in the season. Now if you are gonna post utter nonsense go and do it on a Chelsea forum.
