Whereas I think Manolas, De Rossi, Nainggolan, and Salah walk into our side. Dzeko vs Icardi is difficult and for arguments sake I'm saying neither one walks into the other side due to the other player being their equal.

Now that I had sometime to think about the game last night, I don't think it was a total disaster and certainly we still have a chance of making it to CL.

First of all, we've been saying for weeks that we need to win all our remaining matches except 2, anticipating losses against Roma and Napoli. We lost against Roma as we expected, now we should concentrate on the remaining matches. If we lose against any team other than Napoli, that's when the alarms should go off.

Secondly, We were playing with a FB, a midfielder and a relatively young inexperienced CB at the back in a new formation! Honestly, it's a miracle we didn't concede more goals!

Honestly, is Andreolli that bad that he has to be behind a midfielder and a fullback for the CB position?

Pioli needs to stop tinkering with the team so much. He had a winning formula and he should just stick to it.

This is 100% on Pioli. It was so bad that unless he gets CL this season there is no chance he's staying on. After reading through this I actually don't think you guys understand how bad he fked it up yesterday. It's not just the formation ( even though 4 at the back would have been better) it's where he positioned the players on the pitch.

Brozovic and Joao Mario are NOT inside forwards, they belong in the center of the pitch, we would have been better off playing god damn Palacio and Eder in those positions behind Icardi if Pioli wanted to fully attack Roma anyways. And then to make matters worse he puts our best attacking player as a fkin WB.....like wtf? Perisic would get the ball and then pass to Brozovic who was always further ahead of him....that's not right?

Good post, but I disagree. His options were limited. Also, he'd already had relative success over the last 4 matches playing one WF & one WB in a 3-4-2-1 system (Candreva & Dambrosio). He was desperate, so he tried two WFs instead. It was risky, and definitely led to some confusion on the pitch, but it was far from a complete disaster. It was, after all, a competitive match.

Playing 4 at the back means either 1) starting one of Ansaldi or Nagatomo or 2) playing Perisic or Candreva as a LB in a 4-man defense.

These are not great alternatives and you bet your ass he would have been heavily criticized if he'd tried them...

This match was lost all the way back in January 2014, when we could have got Nainggolan, but instead we got Hernanes, Taider, Belfodil, etc.

And we had a Indonesian owner at the time! Did I mention Nainggolan transferred for all of 9m euros?
