Dude how many times does this fucker get subbed off when he's on a hat trick?!

Also, My Captain :proud:
We shouldn't overplay him cus we need him till all the season. last season, I think, we overplayed him and we shouldn't do it again to avoid injury and in form.

Happy birthday Señor Martinez!

The Inter captain celebrates his 26th birthday today

Lautaro Martinez celebrates his 26th birthday today. The Argentine attacker arrived at the club in the Summer of 2018. From then on, he has made 239 appearances, scoring 104 goals. He has won 1 Scudetto, 2 Coppa Italia and 2 Supercoppa Italiana in the Nerazzurro shirt. Last season he proved to be more of a leader and more prolific, breaking the 100-goal mark in the Nerazzurro shirt and reaching ninth in Inter’s all-time topscorer list. His determination and charisma earned him the Nerazzurro captaincy this season.

Best wishes to Lautaro from the entire Interista family!
Wishing you win scudetto by the end of this season.

I remember when i was 26, around the time we entered the dark days of Serie A, with juve on a winning streak

While i wish you the best im not sure we have the talent this yr to win the scudetto, its no secret i hate our formation and think we would be better off with another one.

He works harder than most strikers. He harasses defenders often and thus gets more fatigued by the end of games. It’s only natural that Inzaghi takes him off for fear of muscle injuries. If there’s one player we don’t wanna lose, it’s El Toro.

Buon compleanno Lautaro!

My issue my him is still the same issue I had with Lukaku: big games. We'll never truly be an elite team without strikers that can score in big games. And I mean more than consolation goals.

Both score in big games. Both just don't score in big games enough to be our new Eto'o or Milito

But he did show up.

At Anfield before Sanchez fucked it up.
At Camp Nou in most important match in group stage last year.
Against Benfica, in derby matches …

I think people are accustomed of finishers like Vieri, Icardi, Milito, Eto'o as main strikers and don't see Lautaro up to par, but he offers other things as well, in his imperfectionous self

He has scored plenty of times in big games though. I could be wrong but I believe the fixture in which he has scored the highest number of goals is the Milan derby.

Even in his poor CL scoring season, the goals he has scored were in big games but not in the smaller ones.

2019/2020 - scored 5 goals - 2 against Borussia, 1 against Barca, 2 against Slavia Prague
2020/2021 - only 1 goal - away against Real Madrid. Failed to scored against the weaker teams in the group.
2021/2022 - only 1 goal - away against Liverpool. Failed to score against the smaller teams (Sheriff, Shakhtar).

He's also scored in both SuperCup games, Coppa Italia final. In our Scudetto winning season, the most important match was probably Milan derby when we were close at the top of the table and he scored 2 goals that game.

Even last season, he failed to score against Viktoria Plzen but scored away Barca, QF vs. Benfica and SF vs. Milan. With Lautaro, he's never been the type of player to only score in small games vs. big games. He has his droughts but it has nothing to do with level of opponent.

Some of those players actually had a pretty poor record against our big rivals.

Vieri - he played 13 Milan derbies overall and scored 2 goals.
Eto'o - 4 Milan derbies 0 goals. In our CL winning season, scored 2 goals overall.
Icardi - he has decent numbers against Milan/Juventus, but interestingly it took him 4 years at Inter to score his first goal in a Milan derby. He went scoreless in the first 7 Milan derbies, but then scored plenty of times in the fixture.
Milito - really good record against Milan but rather poor against Juventus. I believe he only scored in one fixture against Juve - the 1-3 Stramaccioni victory.

I'm not trying to minimize what any of these players did at all - for example, Eto'o was huge for us in the treble winning season. However if someone looks purely at numbers they would think Eto'o had a 'weak' season by his standard - 12 Serie A goals and 2 CL goals. But this was not the case.

Now that I think of it, most of our big 'star' strikers have pretty poor record against Juventus overall. Lautaro, Milito, Lukaku, etc. never really did well against Juventus. Other than Icardi, the only other striker that consistently did well vs. Juventus was Julio Cruz.

I'm talking more about the WC final and CL final. He clearly underperformed in both.

It's not that simple. I actually think he was good against City and in games like that there are barely any chances to take. "Clearly underperformed" is a bit much.

I wish it was him that had those chances Lukaku had...

The sample size of 2 is not something I would draw ANY conclusions.
Lol, how many finals should we play before drawing conclusions? 7-8?

I'm joking, we've played many high-profile games lately. Coppa, Supercoppa finals, CL eliminations should also be considered high-pressure games. The sample size is larger.

I wouldn't say he underperformed in the CL final. WC Final he did miss a header, but Argentina's 3rd goal came from good movement from Lautaro and Messi scoring on the rebound from Lautaro's shot.

There are rarely any players that you can say performed in both CL Finals and WC Finals.

Even a guy like Benzema who played in 5 CL finals - from goal-scoring perspective, he only made a difference in 1 CL final he played in, and that goal was also on Karius having a terrible game.

Mbappe is probably the only current player I can think of that you can say consistently performed in big games, although some people also thought he underperformed in the CL Final.

In recent years, most big-name forwards have been fairly quiet in the recent CL Finals actually (Haaland vs. us, Lewandowski vs. PSG, Mbappe vs. Bayern, Benzema vs. Liverpool, etc.)

Pop quiz (without looking it up):

Lautaro has scored against every team currently in Serie A, except for one. Which team is it (obviously excluding Inter)?
