No one is offering anything close to his release clause any time soon so I don't think we need to worry or think about selling him. If fans want him replaced with someone else, that's a different matter and that's their opinion to have, which is fine.
As critical as I am of the player, I want to see him play a starting role for the majority of the season next to Lukaku. I don't believe a 343 will be a sudden improvement either.
Ultimately it'll be as simple as whether Lautaro (and Lukaku too for that matter) can give Conte what he wants. If he can't, he won't play, and that's fair.
It's not as if Conte is playing Lautaro out of position on the wing or anything. He isn't asking him to do anything unreasonable or way out of his skill set. Conte is asking him to learn how to play and be a dynamic and involved forward with good tactical sense and good movement.
These are all things that ANY top class forward should possess. These are also mentally-demanding skills pertaining to ones game sense, application of tactical instructions and knowledge, not ones physical prowess - which means if he can't learn them, he's an idiot. They determine who is a smart footballer and who is not. This is what I'll be monitoring from Lautaro's game over the next year. If he can't get a grasp on this, then he really is no fucking better than Gabigol.
