Watched almost all the chelsea games with my friend who is a chelsea fan. And while Kovacic got better as a defensive player, he did not improve in anything else. I still think he was better his last year at Inter than anywhere else. His offensive production is just too low for a guy that has lots of talent. For him to actually become one of the best mids in the world, he needs to be more dangerous for the opponents goal. He's also one of the reasons Chelsea's offense sucks. Him and Jorginho just don't do much and everything has to come to Mason Mount. Kovacic should be scoring at least 5 goals per season and not 5 goals in 5 years. Thats pretty pathetic for a guy that is great at dribbling and making runs forward with the ball.

Kovacic turned into one of the best central/box to box midfielders and you people are just hating for whatever reason.

He isn't better than Valverde, bro. That is why Valverde is at Real Madrid starting no matter his position, because he is so good, while Kovačić is a mixed bag with his performances. I like Kova a lot, would love to have him at Inter, but he isn't really one of the elite.

I can definitely accept the Valverde argument and I am also not saying he is better than Valverde but for me he is definitely on that level with the other midfielders I mentioned.
In my opinion he changed his game and style at Chelsea and he is now a different player.
He was very hard to find into a team with his characteristics he had playing for us. Could not really play him too far upfront or as a deep lying playmaker unless he developed in a certain way which he never did with us or with Real Madrid really. He was not strong enough to play box to box or center midfield.
With Chelsea he really upped his defensive game and bulked up so he is now a hardworking gritty midfielder with the elite dribbling , speed and passing that he always had. His finishing is definitely below par compared to some of the others and that is what he never really improved and most likely will never improve but at this point is not really what is asked from him or the path he developed into.
All in all if you were to ask me who I want next to Barella/Brozovic he would be the first name on my list, also given the bias that I really like his style of play and that the difference between him and other top box to box midfielders is at this point insignificant.
