i appreciate not every midfielder has to create assists to be useful, but given his vision andd range of passing, his creative output is really.. woeful

Vision/creativity has never been where Kova excels. This has been repeated over and over and over. It's like expecting Kante to carve open opposition defenses and getting mad when he doesn't deliver. It's these Modric comparisons I suppose that serve to confuse. Kova is the guy to safely carry the ball the from defense to attack with passes and and direct running into spaces. Partnered with Jorginho their job is to control the midfield. But in the final third they're useless. You have Mount, Pulisic and Havertz whose job is to deliver in those areas. In any case not one of Kova's finest moments.

That's why coaches and Chelsea fans love Kova, he's integral to their build up / transition play. If we had Kova we could send all our players foward, (even Handa!!) without worrying about losing the ball.

I said above mediocre. Good player to have, but nothing spectacular. His ability to take the ball forward is great to have, especially if you play counter attacking football, but it's not like he is world beater or something i'd die to have.
