You can't overstate how important this summer is for us. 12 expiring contracts. Every position on the roster is in flux. For once we seemingly won't have to make a huge sale to balance the books. Marotta needs to earn his keep and set us forward on a path to sustainable success this summer.

I want to keep Onana. He was our MVP of the majority of our Champions League matches. We can play a different style of football with him. I understand we'll sell him if we get offered something stupid (€80M) but he needs to stay. It's also time to let Handanovic retire. We need to appoint a new captain, and he just doesn't offer much anymore. I don't care who we bring in. Seppe is the name that was floated last week - more than good enough. We also have Radu under contract still. It would be nice to finally sell him.

The defense is a disaster. Renewing Bastoni needs to be priority number one. Then you have de Vrij and D'Ambrosio on expiring contracts, and Acerbi's loan expiring. It's time to move on from both de Vrij and D'Ambrosio. Both offer little on the pitch. de Vrij's wages are too high for a reserve player. So in an ideal world you're replacing Skriniar, de Vrij, and D'Ambrosio. You need one bonafide starter. Probably two, if you consider that Acerbi can't be expected to keep up his current form much more than a year or two. Congratulations to everyone reading this post; you've finally reached the end of the Dalbert era. Don't forget we're going to need to golden handshake Lazaro this summer.

The midfield should be set, but I have a feeling it isn't. My gut tells me we're going to try and unload Brozovic and make Calhanoglu the permanent regista. So assuming Gagliardini isn't renewed and one midfielder is sold, we're going to need two midfielders. I will blow my brains out if we sign Kessie. I want to sign someone who can offer some creativity and unlock attacks. Enough with the grinta merchants who recycle possession.

I suspect we're going to see some major changes at wingback. Dimarco will obviously be back, but I wouldn't count on anyone else returning. Bellanova's option is far too expensive. Gosens might want a starting position elsewhere to compete to be in Germany's Euro 2024 squad on home soil. I'm skeptical anyone will want to buy Dumfries, so I think he'll be back.

The reality of what I want to happen without attack and what will actually happen with our attack are two very different things. I want Lukaku, Dzeko, and Correa all out. I fully expect us to try and renew Lukaku's loan, renew Dzeko, and fail to loan out Correa. If yesterday's match wasn't the proof that we need some different characteristics in attack, then I don't know what will convince them.

My ideal squad would look something like this:

GK: Onana, Seppe, Cordaz
CB: Acerbi, Bastoni, Darmian, x, x
RWB: Dumfries, x
LWB: Dimarco, Gosens
CM: Barella, Brozovic, Calhanoglu, Mkhitaryan, Asllani, x
ST: Lautaro, x, x, x

What I think we're going to get is more like this:

GK: Onana, Seppe, Cordaz
CB: Acerbi, Bastoni, Darmian, x, x
RWB: x, x
LWB: Dimarco, x
CM: Barella, Calhanoglu, Mkhitaryan, x, x, x
ST: Lautaro, Lukaku, Correa, x

Regardless of scenario, we're looking at needing to integrate 5-7 first team players, which is a fucking ton. Busy summer ahead.

Good post. I would add that we’re going to need to sell someone in order to bring in the necessary players needed for a revamp. We have to make the right choices. The question becomes who you let go:

Dumfries is the obvious choice if someone is willing to pay a decent sum, but you probably wouldn’t see more than 25-30mil in reality. Brozovic could maybe fetch around 40, but it would be a really heartbreaking loss for interisti. Onana could maybe fetch a stupid offer in the 70mil range, but I very much want to keep him— Vicario seems like a good option, but he’s not the same type of player and less tested (not to mention he missed quite a few games with an injury). I would avoid selling at all costs Bastoni, Barella, and probably Lautaro because we need a guaranteed starting striker going into next season.

Big decisions indeed.

Dumfries needs to go. I'd sell him for 25-30m. He constantly fuck up opportunities by his lack of ideas. He's a hard worker but we need something extra from our WBs.

We also need to stop being scared of making too many changes at once. When it's time to let go we have to let go! I won't renew any player on expiring contracts. I really want to see a set of players on reasonable salary who could be useful for us throughout the season. No more keep the X player just because of his experience or for the sake of adding numbers to the squad.

Great post.

I think we'll keep handanovic. D'ambrosio will probably stay on smaller wages but he's past it sadly. Looks like de vrij will also stay.

My dream signings;
Hakimi (if he's not guilty of rape and comes cheap)
Perisic(for cheap only if gosens leaves and as di Marcos back up)
SMS, for obvious reason.
Strikers. I don't have any names as long as we don't get retegui for 20m, what a waste.

Sales
Correa, gtfo
Dumfries-he finished the season very well but was piss for 75% of it.
Dzeko, too old.
Gosens - I think sadly he will leave

I'd rather give Perišić one year to be one of our 4 attackers instead of Correa. I'm sure he'd score headers and a few counterattacks.

Hakimi is not halving his salary lol. No matter how much he loves us.

Reports saying the transfer budget is 0. :)

Lets hope we reach the ucl finals next year as well, so we can once again have this kind of money.

That's what 50,60 mil more than it was last year. Making progress, I guess
Nah, last year it was also zero. We pretty much sold Pinamonti and Gregorio and with that money we will buy Asllani and Bellanova and we payed for the Lukaku loan.

Don't have one.

Yeah, I was joking with regard to that dreaded 50 mil sale we apparently had to make last summer. Either way, we had more than solid mercato last year with zero budget, so I don't see a reason why we couldn't have it this year as well.

At the end of the day, as long as zhang is here, zero budget is what will be the norm whether we like it or not.

with oaktree in our side next year (y) 💪

Oaktree owns Quicksilver surfing brand haha.... would be funny if that become our shirt sponsor.

I don't think peopel understand how companies like Oaktree + their owner Brookfield Corp work. They don't want something that loses 50m a season even when it got to the champions league final. It wants to make a large profit on its investment which is impossible currently for us with our TV revenue + not owning a stadium.

While we could sell 1/4th of our starters every season at a certain point we just can't remain competitive. I mean if we sold them like Porto/Brighton/Benfica do then maybe. Tho even if we sold Barrella we wouldn't get anywhere near what Chelsea paid for Enzo.
