I have to disagree he was quite good it s just that he did not get as much touches as he should since gags and vecin were incapable to plaz anz kind of decent forward pass.

To many times he was calling for the ball but vecino and especially gags decided to pass it backwards instead of to Rafinha. Also when ever he got a decent bal he was foul pretty much straight away unless he got rid of the ball fast.

Anyways i dont like to say it but he needs Valero next to him he needs a player that is comfortable with the ball and with whom he can play 1, 2s!

On a positive note, he stood up to Benevento's tactic of kicking the crap out of him and had enough energy in the tank to play out 60 minutes. It's not as if he was lazy, either. You could see him pressing the defensive line, and tracking back when he had to.

I expect him to truly shine with Icardi and Karamoh. It was painfully obvious that his effort and playmaking attempts are all in vain when he doesn't have player(s) with actual off the ball movement in front of him. Him starting the match well knowing that he won't be in for the full 90 minutes and leaving Karamoh on the bench was a proper tactical blunder by Spalletti.
I'd like to see Candreva or Brozovic starting as a central AMF and then Rafinha subbing in on half time.

So he already has a muscular problem according to Spalletti...

Watched extended highlights.. did not do too badly but given the lack of support from the team.

you can't expect one man to change a bunch of pussies... Even though he tried by demanding the ball and was even trying to dictate to others when he was off the ball.

Rafinha was made redundant by close marking and savage tackles by that butcher Viola, who should have got his 2 yellow cards in the first half. I think his game was affected by those tackles, which is understandable as he has had two career threatening injuries in the last 3 years. But even then, whenever he gets the ball he tries to make a positive forward move ether trying to beat the marker or play one touch football. Unlike Gags and Vecino, who take a few touches too many only to pass the ball backwards.

Benevento did their homework, and we would be foolish not to assume the other teams that are facing us in the coming matchdays won't too. It's imperative for Spallo to build around him and to instruct the other midfielders in more aggro off the ball movement to help him out.
