# I am relieved that Vieri is out. We can now choose either Martins to burn Roma with his pace or we could even go for Recoba who has an excellent record against Roma.

# I have never liked using Davids on the left wing and I want to see Stankovic there. Cambiasso did well against Anderlecht so there is a significant possibilty that Davids doesn't even make the line-up.

# As highlighted earlier by Handoyo Roma look weak on their left flank, that is why I really want to see Van der Meyde starting on our right wing. I am convinced that he can give Candela or Cufre, whichever one is starting, a real run around.

# At left back we only have one option with Favalli being absent and that is to move one of our usual right backs, either Ze Maria or Zanetti to the left flank. That way we will look quite defensively secure.

# If I was Coach I would pick Burdisso for this game, although I am quite sure Mancini will go for Matrix.....

From channel4:

Del Neri: “Cassano has a slight fever, but he will be able to play. I expect creativity, talent and effort from him. He is a forward and must fulfil that role, continuing to play football with a smile.”

## Lets hope he won’t make it at the last moment then.:D

Why is Del Neri revealing some of their lineup?? Could Mancini use this?

“Both Daniele De Rossi and Matteo Ferrari will start,” revealed the former Chievo and Porto tactician. “The midfield needs good feet and De Rossi played well in that role for Italy. I don’t like all these rivalries for places in a team, as players need to have some solid ground to work on.”

I'm positive Cordoba will play LB.

One thing that is for sure is that we need a combatitive midfield who are ready to help the defence when Roma attack!

So i just wanna understand something here...You guys would take off Materazzi (even though he is so far our best defender) cuz there are no tall strikers.
So if we play against Dortmund for example, then Matrix and Miha must play because there is Koller but if we play against Liverpool with Baros and Cisse upfront then we rest him.

So Italy can rest Netsa when they meet England because all their strikers (Owen, Defore, Smith, Rooney) are short but play him when they meet Norway because they have Flo upfront.

Seriously I cant stop laughing.. You know, this is like one of the funniest things i expected to hear from you people. :dielaugh:

I agree with Sherif. Matrix has been so good so far When is he gonna receive the praise he deserves if he is hardly given any compliments after being our best central defender so far?? ;)

It´s not about his performances so far. It´s about his characteristics compared with our opponent. Montella, Totti and Cassano are all players who moves around a lot. And I think it goes without saying that Materazzi is a slow player, right? Hence, why Burdisso should theoretically be a better choice.

Is it funny to think tactically about a game?

According the news in turkish sports channel (a turkish friend of mine informs me) EMRE has a light injury on his right thigh after a challenge of an Anderlecht player. Mancini won't risk him, so he arrives today in Istanbul for the WC Qualifying games for Turkey.

I totally understand your point but it just sounds that cuz he's tall then we shouldnt use him. Anyway I still wont rest him because he is slow. There is experience, and if you think he will tackle the fast Totti and make a penalty, dont you think that Cordoba and Burdisso will tackle in a silly way too.

I am not convinced. We played against Fast players before and Matrix played super, why will he be bad now. All this just to play the Argentian whom i also rate as a good defender.? Burdisso's time will come, but not now, unless Mancio will play all 3 of them one shot which will be cool to see, really.

Oh , A tough unpredictable match for us because I rate Del Nieri very highley though he doesn't carry a magical stick but he can awaken up alot of roma's stars . let's say that I don't fear but Repect 'em .

I'll go with this lineup:

Toldo

Zemaria - Cordoba - Matrix - Zanetti

Cambiasso - Davids

Veron Stankovic

Adriano - Martins

It's very important guys to play with Cambiasso alongside Davids as we won't risk the possibility of loosing alot of balls deep in the midfield where their great #10 can cause alot of troubles with Aeroplanino and Cassano playing . We should have players that win alot of balls in midfield even on the expense of the on-form VDM (I love him) . If we play with this formation , I think we will score a goal or two and make things balanced in the midfield and defense . Also we will still be playing our fascinating one-touch passes , creativity with Veron playing Zidane's role or Nedved Role . Stankovic , Adriano and Martins do the damage with great crosses from both the Right and the Left by Il capitano and Ze maria .

Recoba , VDM and C.zanetti also shall make it after the half time according to the match circumstances But playing with Veron - Davids only is a major risk and will make us suffer in this game .

Serie A Preview: Roma-Inter by Goal.com
10/2/2004 10:17:00 AM

Inter travel to lowly Roma in a crunch match for both teams in order to get their seasons moving forward in Serie A.

BACKGROUND

Inter come off a fantastic away victory in Belgium where both Adriano and Martins were able to score. This season has been a complete difference from a couple of years ago where Cuper held a solid defence, but at the expense of an attacking side. Mancini has managed to transform Inter into an enjoyable team to watch with many classy individuals, but so far the defence has been the problem for the Nerazzuri in Serie A having conceded seven goals in the first four games.

Nothing currently can get worse than Roma’s defence. The Giallorossi have somehow managed to transform a defence from conceding just nineteen in thirty four goals last season into one that has conceded nine in the first four of this season. Not to mention conceding four in the week against Real Madrid, which now leaves their Champions League hopes in the balance.

It will be Del Neri’s first match in charge of the Giallorossi and even though he is not expected to perform miracles in his first match in charge, he will need to show that there is spirit and togetherness in the Roma side which can take them forward for the rest of this season

Despite the defensive frailties, both teams have been exciting to watch and have been scoring goals. This could well be another match for Roma where they concede more than they score, but the fans will be hoping fortunes will change in the defence and that they can get their first win since the opening day against Fiorentina. Inter themselves have only won one match in Serie A but you get the feeling that once the defence gets a bit tighter they can make a real challenge for the scudetto.

This weekend will be a vital match for Inter in the race to win Serie A. If they can beat Roma at the Olimpico they will once again catch up to both Milan and Juventus, but a slip up and they could find themselves even below Roma who are supposedly in crisis. Mancini will know that the real danger of Roma comes from their attack of Totti and Cassano so Inter will give themselves every chance of winning if they keep the two front men silent and starved of possession.

TEAM NEWS

Roma

Mido has recovered from an injury picked up in training but should be starting on the bench. Del Neri is expected to pick a 4-2-3-1 like formation that can involve the Totti, Cassano and Montella. Ferrari is expected to be back in the side, but Chivu and D’Agostino remain on the sidelines.

Inter

Favalli is a doubt while Emre, Kili and Mihaijlovic will be missing. Martins should start ahead of Vieri in attack to partner Adriano after his midweek performance. Burdisso is expected to start once more also.

PROBABLE LINE-UPS

Roma: (4-2-3-1) Pelizzoli; Panucci, Mexes, Ferrari, Cufre; Perrotta, Dacourt; Mancini, Totti, Cassano; Montella

Inter: (4-4-2) Toldo; J. Zanetti, Burdisso, Cordoba, Pasquale; Van Der Meyde, Veron, Davids, Stankovic; Martins, Adriano

PLAYERS TO WATCH

Francesco Totti: With all the praise heaped on to the captain it will be important that he shows Del Neri he has the heart and the power to guide Roma out of these troubled times.

Adriano: Once more if a team can stop Adriano, they have a good chance of stopping Inter’s goal threat. It is harsh on the likes of Obafemi Martins, Stankovic and Veron, but if Adriano is kept quiet Inter will not be as lethal. The only problem is what does it take to keep Adriano away from the danger zone?

There are people who like Matrix and people who hate him, that's for sure. I notoriously belong to the first group.

The problem is, some people can't just admit that he's been our best defender so far, and praise him as he deserves. It's just the same as with Ronaldo, some of you hate him because he's a "traitor", therefore even if he's the top striker in La Liga, they still say he's crap now.

No offence, but that's a bit childish. Like it or not, Matrix is performing just great at the moment. You just gotta find a way to accept the facts. ;)

1) I like Matrix but I have to agree. Only use him in good matchups, against big men who head well. Not with smaller men.

2) Why do poeple not want Ze Maria-Cordoba-Burdisso-JZ?

WHy include Matrix ? I do like Matrix tho.

Well in my opinion Recoba should start against Roma, besides not being as fast as Martins he has- Better shooting, passing range, reading of the game, etc. At the moment Recoba is a player of more genuine class, Martins so far is just a lightning fast prospect (and a damn good one at that). Martins should come on when Recoba and Adriano have torn the defence apart (they link up very well) and stretch the tired Roma defence out.

I also think Cambiasso should start in place of Davids after his wonderful display against Anderlect. I mean to be honest Davids has been disappointing, and even when in form he doesn't read the game terribly well, just makes up for it with a large amount of effort. The distribution of both Cambiasso (why did Real let him go, he would have solved their midfield problems) and Veron is excellent and would set up some nice counterattacks. Van der Meyde should play on his favoured right wing position, as has already been said Roma are not exactly blessed at left back (sort of like us, although Zanetti and Ze Maria at fullbacks would be brilliant). Stankovic will hopefully play on his usual left side as well

I think Burdisso should maybe get thrown in at the deep end, I mean he will have to play in big games sooner or later, he may as well start now, and as we are playing a team who keep the ball on the floor (which he is very good at defending), we may as well use him in combination with the pace of Cordoba to get us out of trouble.
