LUKAKU NEVER REALLY LEFT
- Yesterday, medical and contract signing (one year at €8.5M plus bonuses).
- Today, he will return to Sardinia to continue final days of vacation. Big Rom will return at the end of next week when Inter will begin training camp.
- From dawn to dinner time, a swarm of crowds were always there, with some fans who spent the night in their car to wait for him: “Romelu, bring us the Scudetto.”
- Police and sirens to clear the human wall.
Milan - He landed yesterday morning shortly after 6:30 am at the airport reserved for private flights. He arrived from Olbia where today, with the same charter, he will return to continue his vacation and personalized training. It only took a few hours, however, to understand that Inter’s love for Romelu Lukaku is still massive. As if the last eleven months that the Belgian spent, by choice, at Chelsea had been canceled with a swipe of a sponge. There were even those who spent the night in their own vehicle at the Milanese airport: a couple of fans in the number 9 shirt waited almost twelve hours for him and finally managed to see Lukaku when he came out of the airport and got into a white Maserati driven by a Roc Station man who had traveled with the striker together with other collaborators. “I’m very happy to be here,” he told reporters after posing with his Inter scarf for a few shots.
Chants and police - At Humanitas, Inter fans gave him huge applause when he exited the car wearing mask. Then he boarded the same Maserati, escorted by security, to have lunch and then to CONI. Most of the people knew where he was going and so they went straight there. At the second stop, there was already Asllani and Esposito, who was loaned to Anderlecht, but the attention was of course all for Big Rom who arrived at 1:30 pm. After check-up with Dr. Meazza, he looked out the window to greet everyone like the Pope. With one hand touching his heart, one could see that he was moved. “Romelu Lukaku, Romelu Lukaku,” they chanted his name. And then sang: “Bring us the Scudetto, Lukaku, bring us the Scudetto.” He smiled and people greeted him to jump to the chant of “che non salta rossonero è…” After 3:00 pm, he left CONI but because of so many fans outside it was necessary to call the police which then escorted the player and his entourage out of the area. At HQ, there was signature on contract until June 30, 2023 but of course there were also many hugs with President Steven Zhang and all of the management team. There was also contact with Simone Inzaghi who is on vacation with family. Before 8:00 pm, he left to have dinner with friends and the men of his entourage. Today, he will leave for Sardinia.
Number 90 - When will he come back? There is no fixed day but the communication told by Inter is “by the end of next week.” Considering that his teammates will start next Wednesday, Lukaku will not be too far behind. Yesterday, he seemed to be in fair condition despite inactivity due to an ankle injury. It is no mystery that Lukaku would have wanted the number 9, but that belongs to Edin Dzeko and the club did not made any effort to take it away from the Bosnian. Things would have been different if the Bosnian decided to give it away or if he was sold. Big Rom never asked for it. He evaluated several options and, narrowing down between the choices of 90 and 14, chose the first option.
